jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Hopefully a more creative name will come to me later, but for now I just want to start doing my homework.

You should use proper English and quit adding the letter U to words, like in favourite. My computer doesn't like them and underlines them all in red :)

1. What is your name? (First, Last, Middle, Nickname – you only need to pick one if you prefer. Feel free to list them all.) donna/jaxnsmom

2. What is your favourite sport? I'm too lazy to participate in any (and in no physical condition), but I like watching baseball. Does fetch where the dog actually does the fetching count?
Ok, I'm going with fetch, the only problem is that for most of my dogs I've usually been the one doing the fetching :)

3. What colour are your eyes? blue

4. Have you ever had a broken bone? don't think so - I know that should be something I know the answer to, but it was my foot and I can't remember if the bone was broken or cracked. If it comes down to it, I'll say no According to Sam's first aid instructor cracked bones count, so I'm saying yes

5. What is your favourite movie? I'll go with Bell Book and Candle, with James Stewart and Kim Novak. I can watch it whenever it comes on.

6. What is your favourite book? Really??? I can't even narrow it down to a genre! His Majesty's Dragon since that's where I fell in love with Temeraire.

7. Pick a number between 1 and 10. 8

8. What is your favourite holiday? I'm sure it's not really a holiday, but I'm going to say Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. I always asked if that included my four-legged kids, but for some reason my employers never agreed with my thinking. ☺

9. What is your relationship status? Single (why do they distinguish between single and divorced on forms - If you're divorced then you're single, unless you marry again, and then your status is married - yes, it's one of those things that annoys the hell out of me)

10. Are you right or left handed? right

11. What is your birthday month? August

12. Do you have a pet? What is it? Jingo, my dog.

13. What is your favourite type of food? Indian, but Thai is a close second

14. What is something you use daily? I'd like to say my brain, but I'm pretty sure that's not true.

15. What is your shoe size? (No halves; roll up to next number) 8

16. What is your favourite Ice cream flavour? In cold weather I prefer chocolate flavors, while in warm weather I prefer fruit flavors. I'll go Mango Gelati with Vanilla Custard.

17. What is your country of birth? US

18. What is your favourite season? Fall when the leaves turn and the temperature should be perfect for me.

19. What is your current desk top picture? Since I lost my job, it's bland, but my favorite picture was of my brother holding my younger niece in a bag. He's standing in front of a sign that says "I went shopping at the bad girl store".

20. What is your preferred mode of transport? The TARDIS

21. How many candles were on your last birthday cake? none, I haven't celebrated my birthday in years. I usually have to count forward from my year of birth to figure out how old I am :)

22. Have you been in an accident? yes, several, but only a couple were my fault

23. Do you prefer a shower or bath? shower

24. Name a place you’d like to visit. Alaska, or Ireland because I love stout and haven't been able to like scotch or it would be Scotland. I'll go with Alaska.

25. What is your favourite genre? Ok, I'll say fantasy in the example of Patrick Rothfuss, Robert Jordan, Jim Butcher, Neil Gaiman, Naomi Novik, Michael J. Sullivan, and too many others to list.

26. Do you prefer a car or truck? a car with room for dogs, so some type of wagon.

27. Do you have a tattoo? yes, 2. I got the first one for my 40th birthday - a crescent moon and stars on the back of my right should. My second one I got for my 50th b'day - paw prints on my left calf. I plan on getting another for my 60th - a ribbon, half red for heart disease and half green for lymphoma in memoriam for my mom.

28. Do you prefer Classic or Contemporary? I'll say classic since I like most HF better than contemporary, at least for the time being.

29. What is your favourite flower? Outdoors I love peonies.

30. Have you been to Europe? Where? (If you live in Europe, specify country other than your own.) no

31. If you could meet anyone famous, infamous, notorious, who would it be? Jean-Luc Picard or his alter ego, Patrick Stewart

32. What is the feature on you are most often complimented? eyes

33. Would you rather encounter a ghost, an alien, or neither? An alien (not ALF or E.T.)

34. What is your favourite animal (other than domestic pets)? Hmmm, well there is that attachment I had to flying monkeys :)

35. What type of holiday do you prefer? (Beach, Mountain, Camping, exotic, etc) Somewhere I've never been with historical, mythical, and quirky spots that are off the beaten track (When I lived in Winchester one of the most interesting things I discovered was a brick flat-top pyramid. In it was a man buried with his gun and his dog)

36. If you had to lose one of the 5 senses, which would you prefer it to be? Smell, since there are so many stinky things

37. Who is your favourite author? "Eenie, Meenie, Miney, Mo - and the pick is Bernard Cornwell.

38. Do you prefer tea, coffee, or water? I don't like coffee, I've been trying to drink a ton of water this year, but I'll say tea when it's brewed properly.

39. What is your birthstone using the US 2016 listing: peridot

40. What is your favourite fruit? currently mangoes, but since I have trouble picking a ripe one I should probably go with white peaches

41. Issue you are passionate about (abortion, euthanasia, animal rights… etc) women's rights, especially in countries where atrocities are carried out against them.

42. Would you rather explore in space or undersea? space, the final frontier

43. To what time period would you like to time travel? It used to be the old West (while reading all of Louis L'Amour' books, but really, life without indoor bathrooms and a/c, I know I wouldn't have done well. (I'd probably be a saloon girl) After that there were a lot of other book related places where I dreamed of living, but I knew I wouldn't have the fun/dramatic/meaningful lives the characters had, so I had to only live in those places through the books.

I would like to live in the mid 24th century, possibly traveling aboard the Enterprise, but Earth would need to be as characterized in ST:TNG. Or, if I was traveling with Doctor Who, then I could live in many different times. Ok, wherever the Doctor takes me.

44. Do you prefer shoes or barefeet? barefoot

45. Do you prefer green or black olives? Neither? Yuk, neither

46. What is your Zodiac sign? Leo

47. What is your height in inches? 66

48. Who is someone you miss? my mom (would it be really bad if Callie was a really close second?)

49. What is your hobby? reading, silly question. Also growing herbs, and now apparently, drinking with my book characters :)

50. What language would you like to learn to speak? Russian

If you like....

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments Don't overthink "favourite", just name someone/something you like. You'll need answers for all those. If you can't decide, throw a few names/items into the fruit machine and let it decide for you.

And yes, they are all trick questions. You've got to know that. :)

Star Trek fan. Yay!! I just yearn for the world of STTNG. Even the music sometimes makes me cry (I'm soft - I know)

Lol, than I have something else which might made make you cry... ;)

My daughter's name is: Annika (guess where we got that idea)!
(from Voyager, not Enterprise)

message 8: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I had to look up TARDIS but I love it! A time machine would be awesome!

message 9: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Have you never heard of the tardis before Tasha?

We were hoping j'mom for a mod trip to iceland but you've gone and chosen Alaska/Ireland/Scotland for where you'd like to visit. Lol.

That's really cool too Elsbeth. Annika is something else! I never watched Voyager on TV, but we recently bought the box sets and are about two thirds through... so no spoilers!! We identified a lack of Voyager as a huge gap in our general education.

Lol, yes I agree: you just HAVE to see Voyager! We also have all the dvd's and are now borrowing the dvd's of TNG from friends of us (and they borrow Voyager from us, to watch with their children).
Fun fact: my first encounter with Star Trek TNG was on the German television (so they were talking German!). The first time for me to hear the crew with their original voices was very weird - they didn't sound like they did in German ;)!

message 12: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I've heard of time machines but not the specific one Tardis. I'm probably one of the few people that haven't seen Dr. Who! haha

That is soooo funny!! We speak German at home, so nearly ALWAYS watch Star Trek in German (along with almost everything else) unless we have guests. I find it so weird hearing the original voices too.... it's as if the personalities have shifted somehow. Although Patrick Stewart's voice is definitely better when it's the original.

By the way. Apologies Jaxnsmom for hijacking your thread... you'd be within your rights to scrap this one and start another (lol).

I know there's a twist, but I've been up for over 20 hours and my mind isn't listening to me.

You must correct this oversight. The earlier Doctors will be outdated, but I'm not sure where you should start.

message 17: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I enjoyed Voyager too. I can't imagine hearing the characters in another language, that would be so weird, especially Patrick Stewart.

I think you are probably right. It's so hard for me to sit down and watch tv though!!

Maybe I want to go back in time and talk to Chekov :)

message 21: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Wouldn't you have to travel to the future to talk to Chekov?

message 22: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

message 23: by Janice, Moderator (new)

message 24: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Cherie wrote: "Wouldn't you have to travel to the future to talk to Chekov?"

It would be back to the past from STNG to original ST :)

message 26: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments It's interesting - when I decided classic or contemporary I was thinking of colours, never mind being such a HistFic gourmand!

Deborah wrote: "It's interesting - when I decided classic or contemporary I was thinking of colours, never mind being such a HistFic gourmand!"

Ha, I was thinking of conemporary conveniences like indoor plumbing or toilet paper. Historical fiction was listed as my favorite genre though. Funny how we all had a different take on some of the questions.

message 28: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 26, 2016 08:37PM) (new)

Great hobbies, Jaxnsmom! I loved reading the Trekkie conversation here. Cannot imagine Captain Picard saying "Engage" in a different language. Just wouldn't seem right.

message 29: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Yeah the reason I didn't want to go far back in time was all based on the clothing. All seems to scratchy or too much of or too stiff to go back to cowboy days too dirty. Similar to how you don't want to give up modern conveniences.

I did ask Janice what it referred to since I was overthinking it. I was originally thinking style from watching too much HGTV for a while. Yikes, conveniences would be a no brainer - outhouse vs indoor plumbing, mopping face with a cloth every five minutes vs a/c...☺

message 31: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I had to change my favorite food to Indian. Thai came to mind first because I had some pad thai and drunken noodles with beef on Friday. And although I love thai, I could eat Indian every day and never tire of it. I could drink the sauce from chicken tikka masala by itself :) Samosas, naan, biryani, aloo ghobi, dhal - I love it!

Focusing on a "style" makes total sense, especially for those of us who watch HGTV. Also, there are classic vs contemporary music stations or book genres. That was my other thought. Lots of ways to interpret it. :-)

message 33: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Oh. I thought it was classic or contemporary fiction

message 34: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I didn't think of books at first because I think I'm the middle of those two. I don't think of the classics as my favorite, but I'm guessing it's meant as a much wider range. And I don't know if it's more when it takes place or when it was written. I assume I should flip a coin :)

message 35: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments OK, in the last half hour I have seen the Strongbow commercial with Patrick Stewart at least seven times. It's an omen that he should be part of my answer to #31 (person to meet).

message 36: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Oh jaxnsmom <3
My doggies growing up (specifically, Dusty, a golden/terrier mix we had him for 10 years), were a close second for me as well :)

Alright - you know you can't say something like that without telling the story.

message 39: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments It is funny, I cannot think of Star Trek (any of the generations) anywhere but in the future. For me, that is where they are.

I understand the TVshow genre

message 40: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Stupid ap. I didn't push the post button...

and the generation of Star Trek shows were created in the past, but they live in our future. That is why I think Jmom has to go to the future to talk to Chekov. I would like to talk to Data.

On the alien front, (not ALF or E. T.), I would like to meet Deja Thoris from Barsoom. I just can't accept ghosts.

message 41: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, and I want to hear the PS story too!

message 42: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments I knew that'd grab your attention! ;)

OK - so my Grannie (Ruth) was an actor and she ran a drama group in Elsecar (pron. Elsicar) where they lived, which my Dad joined and so did PS. My Mum was Ruth's daughter. So, aged around 17, they all went on a field trip and Dad and PS had to share a bed.

message 43: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments You know according to my first aid instructor a cracked bone still counts as a break so technically you could say yes to number 4.

Apparantly its only us uneducated heathens that think a crack or a fracture is not a broken bone...

message 44: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments And if it included tears I could definitely say yes - rotator cuff, meniscus, and acl. In honor of your first aid instructor I'll change my answer to yes :)

message 45: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Deborah - I love the Patrick Stewart story. Does your dad go around telling people that he slept with PS? That would be too funny if he did at scifi conventions :~p

message 46: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments My Dad goes round telling a lot of stories and that is one of them. Fortunately, he's not a sci-fi fan ;) PS would probably sue! hahahaha
