The first book in a series you haven't read before

I liked those books a lot!

Yes!!! I LOVED that series!!! one of my favorites - I wish she would write something else in that vein and soon.

Oh good I feel better knowing someone has loved them!

I hate to break it to you, but this is actually the second book in the series. Don't ask me why, but the first book in "The Dark Is Rising" is Over Sea, Under Stone. The good news, I guess, is that the first two books are markedly different from each other in tone and style, so perhaps you will like the first book better.

A Game of Thrones
The Templar Legacy
The Beekeeper's Apprentice
Decisions, decisions...

Pantomime by Laura Lam

I highly recommend Alison Goodman's Dark Days Club – it's a lot of fun.

It's a great series. I've read the first two and am planning on reading the third book for a book set during a holiday other than Christmas.

I read Storm Front in 4 days. I read Jim Butcher's Codex Alera finishing it in early 2016. My son tells me the books keep getting better as you get farther into the series.

I love this series! It's amazing!

I am re-reading that series for the first time since the late 70's!!
I discovered it by accident when I was in middle school and loved it. A couple of years ago, I bought the entire series in omnibus form and it has held up so well!!

A fun new space opera by a fantasy author. Great characters and adventure!

Oh I read that! It was just okay. It was pretty silly, really, but enjoyable enough. The second book was really bad, and I never read the rest.

I'm reading a book for book club and it doesn't seem to fit another prompt but when I added it, it had that in parentheses. So can I use it for this prompt? I feel like it may be one of those standalone type series like a murder she wrote, Robert Langdon etc type as opposed to one that requires reading the others to finish the story so if that counts it would be better because I won't have to finish more books!
Tara wrote: "I've noticed that often when I put in a new book in Goodreads it'll come up in parentheses (boop boop #6) or whatever. Does this mean that it is part of a series? I only ask because it's happened w..."
yeah if GR says it's #1, I think it counts, even if you didn't know it was a series, or it's more of a "standalone" series.

My Brilliant Friend- The first book in a series you haven't read before
The Story of a New Name- A book by an author who uses a pseudonym
Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay- A book by an author from a county you've never visited (If you haven't been to Italy)
The Story of the Lost Child- audiobook, a book you bought on a trip, anything else you can think of!
Seriously, start this series. You won't regret it!

I read A Darker Shade of Magic and really liked it, but not yet sure if I am going to place it under this prompt or else 'a book with a red spine'.

I liked Cinder a lot, I recommend that entire series. I'm not sure what you mean by "noticeably YA" - the characters are in their late teens and early 20s for the most part, so in that sense yes it's noticeable, but I think this book has all-ages appeal. (Just for comparison: I really did NOT like A Darker Shade of Magic, I thought that was boring, and I disliked the characters. So I'm not sure how much my opinion is worth!)
