Karen (librarykatz) | 262 comments Looking forward to this challenge. I'm also glad to see that some months I'll only have to tackle one book since I've read the other selection. As for American Gods and Anansi Boys...looks like a reread is in my future. Or, if narrated by the author, then a total fangirl listening time!

Thanks for compiling the info!

message 152: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 693 comments there are only two for me as well!

message 153: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I'm going to do a few rereads. I still haven't read Ancillary Mercy so I think I'll join Justice (read #3) and Sword. Blackout will also be a reread. I'm also tempted by Doomsday Book and Do Androids Dream.

I'm going to be reading The Name of the Wind in June since I haven't read that.

message 154: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 693 comments I am going to join in on Blackout and The girl with all the gifts

I might join you. It did get 13 votes, and maybe some of the people who will read The Wise Man's Fear in July will want to reread The Name of the Wind before then.

(one of us. one of us.)

(PS I can't wait to see what you think of these books)

message 158: by David (new)

David Holmes | 481 comments Dammit, I guess I'll have to as well.

Nearly all of my real-life friends and family who read those books seem to think they're some of the best fantasy ever written. It's those same people who tell me to wait before starting :|

message 159: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments We can always have the pleasure of a reread when the next comes out :)

message 160: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
At the very least, you'll be ready for Lin Manuel Miranda's adaptation! And hopefully what should be a very exciting conclusion to the chronicle, releasing some point before the heat death of the universe!

HA! :)

message 162: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2791 comments thanks for the list!

Already read 11 of them, but I will join the reread of The Blade Itself and first time read the Ancillary series plus The Girl with All the Gifts. Additional books will depend on budget.

message 163: by Devyn (new)

Devyn Jayse (DevynJayse) | 1 comments This is a great list. Can't wait to start! I have to catch up on the January books already XD

message 164: by Claire (new)

Claire | 48 comments This is brilliant! As per usual I am behind however I have read February's books already so I will attempt to read January's books now and then I'll be in sync with everyone in March! Phew

message 166: by Edwin (new)

Edwin Priest | 718 comments Is anybody else reading, or planning to read, Seveneves this month?

message 167: by Monica (new)

Monica (monicae) | 511 comments Edwin wrote: "Is anybody else reading, or planning to read, Seveneves this month?"

I am Edwin, but because it is such a long book, not sure when I will be able to finish. It's too early in the year to get bogged down in an 800 page book with reading time being at a premium. Sun is almost back out here in Cali so I can play outside again ;-)

I am Edwin, but I want to finish Gardens of the Moon first. I hope to finish it this weekend...almost there!

message 169: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Never again would I be so foolish.

;)

Edwin Priest | 718 comments Melanie wrote: "I am Edwin, but I want to finish Gardens of the Moon first. I hope to finish it this weekend...almost there!"

Woah, isn't that like the first of a 10 billion page series?

I finished Seveneves this morning and am busting with stuff to talk about, and not all necessarily good (Sarah). I will wait a little bit before starting to post.

message 171: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Edwin, did you do print or audio?

message 172: by Edwin (last edited Feb 10, 2017 05:45PM) (new)

Edwin Priest | 718 comments Sarah Anne wrote: "Edwin, did you do print or audio?"

Print. I don't think I could have survived the audio version.

message 173: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments It was atrocious. She was a terrible narrator and all of the monologues/info dumps drove me insane.

message 174: by Claire (new)

Claire | 48 comments I tore through the first two parts of Seveneves but that final part just seemed so wrong, like it had been tacked on the end. I was gutted that we didn't follow the survivors in space further so I coped with it by pretending part three was a brand new book that I just happened to know some backstory to.

message 175: by David (new)

David Holmes | 481 comments That seems to be a common sentiment. I think I might be the only person I know of who really liked the last part.

message 176: by Claire (new)

Claire | 48 comments David wrote: "That seems to be a common sentiment. I think I might be the only person I know of who really liked the last part."

I did like it - provided I didn't think about what came before lol. I also wanted to know more about what would happen next so that's always a book win I guess.

message 179: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenthebest) | 523 comments I'll join The War of the Worlds discussion at some point this weekend.

message 180: by Claire (new)

Claire | 48 comments Still waiting for Gardens of the Moon to come through at the Library, hopefully soon. I've read Ancillary Justice - really enjoyed that so I'll see if I can my paws on Doomsday Book. Not that I don't have a huge TBR pile already lol!

message 181: by Roberta (new)

Roberta (tawnyreader) | 89 comments Can I join the discussion on Doomsday Book when I eventually finish rereading this 448 page book? I can't possibly finish by March 15, maybe not even by the 30th. By then will the group be through with the discussion?

message 182: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments You can comment anytime but in this case the conversation will start on March 15th and be going at least until April 15th.

I hope you enjoy it, it's a fun book.

message 183: by Roberta (new)

Roberta (tawnyreader) | 89 comments I've read it before, years ago. I loved it then and have read many other Willis novels and stories. I'm looking forward to reading it again.

message 184: by Sarah (last edited Mar 14, 2017 11:17AM) (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I'm sorry these are late guys! I completely forgot.

Ancillary Justice
"Ancillary Justice" First Impressions *No Spoilers*
"Ancillary Justice" Final Thoughts *Spoilers*
"Ancillary Justice" To Gender or Not to Gender *Potential Spoilers*

Doomsday Book
"Doomsday Book" Roll Call and Initial Impressions *No Spoilers*
"Doomsday Book" Part One Discussion *Spoilers*
"Doomsday Book" Part Two Discussion *Spoilers*
"Doomsday Book" Finished Reading *Spoilers*
"Doomsday Book" Infectious Diseases *Spoilers*

There are many, many more threads for Doomsday Book, including a Finished Reading. I'm not sure what the difference is between Finished Reading and Final Thoughts but I used the one that appeared to be best.

Have fun everyone!

message 185: by Michael (new)

Michael | 1303 comments Thanks, Sarah!

I'm thinking the Doomsday Book "Finished Reading" thread might be better; it has 65 comments instead of 5, and we used it on our reread 3 years ago...

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Just my two cents. :)

message 186: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I was going to do that for the same reason but he requested spoiler tags. Do you think it would be okay to do that and not use the tags?

message 187: by Chris (new)

Chris | 1130 comments Sarah Anne wrote: "I was going to do that for the same reason but he requested spoiler tags. Do you think it would be okay to do that and not use the tags?"

Yes, I think that's fine. It's our thread now! :)

Sarah | 3915 comments Chris wrote: "Yes, I think that's fine. It's our thread now! :) ..."

Rebellion!!! Okay, I changed it. Thanks guys.

message 189: by David (new)

David Holmes | 481 comments So I finished Doomsday Book and I'm happy to see Blackout coming later.

Should I plan on reading To Say Nothing of the Dog before Blackout?

Should I plan on finding time to read All Clear after Blackout?

Does it not matter?

message 190: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I think I read Doomsday, Blackout, and then Dog and it really doesn't seem to matter.

I haven't read All Clear yet so I'm doing Blackout again and then All Clear. Edwin and I will be reading All Clear immediately after Blackout.

I wish we could get All Clear on the shelf.

message 191: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments If it helps, Dog is light and fun while Blackout has less humor. I've given all of them five stars, which is very out of character :)

message 192: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I'm planning on reading all four very soon, so I agree we should get All Clear on the shelf!

message 193: by Edwin (last edited Apr 01, 2017 03:59AM) (new)

Edwin Priest | 718 comments Sarah Anne wrote: "Edwin and I will be reading All Clear immediately after Blackout."

Yup, both are loaded up and my Kindle and I are patiently waiting for June.

I agree with Sarah about To Say Nothing of the Dog. I read it before Doomsday. It does feel different, lighter and funnier. Although they are set in the same future Oxford with the Net and stuff, they are otherwise unrelated and don't seem to need to be read in sequence. Blackout/All Clear is different I understand, basically one long novel split in two.

Oh, and if you do read Dog, try reading Three Men in a Boat beforehand. It is a blast and there are some little tie-ins in Dog that you will catch.

message 194: by Chris (new)

Chris | 1130 comments David wrote: "Should I plan on finding time to read All Clear after Blackout?"

Blackout and All Clear are one story chopped in half for publishing reasons.

message 195: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I'm doing a sci-fi sequel theme for June so it would be extremely convenient if All Clear won. It would be the right month and everything. I'll nominate it at least so we can try.

message 196: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Well there's plenty of time to campaign!

message 197: by Bill's (new)

Bill's Chaos (wburris) Is it acceptable for the "cleanup challenge" and "a new hope" to have books in common?

message 198: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Definitely. It's a 2 for 1 and that's always a good thing :)

message 199: by David (new)

David Holmes | 481 comments Thanks for the feedback. My to-read shelf is now three books longer. Not good :|
