Charmaine Cameron | 3 comments I read this novel when I was a child in the late 1970s. I have an odd recollection it was called The Flight Of The Flynns, or Fynns... or something similar but cannot be for sure. I am reasonably sure that the title of the novel contained the word Flynn, Flyn, Fyn, Finn..... and I vaguely recall that maybe the word Flyn??? was the last name or name of one of the characters in the novel. I can't be sure but it may have been set in the UK.... maybe the USA but have a feeling it was British. The novel is about a brother and sister... the brother is older of the two and they are on a journey somewhere, by themselves.... trying to get home or get to their family... they hide from some undesirable characters on the way and are on the road for a while. I must have been around 9 or 10 when I read the book, so it is obviously aimed at children of that age group. It was an adventure story with a happy ending, though I can't recall how it actually ended.

SparksofEmber | 957 comments Flight of the Doves by Walter Macken for the Goodreads link. To quote a reviewer " A 12-year-old boy, in an attempt to protect his gentle, innocent little sister from an abusive step-father, runs away with her. He is trying to get to a village with a name he doesn't know in a country that is not his own. His grandmother lives there and he has foggy memories of her from when he was young. The odds are against them. Not only does he not know the way, but his step father learns of a legacy left to the children (after they ran away) and is motivated to bring them home. The police are on the hunt, rewards bring other adventurers after the children. What really warms the book is how people step in to help the children, some knowingly and others in ignorance. The boy is no superhero and knows he will fail without the help of others."
