For this I selected Pines by Blake Crouch. I am glad I gave it a chance, I think I will even finish the series!

Hi Rachel, Cinder is definitely YA but don't let that put you off. It's not overly silly or overly angsty if that's what you mean by noticeably YA? I loved it (and the sequels) and would highly recommend them.
I've also read A Darker Shade of Magic (and A Gathering of Shadows) this year and loved them both. I'm currently on the library waiting list for A Conjuring of Light and I am so looking forward to it.
I wasn't planning this, but I needed an audiobook for a road trip with my husband. I grabbed We Are Legion (We Are Bob)I *adore* it so far, and now I'm a little unhappy that I need to wait for another car trip so we can listen together!
I'm going to read Warriors: Into the Wild by Erin Hunter. My niece recommended the series to me, I think it's YA about wild cat colony... anyone read them before?
All I want to know is what makes a series exactly since 2 is sequel and 3 is trilogy so 4 or more? Am I way over thinking this?

Those are all series. Anything more than 1 book is a series.

I chose Missing, Presumed for this prompt accidentally -- coincidentally it's the first in the DS Manon series -- I've read the second book in the series now too, and it actually was really good. I enjoyed both murder mysteries thoroughly.
I've read Six of Crows, The Gathering Dark, The Raven Boys, Fireborn, The Girl with All the Gifts (even tho that one only has the framework short story and two novels), finally read Frostflower And Thorn as never-read-before first-book-in-a-series this year...
I don't like reading a long series of books, so I'm going for a duology classic: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Some other recommendations I'd offer up that I don't think I've seen mentioned yet:
- Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella (could also fit "author who uses a pseudonym")
- The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, which is an amazing YA reimagining of A Thousand and One Nights
- Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton (pretty stellar/unique fantasy world-building)
- The book I read for this challenge: The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
- A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Grey
- The Crown's Game by Evelyn Skye (which I like to describe as the superior YA version of The Night Circus)
