It's always fun to be able to slot the latest book from a favorite author or the book everyone is talking about into a challenge prompt. I like the idea of a newly published book as a prompt.

I used to be terrible about avoiding new releases until I started this challenge. I think I read at least 9 or 10 books this year that were released this year. For next year I plan to read A Perilous Undertaking by Deanna Raybourn. It is book #2 in her Veronica Speedwell series. Love her books!
I'm holding out a sliver of hope that Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone (book #9 in the Outlander series) is released by year's end, but it's a long shot!
This one will be easy, there are quite a few books I'm looking forward to in 2017.
Here are a few lists (A lot of repetition here, of course. I'm surprised there aren't more lists for 2017, I was looking for The Millions' Most Anticipated for 2017 and can't find it - I guess some more of them will come out in a few weeks):
YA Books of 2017
Most Anticipated Books of 2017
Can't Wait Books of 2017
Can't Wait Sci-Fi/Fantasy of 2017

I always end up reading a JD Robb "In Death" novel for this one. This is usually not that hard. I don't usually plan it.
I loved Everything I Never Told You and can't wait for Celeste Ng's new book Little Fires Everywhere
I plan to read The Shadow Land for this. I've already pre-ordered this!!! Her book The Historian is one of my top-5 favorite books of all time, so I can't wait for another from her!

I didn't like it as much as the Historian, but it's hard to reach that level for me!

Thanks for the list! I love how easy to read Jenny Han books are and now I am excited to read Always and Forever, Lara Jean however, I will have to read the first two books in the series before this challenge.
I've been reading the Max Tudor series by G.M. Malliet and the next one,Devil's Breath, comes out in April.
I've got Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk slotted for this one. I've got an ARC of it I can read, which is fun. I'm trying to cut down on and acquisition of books until I read a bunch of the ones I already own.
Yay! I finally found a book I am super excited for in 2017: Eliza and Her Monsters. There are several books I'm looking forward to in 2017, but I'm actually excited about this one! Because (a) it is in a mixed story/graphic format that sounds interesting, and mostly (b) I loved Zappia's first book.
Big fan of V.E. Schwab, so I'm totally looking forward to the third and final book in her Shades of Magic series, A Conjuring of Light :DUPDATE: This book was AMAAAAAZING. If you have any interest in reading the series, please do - you will not regret it!
Breath of Fire by Amanda Bouchet was just published and released yesterday (January 3). I'm reading the first, A Promise of Fire, for the advanced category of a bestseller from 2016 (a little loosely translated, as it was listed on NPR's best of 2016 page while not necessarily making it onto the common bestseller lists). There is a third book coming out in the fall, as well, which I may slot in for the mythology category, although I really want to read American Gods and Anansi Boys, too. They work for multiple categories, including both the book based on mythology and book with a mythological creature (Cerberus pops up in the first chapter, plus there are dragons and furies and sirens and GUH it's so good), the first could be dropped into the first book of a series you've never read before, they're paranormal romance, technically, so if you don't normally read that genre they could be loosely translated as a bestseller because of the NPR list (well, the first could, dunno about the second).
The Guardian has published a list of fiction (and nonfiction) to look out for this year:With hotly tipped new work from major names including Arundhati Roy and Paul Auster, 2017 looks set to be a strong year for novels

Prepare for a flood of books on the new populism, Sayeeda Warsi’s thoughts on British Muslims and a lavish biography of artist-poet David Jones

I've looking forward to If We Were Villains, which is a debut novel by M.L. Rio. I'm also still debating whether to read Assassin's Fate by Robin Hobb as soon as it comes out or whether to wait for the paperback...
I'd really like to recommend the book Rotherweird by Andrew Caldecott which comes out this spring/summer. I've had the privilege to read a proof copy of that book and I just loved it. It's a sort of fantasy book. Set today in England but in the town Rotherweird which is a secluded place with no real contact with the world outside. They are forbidden to record and research history. We get to know the town and it's mysteries through two "outsiders" who for different reasons comes to the town. I am in no way affiliated with this author but I really loved the book. I already know I have to buy it when it comes out (it has really nice illustrations) and will buy the follow up books as well.
Getting ready to start The Sleepwalker by Chris Bohjalian that was published this week. I love all of his books and got to hear him speak last night, so I'm especially excited to start this one!
There's only one book a year that I'm guaranteed to read, Anne Bishop's new book from her Others series. This year Etched in Bone
is due to be published in March, so that will be my choice for this prompt.
Maja wrote: "Would translate book in my language work for this one?"I would say yes, because that's really when the book becomes "available" for you.
I read Ali Land's Good Me, Bad Me yesterday. It was released on 12th January this year. I didn't expect the book to be as dark or as chilling as it was. The writing was done in such a way that it led you to another chapter and another. Maybe this is already planned, but if this was made into a movie, I bet it would be fantastic.
The only problem I had which is nothing to do with the book; I read A Little Life in October of last year and if I realised the depths in this book - I probably would have given myself a bit longer to recover from that before reading Good Me Bad Me.
Annie wrote: "Rich People Problems is suppose to come out this year. I loved the first two books!"I had no idea! Thanks for posting about this. I LOVED Crazy Rich Asians. That was "uproariously funny" as the book jackets might say. China Rich Girlfriend I was kind of "meh" about.
I have pre-ordered Garden of Lamentations, so will probably use it for this category, unless I can fit it into a tougher- to-fill slot.
9987 wrote: "Would it be too optimistic to say I'm going to read Doors of Stone by Pat Rothfuss for this one?"DON'T JINX IT. (I kid. Kinda.) I'm not getting my hopes up, though I dearly want to read this one, too.
What are people's thoughts on books released last year in other countries but this year in your country? Heartless is released next month here in the UK but I know it came out last year in other countries

Seems like that would work for published in 2017 for you then.

I agree! At some point I was wondering what was the plot of Crazy Rich Girlfriend... But I'm still gonna read the third one, just in case :P

I am hoping to read a debut author for 2017 for this one so that I can count this book on two challenges (also doing Book Riot's Read Harder challenge.) I Google debut author but all the lists are for YA authors. I read lots of YA so I would like to find some adult debuts. Any ideas?

Check out The Millions list of most anticipated books for 2017. I'm pretty sure there are a few debut authors included.
Nadine wrote: "Check out The Millions list of most anticipated books for 2017. I'm pretty sure there are a few debut authors included."Thanks! The Millions list provided one I may try: What We Lose but it doesn't come out until July..
