So as I understand it, we can read anthologies for Book A but not B? I wanted to read Old West Collection for book A, does that work?
Sam wrote: "So as I understand it, we can read anthologies for Book A but not B? I wanted to read Old West Collection for book A, does that work?"Anthologies are not allowed. This task is designed for books written by a single author
Dee wrote: "It does look like the single author falls into book b because of formatting (just as an FYI)"Sorry, I will clarify this in message 2, and in the final copy when all the tasks are finalized
CLARIFICATION:Book A and Book B must EACH be written by a single author .... you do NOT mean that Book A & Book B must both be written by the same single author?
SECOND QUESTION:
Book B author First & Last initials must appear in:
C O M P A S S and/or G P S
So an author named George Miller (G from GPS, M from Compass) would work?
Book Concierge wrote: "CLARIFICATION:Book A and Book B must EACH be written by a single author .... you do NOT mean that Book A & Book B must both be written by the same single author?
SECOND QUESTION:
Book B author..."
Yes to both questions. Book A and B can be different authors if you like or the same, there just can't be more than one author for a given book
and
Yes all the letters in GPS or COMPASS are fair game, you just can't use a letter more times than it appears in GPS and COMPASS so you could use 2 S's or two P's.
My planBook A - South of Superior - SOUTH
Book B - Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall (S.C. in COMPASS)

First Grave on the Right by Darynda JonesBook B :
The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen (I can omit the middle name, right?)

Yes both choices are fine

Nicole wrote: "My plan:Book A: I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High

Both your choices are fine.
Do the word for book A have to be used in a directional sense? Or can it have another meaning.I think about:
The One I Left Behind
Fandury wrote: "Do the word for book A have to be used in a directional sense? Or can it have another meaning.I think about:

no, I put no restrictions on the meaning, so this book will work.
I think I will read:Book 1: Right by Her Side by Christie Ridgway.
Book 2: The Only Woman to Defy Him by Carol Marinelli.

I wanted to ask before I posted. I am reading Unbelievable by Sara Shepard for the COMPASS task. The book is a young adult book and I wanted to make sure there weren't any special rules I missed.
Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "I wanted to ask before I posted. I am reading Unbelievable by Sara Shepard for the COMPASS task. If it had children's listed as a genre it would have to be over 300 pages to work. You might have one of the moderators weigh in to be sure though.

It doesn't have children's listed as a genre but it is over 300 pages so even if children's was listed it would still be acceptable.

In reading Ken Jennings' Maphead: Charting the Wide, Weird World of Geography Wonks for the Spring Challenge I realized how obsolete maps are becoming so I thought I'd work on some simple map skills
Read two books, one Book A and one Book B.
This task is designed for books written by a single author, no coauthors or authors contributing to an anthology.
Book A. Read a book that has in its title/subtitle one of the following words:
North, South, East, West, Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast, right, left.
We are sticking to basics here so NO variations of these words are acceptable.
Book B. According to some pundits, if you can use a compass, you will never get lost. Read a book by an author whose initials for their first and last names can be found in the word COMPASS and/or GPS (to let the technology minded have a little leeway.)
Letters may only be used as often as they appear in the target word(s). Middle names and initials may be ignored.
