"I-I don't know. Laurelle just popped in out of nowhere, l-like this!"

Elwin tapped his chin, "We should bring her home before we do anything," he crouched down beside Laurelle, who looked very close to passing out, "Laurelle? Where do you live?"

"Peacefield," she said in a voice bellow a whisper.

Elwin picked up Laurelle, "Enjis, would you like to come with us to make sure Laurelle's alright?"

Terra doodled around looking at different books. She was bored at home and Isla was being an absolute pest. She needed a break from the gloomy atmosphere of her house, and so she figured she’d leave. She didn’t tell anyone so she couldn’t be bugged anymore. It was nice. Peace and quiet. Plus, the library was a great place to spy and people watch, one of her favourite things to do.

Aaron wandered down an aisle, trying to find a book for one of his classes. He saw the book on the top shelf and reached up to get it but it was just out of reach. Using telekinesis, he was able to grab the book.

Terra chose a book at random and plopped herself in a chair near some other kids her age, pretending to read, but really listening to their hushed conversation. She wasn’t near enough that it was obvious she could hear them, but she definitely could.

Aaron sat next to some girl, flipping open his book. He couldnt concentrate considering the two people having a conversation. Aaron slammed his book shut and started tapping his foot, unintentionally listening in on their conversation.

Terra startled when the boy next to her slammed his book and looked over at him with a raised eyebrow. “Um... are you okay? You seem a smidge twitchy,” she said in a whisper, since it was a library.

"Theres two people over there talking," he jerked his thumb in their direction, "And they keep distracting me, so I gave up trying to study. Alchemy is a useless subject anyways."

He thought for a quick second, Great first impression!
"Let me try that again," he held out his hand and smiled, "Hi, my name is Aaron and those people over there are talking louder than they think."

Terra examined him quickly, trying to judge his character. The way he held himself clearly stated he thought of himself as ‘all that and a plate of mallowmelt.’ He had a bit of odd featuring here and there that indicated he also wasn’t totally elf, but she couldn’t figure out what the percentages were. Interesting.

She smiled and shook his hand. “Lovely to meet you Aaron. I’m Terra. And, yes. Yes they are.”

"Lovely to meet you too," he replied with a smile, releasing her hand.
He shot a withering glare towards the people chatting, though they didnt notice him. He then turned his attention back to Terra.
"So, miss Terra, what brings you to the library today?"

“Oh you know. Hiding from siblings and such. Really I just needed to get out of the house.” She nodded slightly. “And you’re studying for alchemy?”

"Yeah," he groaned, "I really hate alchemy, and Im no good at it."

“To each their own, right? Personally, alchemy is one of my better subjects, but I’m very scientific or whatever. Being a technopath and all.”

"A technopath," he repeated, impressed, "I havent formally met a technopath before," he paused for a brief second, "Im an empath."

Terra smiled a bit. Not many people she talked to had really met a technopath before, which pleased her. She was proud of her ability, and the fact that most other technopaths hated the ability and pretended not to have it was all the better for her to show it off. “Cool,” she chirped, responding to his comment. “I’ve only ever met empaths in passing.” She paused and asked, “How would you describe what I was feeling when we shook hands?” Empaths had always been so interesting to her, and she picked their brains a bit whenever she got the chance.

Aaron scratched the back of his neck, "If im being completely honest with you, Im a pretty weak empath. So i have to concentrate in order to read your emotions," he said, "Want to try again?" He held out his hand.

“Sure!” Terra took his hand again and thought of all the things that made her mood turn sour to test if he could sense the change from curiosity to annoyance.

Aaron smiled when she agreed, but frowned when they touched hands, "Conflicted emotions, curiosity and a dash of annoyance," he gasped somewhat sarcastically, "You dont like me, do you?"

“Oh not at all! I’m very fascinated! I was testing you!” Terra grinned. “How fun!”

Aaron grinned knowing he wasnt hated, "So, whats your fascination with empaths, anyways?"

She shrugged. “I dunno. I just find it interesting that you can feel people’s emotions. If I tried to I’m sure I could make something to make it so I could do it too but nah.”

Aaron hoped he wasnt prying, "Do you ever wish you could be anything other than a technopath?"

“Not really. At one point I wanted to be a beguiler like my sister, but other than that spurt of insanity, I’ve been good with what I got.” She grinned. “A cool thing about technopathy, is that I could have any ability I wanted otherwise. I’d just have to build something to do it.”

"I think technopathy is awesome," he admitted.

“Really? Most people think it’s lame.” Terra raised an eyebrow.

"Why would it be lame?" Aaron inquired, "As a technopath, you could create the most awesome inventions ever! Thats not lame!"

“My thoughts exactly! I’ve never understood why other technopaths are ashamed of being so, but they are! Isn’t that just the weirdest thing?” Terra nodded. She decided that she liked this kid. He was a polite empath that thought technopaths were cool. Maybe if she was lucky he wouldn’t be with the either organization and she could just have a normal friend for once in her life.

"That is weird," he agreed, "Why be ashamed of who you are?"

“Right?” Terra grinned and glanced around the library. The loud conversers had moved, and instead were replaced by a girl with irritatingly familiar red hair. She pursed her lips. Well. There went her afternoon. She looked back at Aaron. “I’ve been hunted down and found,” she informed him with a defeated frown.

Aaron raised an eyebrow, "What?"

Terra sighed. “My sister is sitting over where the loud talkers were, pretending not to listen to our conversation.”

Vixen took that as an invitation and stood up, strutting over to the pair and grinning mischievously. “Afternoon,” she greeted cheerily, clasping her hands behind her back and leaning over Terra’s shoulder so she was more in the conversation. “I’m Vixen,” She crooned, smiling prettily at Aaron. “Terra’s beloved older sister.”

Terra rolled her eyes but didn’t comment yet.

"Im Aaron, the person who just met your beloved little sister," it wasnt lost on Aaron that Terra seemed uncomfortable, and he was eager to find out why.

Terra shifted a bit away from her sister and gave her a please leave look.

Vixen ignored it and held out a hand to Aaron. “Well now I get the pleasure of meeting you as well,” she said smoothly, lacing the words with undertones only beguilers could manage.

Terra scowled, not failing to notice Isla going into beguiler mode. She glanced at Aaron and tried to tell him with her eyes not to fall for it. How rude of Isla. This was her friend! She didn’t want him all broken!

Terra had a look in her eyes that screamed BEWARE! So, he shot her a reassuring look back. He shook hands with Vixen, "Of course." When they touched hands, Aaron used his weak ability to see what the problem was. Vixen was feeling mischievous, so Aaron knew to be wary.

Vixen bit her lip lightly and swirled around to pull up a chair. She sat gracefully with the posture of a princess and an aura of prettiness. Her shock red hair was pulled back in a ponytail that not only contained her thick curls, but added a bit of ‘popular and she knows it’ confidence to her pleased grin.

Terra hated it. “Yeahhhh okay. Uh. Well um, this is my sister, the beguiler one that I used to think was cool for some reason. If you want to ignore her that’s totally fine by me.” She gave Vixen a irritated glance and rolled her eyes again. She’d better not break Aaron cause Terra would be very displeased.

Aaron didnt exactly know what to say in response, so he just chuckled nervously, "Beguiler, huh?"

Vixen nodded. “And a Polyglot,” she added.

Terra made a 😒 face and muttered, “Show off.”

“Ahh,” Vixen crooned. “What was I feeling when we shook hands?” She asked, crossing her legs and leaning toward him just a bit. “Or do I need to touch you again to tell?”

Terra facepalmed and kicked her sister very not-subtly. “Isla stop it you’re gonna break him!” She grumped, giving Aaron an apologetic look.

Vixen giggled and lightly patted Terra’s head. “What ever do you mean sister dear?”

"I could tell perfectly fine thank you," I muttered.

At Terra's words, Aaron raised an eyebrow. Break? Break what? How?

Terra huffed and gave Aaron a forced smile. “Excuse us for a moment,” she said then stood up and pulled Vixen up and out of Aaron’s hearing range. She scowled at her sister. “Stop it!” She hissed.

“No! Mom ditched to go looking for Anika, cause apparently she’s vanished, pun intended, and so I didn’t have anyone to bother anymore!” Vixen crosses her arms. “Plus, he’s cute and more resistant than other boys.”

“Yeah but I found him first so he’s my friend and you’re gonna break him!” Terra whined. “Go awaaaayyyyyy!” She paused. “Anika’s missing?”

Vixen rolled her eyes. “You’re slowing down Terra. Sure do hope this Aaron kid isn’t breaking you.”

Terra scowled. “Ilyana so help me I will smack you here and now. You know I don’t think like that.”
