Lieke | 697 comments This week I finished Cress by Marissa Meyer for 38. A novel inspired by a work of classic literature. I like the new characters and story twists.

After Cress I finished Club Dead by Charlaine Harris for 48. A banned book. I like the books enough to continue, but this is not a favourite series. I'm not a big fan of Sookie, some of the other characters are more fun (Eric, Bubba). And I missed Sam!

Lieke | 697 comments Last weekend I finished two children's books:
Witch Week by Diana Wynne Jones
The third book I read in the series, it was ok
and Big by Mireille Geus
A dutch book about an autistic girl who's being teased and bullied and what happens when she get a new friend.
It was a sad and powerful book.

Yesterday I finished Four: A Divergent Story Collection by Veronica Roth.
Fun stories that told a bit more about Four.

Lieke | 697 comments I haven't been keeping up this month, I finished the following book last two weeks:
- Scorpion Mountain by John Flanagan
Another fun childrens book, great chracters and full of adventure.

- The Children's Book by A.S. Byat
Already started this book in september last year, but it wasn't the right book at that time. It still wasn't easy to get through, but I enjoyed it more now. It was interesting enough to make me want to know what happened to the characters, but there where many characters in the book. Sometimes it was hard to keep track.

- De kracht van het woud by Robert Haasnoot
I read this book for a challenge on a forum I'm on. Not my type of book, although I enjoyed the parts about the marathon runner. At least until the end, I didn't like the end :(

- Analfabeten som kunde räkna (The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden) by Jonas Jonasson
The last book I finished this month, it is a fun book like the 100-year old man. I read it for 15. A book written or set in Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland). If you don't like over the top stories that have a lot of strange characters this is not for you. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't be able to read many of these stories in a month.

Lieke | 697 comments I finished my first book of the month Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris for 11. A category from another challenge. I just don't remember what category I wanted to use, so I have to search for that again :)
I liked this book better then book 3 I think because I don't like Bill and he was out of the country for most of the book.

message 55: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I finished The Burning Page by Genevieve Cogman this morning. And I liked the book a lot.
I don't want to say to much since it is the third book in the series and people might not have read the first two books. But we have a few characters from other books coming back and some hints for things still to come in the next books.

message 56: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments I enjoyed this one less than the previous books, but it was interesting to learn new things about the world and characters. I'm looking forward to the next book :)

message 57: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I like that you're learning new things about the world and the magic and so is Irene. I'm also looking forward to the next book :)

message 58: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I read The Magicians of Caprona by Diana Wynne Jones, this was my favorite in the series. I don't have the next books in the series, and I'm not sure yet if I want to cntinue the series. Maybe If I can get the next books cheap I will, but probably not sometime soon.

Yesterday I finished Fairest by Marissa Meyer, it was ok but until now my least favorite book in the series.

message 59: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I read the last page of The Farseekers by Isobelle Carmody yesterday for 34. A book set in or by an author from the Southern Hemisphere. This is the 2nd book in the Obernewtyn Chronicles. I enjoyed this book a lot, and very curious what will happen next. I'm glad I own the next two books in the series, but I think I have to start looking for the rest of the series :)

message 60: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I read Een miljoen zeilen by Tais Teng, the 2nd book in a dutch series.
It has great parts but sometimes it is all over the place.

I read Cracked Up to Be by Courtney Summers for 44. A recommendation from "What Should I Read Next". It was good but I liked the other book I read by her better.

I didn't read a lot during my holiday last week but I finished En man som heter Ove for 19. A New York Times best-seller, I loved the book. I had tears in my eyes multiple times. What a great grumpy old man and also the other characters where good.

Unfortunately I didn't like my next book a lot: The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year. I did finish it quick because I could read a lot during the travel back home.

message 61: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Finished reading Dead as a Doornail by Charlaine Harris for 16. A mystery. I liked the book but it gets a bit much with all the guys/characters who like Sookie.

message 62: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I finished the Lorien Legacies: The lost Files series by reading Zero Hour by Pittacus Lore for 51. A collection (e.g. essays, short stories, poetry, plays) . These where the last three novella's in this series.
I enjoyed reading the bit of extra information about these side characters.

message 63: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Finished reading Ashling by Isobelle Carmody, the 3rd book in the Obernewtyn Chronicles, for 45. A book with a one-word title. Another good book in the series, really looking forward to read the next book in June :)

message 64: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Finished two books today Beneath the Earth by John Boyne and Windzangers by Megan Lindholm.
The first book are short stories, I liked it but I think his books for young readers are better. I read this as a side read.
I loved the other book, it is the second book in the series and I liked it more then the first book. I read it for 27. A book by one of your favorite authors, Robin Hobb is one of my favorite authors and Megan Lindholm is her real name.

message 65: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I also love Robin Hobb, but haven't read any books written under Megan Lindholm. What is the difference between books written under the two names?

message 66: by Lieke (last edited May 16, 2017 10:03PM) (new)

Lieke | 697 comments She wrote her Megan Lindholm books all before her Robin Hobb books, the first book in this series was her debut.
So I think her writing style has developed towards her Robin Hobb books. This series is fantasy, I havent read her other Megan Lindholm books but there are some historical fantasy books and even urban fantasy books.

message 67: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Wow, I didn't realize she wrote this many books! I would love my other favorite authors to be this prolific!

message 68: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I finished reading Winter by Marissa Meyer for 18. A really long book (600+ pages). I really liked this series a lot. I was thinking of a different ending (view spoiler). Now I just have to read Stars Above to finish the series.

This was my 26th book for the challenge so I'm on the halfway point of the challenge :)

message 69: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments As a sideread I read Vattenhästen (The Waterhorse) by Dick King-Smith. It was an ok children's book, but a bit too short some points could have been a bit longer. And I didn't like the drawings in the book.

message 70: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I read another book I bought this year Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Not sure what to think of this book, it was not too hard to read being from 1818. I liked reading 'The nightmare of romantic idealism' by Paul Cantor in the back since it gave me some knowledge about the time the book was written and about how people thought back then.

message 71: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments There's a very interesting discussion about Frankenstein on the A-Z post! I definitely want to re-read it at some point.

message 72: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I want to re-read it too - but first I want to get my own physical copy. It needs to be in my library!

message 73: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I will check the a-z post, haven't had time for that yet :)

message 74: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments The last book of the month may was The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey for 43. A book with a chilling atmosphere (scary, unsettling, cold). I'm not a big fan of zombies, but I liked this book. Melanie was een interesting character and the relationele between the characters were well done too.

message 75: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments First book of the month is done Het domein van de Limbreth by Megan Lindholm (Robin Hobb) for 26. An adventure book. Only one more book left in the series, and it is getting better with each book Hopefully that will continue. This book revealed a bit more about Ki's past.

message 76: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I finished the book I read in bed as a side read: An Offer You Can't Refuse by Jill Mansell. Not my favorite by her, the relationship between the main character and her love interest Didn't feel real. I did like the side characters and their relationships a lot so I still gave it 3 stars.

message 77: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Last week I finished:
Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris
Another fun book in the series but book 4 and 5 where my favorites until now. I liked to learn more about Quinn, but I want to read more about Sam :)
I don't have book 7 so not sure if I will continue this series this year.

Makkelijk leven by Herman Koch
A free thin book that started good, but I didn't like the end.

Yesterday I finished A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab for 40. A book published in 2017, the third and last book in the series. I liked it a lot and thought is was a good end to the series, but there are still a lot of opportunities for new series in this world.

message 78: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Today I read Afrekening (Reckoning, Sweep #13) by Cate Tiernan.
I started reading this series many years ago, but never finished it. They are easy but fun books.

message 79: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Today I finished reading book 15 in the Sweep series Nachtkind. With this book I finished a series, finished my GR challenge (not sure if I will put a new number in or just will continue to read) and I finished a challenge for myself: to read at least 50 books that I already owned before 2017.
I'm feeling very good now ;) :)

message 80: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Yesterday I finished reading Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are? by Frans de Waal for 1. A book from the Goodreads choice awards 2016. A very interesting non-fiction book, about how our knowledge about animals has changed and especially how the thinking within science has changed.

message 81: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I finished The Keeping Place by Isobelle Carmody today, I read most of it last month, but didn't manage the last 100 pages so I read them today.
Good 4th book in the series, really have to get book 5 because I want to know what happens next.

message 82: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments Yesterday I finished Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. I'm not sure what to think about it, it was a weird book. I liked the writing and it makes you think. If you don't like it when nothing is explained in the end, this is not the book for you.

message 83: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I finished reading Gelukszoekers by Megan Lindholm for 20. A book you've owned for a while but haven't goten around to reading. I bought this book before 2011. With this book I finished reading the series, I liked the series but this book was not my favorite in the series.

message 84: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments And I'm up to date in another series :)
I read A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin during my two week holiday for 52. A book set in a fictional location.
