Picture books are not acceptable for SRC points, and Amphigorey has "Childrens>Picture Books" as a main page genre. You'll need to choose something else for 15.10.

For 30.9, book A, you used the kindle page numbering. Since there is no mass market paperback and the paperback won't be out until February 2015, I looked at the hardback edition, which, fortunately, also has 560 pages. So, you're fine on this one, but please keep the ebook rules in mind when posting.

task 25.7, option A requires that you state that the vacation site is new to you and that the book is set during your lifetime.

For option C, you need to explain why you can't go to this place. Without reading the book, I don't get enough info from your words "Nuevo Rio" to be able to tell if it's a fantasy location and the book description doesn't tell me.

Please repost with the necessary information

I re-read the rules before posting in the completed tasks thread, and I got the sense that the children's picture book is more a judgment call than an automatic out based on GoodReads genres. This is one of those instances that the book is very mis-classified, as it's more of a graphic novel and definitely not for children. As further proof, I got it from the library, and it was shelved in adult graphic novels.

4. Picture books, “easy reader,” and “transition” books designed for beginning readers may not be claimed for points in the SRC. For the purposes of the SRC, the definition of each is as follows:

Picture books - In its broadest definition, a picture book is a book in which the illustrations play a significant role in telling the story. There are typically illustrations on every page or every other page, and the plot and text are simple. [definitely not the case with Amphigorey]

I'm not sure if making this case will get me points back, but if not, maybe the rules could be clarified and updated to say that any books with the genre "Childrens -> Picture Books" on the main page are not allowed in the challenge?

Thanks!!

It's not just children's picture books - any books that are heavily pictures, rather than text, are not usable. The fact that it is denominated as a picture book is an indication of that. Please keep in mind that the moderators cannot read every book that is claimed and make an individual assessment of it.

Good idea to make the rules clear that it's an automatic out if it has picture book (childrens or not) listed as a main page genre.

You know, when I started posting stuff on GR, I always figured the one that showed up when I did the search would be the one I had on my shelf - hah! I know it's supposedly the most popular edition, but I'm not convinced of that, either.

Melanie & Sandy, the book Melanie chose for option A actually fits both criteria, because Washington is in the title and it is set in New York. I noticed this because I have that book slotted for this task.

Task 15.1 requires that the book by a female author be written in your mother's lifetime and the book by a male author in your father's lifetime. The Agatha Christie book would work for A - female author in your mother's lifetime, but the Hemingway book wouldn't work for your father.
