According to Wikipedia: The world premiere of the film was held at the Vatican on November 29. It is scheduled for a limited release on December 23, 2016, before expanding on January 13, 2017. Here is the trailer on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iqrgx...

Stacey D. | 1908 comments Thanks, Amy. I caught the trailer last night on the "All Movie Trailer" channel last night. Can't wait to read/see it!

Stephanie (teff1979) Need help wight he Hugo Award. I tend to read YA and Childrens books the most and Chickl Lit. Can someone recommend a good book for this category that is shot and fast read.

I think Ender's Game is considered YA. Fahrenheit 451 is a short and easy read. I'm thinking of possibly reading Binti, which is a novella with a female protagonist.

message 55: by J (new)

J Austill | 1116 comments ^ I second Ender's Game. And alternatively, the Lois McMaster Bujold books are fun, fast easy reading by a female author.

I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi or fantasy and am planning on reading Blackout by Connie Willis. The time travel and historical details sounded interesting to me.

message 57: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Laura - I think Connie Willis does a type of time travel that is very literary and not too heavy on the science fiction. I hope you enjoy it.

message 58: by J (new)

J Austill | 1116 comments ^Just an FYI Laura. I haven't read Blackout yet (and its on my 2017 plan) but its part of a diptych with All-Clear. It was split into two books to print and they shared the Hugo.

I'd recommend To Say Nothing of the Dog which is in the same series and also won the Hugo. Mainly because I can guarantee that it stands alone and is absolute top notch. (All 5 books in the series have Hugos!)

message 59: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments Not sure if this is the place to ask, but are we still doing a book of the month next year? Sorry if this was already mentioned somewhere, but I've looked around and haven't seen it.

I had fun with the group reads this year. I participated in almost all of them (the last one just wasn't for me, but I did all the others).

thanks for the ideas, this is hard one for me... maybe i will tryFahrenheit 451 it sounds good. I have to admit its bad that I can't think of things when I am a librarian. I guess its just the topic is not my choice. It is also sad that I may not even be able to complete this challenge, I try to use books for more then one challenge but does not always work

If you haven't read it, I highly recommend The Graveyard Book!

Tashy Jones | 35 comments Ooh I hadn't thought to look in this thread, I was really struggling for a Scandinavian book but The Core of the Sun sounds really interesting! Come on 2017, I want to start this challenge now!

Ginger (Sproutygamer) (sproutygamer) | 9 comments Does a collection count, a collection of comics in one volume?

message 66: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments Ginger > you can use graphic novels (full volumes, not monthly issues) for the challenge if you want. For the collection category, you'll need one with various stories rather than a full volume of issues (something like "Through the Woods" by Carroll or "DC Comics: The New 52" by various authors would work).

Thanks. This is going to be my first year. :)

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) | 53 comments Jennifer Lynn Harrison
https://www.amazon.ca/Pearl-that-Brok...

This book takes place in Kabul, featuring a girl who lives as a boy, and might meet some challenge's requirements. It's 19$ OFF TODAY, so it's only 2 bucks atm! Yours, Jen from Quebec :0)

message 69: by Madde (new)

Madde (maddesaamel) | 2 comments I recommend the Engelsfors trilogy for a book set in Scandinavia (Sweden).

message 70: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1 comments Do you have to follow it in order from 1 to 52 or can you start at any number??

message 71: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments Louise > As it said in the 1 post, you can read in whatever order you wish :)

message 72: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Linnell Is it ok to include graphic novels in this reading challenge? I just finished Nimona and would like to include it.

message 73: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments It is ok to include anything you can read! Graphic novels, picture books, short stories, etc.

Joanna (joreadsalot) | 17 comments Is there a way to see your own 2017 plan at the top of the discussion category so you don't have to search through everyone else's list to find your own?

message 76: by Sophie (last edited Jan 03, 2017 07:12AM) (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Sadly no. But you can put a bookmark in your browser, or a link in your profile description.

Thanks for the suggestion. I bookmarked it as I am not sure how to create links yet on Goodreads.

message 78: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Just on the top right corner of any comment box, click on "some html is ok" and you'll have all the info to put links :)

Yeah!!!! Thanks so much Sophie. I followed the instructions and I created the link on my profile. Whoooo Hooooo

Stacey D. | 1908 comments Wish my plan link on my profile page was more attractive, but it works so alright.

Yeah I kinda wish it was more like a badge that you could click on.

message 82: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Stacey, you need to remove the * on your link and it will look good.

Joanna, I've never done it, but maybe you can add a link to an image here, it you find the solution, can you share with the group?

I definitely will try and if I find out how to do it , I will share it here for sure.

Zaz | 2969 comments Here you go. I picked the group avatar for the image (if you want bigger or smaller, change the 70) and you have to put the link of your plan. Don't forget to remove all the *.

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 244 comments That's awesome! Thank you so much, Zaz! Also thanks for always being so patient mods with questions. I remember not getting the code easily for the links last hear and still appreciate how great and patient you all are with us. :-))))

message 88: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments No problem. I'm fluent in html, so I just need to dig in my memories to find the right code. I'm not sure how it'll work when we'll change the group avatar, so maybe you'll have to change the link for the image later (if it changes, we'll update the image on the group photos).

Pye (helenduvall) | 23 comments I am 8 short on the 2016 ATY 52 challenge but I decided to move forward with 2017. I may use some books in both 2016 and 2017 challenges to close it out.

message 95: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
No worries, I'm 4 short right now. I just tacked them on to my 2017 challenge to make it 56 books instead of 52. Do whatever works for you :)

message 96: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 244 comments I'm doing that too, Helen and then just marking the date I actually complete the 2016 challenge. The summer royally ****** up my completing my challenge. Much to my dismay. :-(((

message 97: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 244 comments I feel like I'm cheating doing it this way but there were many categories I wanted to finish and never got to...I read the most in the winter. Praying I have the focus to finish this years. It's still fun all the same though.

message 98: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments There is no cheating, it's all for fun here! Don't feel pressured.

message 99: by Cherie (new)

Cherie Yay I'm excited for this years 52 books! I joined two years ago but wasn't active on GR last year so I'm excited to start off the new year right! Where do I put my progress for each book I read?

message 100: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments You can find basic info here and create your own thread to track your progress in the "2017 Plans" folder.
