Team C AKA Chattering Book Addicts Crushes The Competition
I don't think we necessarily need a list of books people are planning to read - we are already mentioning them here as we chat (and things will likely change by the toppler) and the chart shows what category we're down for - it sounds like extra work to me - we just report in once the book is read and there we'll have a list of what has been read then.
Is it correct that Tejas Janet is already reading a 5-point task for the second time on sheet 1 (Lose your job)?
I'm sure the list may have changed by the end of the toppler. But it's just there so people can see what we're reading and what the points are getting us. But I really don't mind =] The list can be done now and added to once the toppler begins or we can make the list when the toppler begins. Up to you guys Peggy and Marnie.
My apologies Peggy, ignore the one of Sheet 1 as I realised earlier I could put it straight on sheet 2 and it would get 5 points.
I filled out the book overview as far as I could. I hope I didn't make mistakes, and I'll add the other books when people report them here.
Sarah wrote: "Hi Helen. I'll put you down for 3 for now then and if you can do a 4th during the toppler just let us know. All those you have chosen are fine, but they will only get us 3 points from now on. If y..."
Peggy had a good idea - the book Armed and Outrageous is about a senior citizen - she is unemployed - could we use this one for that task.
You decide, I will read it and you put it in the category you need.
Peggy wrote: "I filled out the book overview as far as I could. I hope I didn't make mistakes, and I'll add the other books when people report them here."Peggy, for me, Agnes Grey should be under Graduation and The Golden Rose by Kathleen Bryan is under Lose Your Job. :)
Elsbeth wrote: "I can do the wedding thing The Emerald Prince. I just checked: they really get married."Forget this book - it is too short...
Helen wrote: "Peggy had a good idea - the book Armed and Outrageous is about a senior citizen - she is unemployed - could we use this one for that task. You decide, I will read it and you put it in the category you need. "
Helen that's perfect =] I'll pop you in unemployed and I'll let you know about the other 2 books shortly.
No worries Elsbeth. I've popped you in Childhood for under 13 and Get Remarried - a fresh start. Is this okay? And if you want another in the toppler just let me know okay =]
Dawn wrote: "Peggy wrote: "I filled out the book overview as far as I could. I hope I didn't make mistakes, and I'll add the other books when people report them here."Peggy, for me, Agnes Grey should be under..."
Oops! Will fix it now :)
Sarah wrote: "No worries Elsbeth. I've popped you in Childhood for under 13 and Get Remarried - a fresh start. Is this okay? And if you want another in the toppler just let me know okay =]"Okay, that's great!
Dawn wrote: "I think Chattering was a good choice for this team. We are by far the group posting the most!"Then we only have to crush the competition by being book addicts and we're fine!
Helen wrote: "Peggy had a good idea - the book Armed and Outrageous is about a senior citizen - she is unemployed - could we use this one for that task. "I'd double check that with J'mom if I were you. When I see the term "unemployed" I think of people of working age who are not in work, not people who have retired. Unemployed people also draw jobseekers allowance (or the equivalent) whereas retired people don't. We don't want it not to count after it's been read.
Dawn wrote: "I think Chattering was a good choice for this team. We are by far the group posting the most!"
I noticed that too! A bunch of chatterboxes we are!

Hmmm.. defo get it checked as now I think about it, I have a feeling it won't work for the task.
Hey everyone, just got home from work and checking in. Just to confirm I've noticed that I've now been added to a 5th category (out of 7 I can do) and all is good.
Lynn, have I out you down for 5 on the first sheet? I thought it was only 4. I can't check right now as on the tablet. I'll have to look later. But I swear it was 4 for the first sheet.
Hey, CBA Crushers ;)I want to tentatively sign up for additional toppler books...
First, it turns out a book I want to read for the Clue challenge could also work in one or more spots for the Life toppler, and I believe it's alright to count it for both if I've read and understood the rules properly.
The book is A Red Herring Without Mustard Though it's almost 400 pages, I believe it will be a speedy read. Could count for Childhood - 5 pts – read a book where main character is under 13 for at least 80% of the book (if we need someone to fill that spot on our 2nd page?) OR could count for Lose Your Job - 3 pts – read a book with a color in the title.
I'm also interested in reading Wishful Drinking (squeaks by minimum requirement at 176 pages!) which Roz is reading in round 1. So I read it for round 2. That would be for College - 3 pts – read a book with drinking in it, where it is a noticeable part. (Note I asked Jmom to make sure it was okay for a team member to read the same book for the same challenge. She said yes but cautions that if it was done for a 5 pt task, it would only count for 3 pts if the team didn't make it to a 2nd round, which is in accordance with the rules so makes sense.)
Also, The Greengage Summer is another short book (187 pages). This one could count for Fabulous Vacation - 3 pts – read a book that takes place at the beach or the mountains (at least 75% of the book).
Just want to get these penciled in. Next week I should know if I can commit for sure, but I've already put in library hold requests.
Dawn wrote: "I'm pretty sure Lynn means the one you added to the second sheet."Yup, that's what I meant :)
Dawn wrote: "I'm pretty sure Lynn means the one you added to the second sheet."Lmao, okay yes, I totally forgot I added the 2nd sheet last night, oops.
So yes Lynn, 5 ignore me I'm going a bit doo-laly.
That's great Tejas Janet. You can do all of those and get us additional points. All will be at 3 points yes =] So yep let me know when or during the toppler if you'd liek to squeeze those in =]
Okay, I'm going to upload the latest copy of the chart. Dawn, Lynn and June you each have 2 left. Marnie you have another and Annette you now have 5 (unless you state you want any more). Take your pick =]https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3Ap...
Angie I placed you into Lottery, all the 3 points are available and if you want the Get Married Slot - where a wedding takes place, let me know and I'll give it to you, I just took it as I wanted to fill in all the 5 points on both sheets.
And Helen if you could just check with Jmom the Unemployed book, to make sure please =]
My buy a home (5) book will be Pride and Prejudice - I can't believe I have never read it but that is about to change.Struggling a little bit with finding a wild animal book- right now The Last Unicorn is winning.
Sarah- will copy it to message 1
That will give me 4 on Sheet 2 which will be:Have a Baby - read a book a main character gives birth The Wife
Get a Pet - read a book about a dog Sister Pelagia and the White Bulldog
Go on a Fabulous Vacation - read a book that takes place in a foreign country you know little about Eye of the Red Tsar
Get a Divorce – read a romance Shades of Milk and Honey
Sarah if it's still available I would love the win the lottery (3) for my fifth book.i have a book that I would like to read that doesn't seem to fit the available categories.
I think I might be able to read one for 'buy a house'- with place of residence on cover - as well:
. It is about 200 pages and my version looks like the picture above. (for sheet 2)
I can do that for you Marnie =] Shall I pop you in there Elsbeth or shall we wait? That'll be 3 total? You happy with that/
Sarah wrote: "I can do that for you Marnie =] Shall I pop you in there Elsbeth or shall we wait? That'll be 3 total? You happy with that/"
Yes, please; 3 for me (lets make it bit more of a challenge!)!
Sarah wrote: "I think Jmom says that the event/task has to take up 80% of the story. So I'm not sure you can use it for the car one. I think your other book will either go in the Fresh Start for 5 points or some..."The only task that has the 80% requirement is Childhood, the 5 pointer where the main character has to be 13 for at least 80% of the book. Different tasks have different requirements, so be sure to check them.
Marnie wrote: "Struggling a little bit with finding a wild animal book- right now The Last Unicorn is winning."Another one which might be worth checking with J'mom given Unicorns aren't real. Fingers crossed mythical creatures count!
@Sarah - the chart is looking good. It is all coming along nicely!
Like with the Bingo toppler, we should coordinate what we read so that Sheet 1 books are read first to ensure we have it covered before moving on to Sheet 2 books! Obviously, if someone doesn't have any books listed on Sheet 1, they can start their ones from Sheet 2 if that makes sense?!?
@Tejas Janet - way to go at killing two birds with one stone with your Clue/Toppler read. I was wondering about doing the same with mine but I will see how I feel.
Peggy wrote: "Since the main character in Helen's last book is 72 years old and probably doesn't have a job, perhaps that book can count for the 'umemployed' task?"No, she's retired, not unemployed.
So I'm right in thinking that sheet 1 is full and we are now trying to fill sheet 2 and you want us to choose from the empty slots? If so .... I'll take:
Childhood - Read a YA book
and
Get Remarried - Read a Fantasy
Sarah wrote: "Thanks J'mom for clarifying on Helen's book!"Re clarifications:
1. I got a clarification on The Year of the Hare - it qualifies as an exotic animal so we can use that book for either exotic animal or fabulous vacation since it takes place in Finland
2. It looks like you got a response on Armed and Outrageous which was the senior citizen being unemployed - doesn't work for that but does work for Retire over 60
However, I found another book that will work for unemployed Broken Laces - baseball player who injures arm and loses job You can sign me up for that and I will commit to 4 books for the toppler.
Lynn wrote: "So I'm right in thinking that sheet 1 is full and we are now trying to fill sheet 2 and you want us to choose from the empty slots? If so .... I'll take:

Yep 2nd sheet now =] You have a YA book on sheet 1, and I don't knwo whether you can read the same topic again. Best check with Jmom and see if that's okay.
Okie dokie, so Helen I've popped you down for Unemployed, over 60 and exotic pet. What was the 4th task?

Thank you =]
That's a good idea, as we need all of sheet 1 to count before sheet 2. Makes perfect sense =]
Sarah wrote: "Okie dokie, so Helen I've popped you down for Unemployed, over 60 and exotic pet. What was the 4th task?"Yellow Star - works for either Childhood or Get a Divorce - takes place in war - whichever category you need
Hi I have been searching for books I have been wanting to read and these are my choices -The Book Thief - for book in a war/civil conflict
The Fault in Our Stars - YA book
Father Found - main character with a child under 2
let me know if these work...
Looks like we've all checked in now which is great! We appear to have been pretty quiet overnight while the other teams have done loads of posting - I'm thinking that perhaps there are more of us in this team than the others who are from Europe so time zone impacts this.
I've narrowed down my books even further so think I will be reading Annihilation and The Gunslinger but that may change by the time we get reading! These are the two shortest out of my original list.
