Cheryl (trvljunkie) | 7 comments 4.15 Fire Study - Maria Snyder, 448 pages

Total Points: 35 points

According to my library and bookstore, this is classified as a science fiction novel. Though I am more inclined to categorize it as a YA novel.

For one, she is a young adult in the series and as the series progresses, her maturity develops as she has to grow into her powers and relationships (both romantic and friendly) with people.

The ALA recently recategorized the Study Series as YA, and they came out with a whole different look.
Magic Study went from this: Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder to this: Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder

1.20 Graceling. Many other people read this book last time around. Last time I read Emperors of the Ice A True Story of Disaster and Survival in the Antarctic, 1910-13. I really enjoyed Graceling, but part of the reason why I read what I did last time was to get some variety into the books being read for the first challenge. I can't fault anyone for wanting to read Graceling, though, it was very good!

For this one, since we're not having prizes, pages don't really matter, so if they don't match up, don't worry about it.

4.15 I finished The Host (619 pages) last week and didn't know if I should count it or not, but I decided I wanted to add to our totals as a group! :)

I think this would be a good book for teens to read. There was a little violence/thoughts of violence and some inuendos, but other than that I think it would be fine for teens/young adults.

Michelle | 52 comments For Task 1.20 I read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, which Alison (with the little kitty picture) had read for Task 5.3 during the Summer Challenge. This book caught my eye because it's one I'd been wanting to read for a long time. I read The BFG for this task and am unable to determine which is better since that task was just to reread something from childhood. There's no way that one can be more appropriate than the other and I think they're really too different to choose one over the other since I liked them both.

Is Tithe A Modern Faerie Tale considered horror? It's categorized as fantasy YA at my library. Lydia, do you feel this book should be categorized as Teen Horror? I haven't read it, so I couldn't say.

message 149: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments I have, and I wouldn't call it horror, though maybe slightly on the gothic side. But only slightly. It really is more urban fantasy.

Lydia, I will accept this book for the task if you will explain to me why you believe it to be horror/gothic. Until then, I will only count your other points.
