newest »

Anthologies are not allowed. This task is designed for books written by a single author

Sorry, I will clarify this in message 2, and in the final copy when all the tasks are finalized

Book A and Book B must EACH be written by a single author .... you do NOT mean that Book A & Book B must both be written by the same single author?
SECOND QUESTION:
Book B author First & Last initials must appear in:
C O M P A S S and/or G P S
So an author named George Miller (G from GPS, M from Compass) would work?

SECOND QUESTION:
Book B author..."
Yes to both questions. Book A and B can be different authors if you like or the same, there just can't be more than one author for a given book
and
Yes all the letters in GPS or COMPASS are fair game, you just can't use a letter more times than it appears in GPS and COMPASS so you could use 2 S's or two P's.

Book A - South of Superior - SOUTH
Book B - Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall (S.C. in COMPASS)

Book 2: The Only Woman to Defy Him by Carol Marinelli.

Book 2: The Only Woman to Defy Him by Carol Marinelli."
Both choices are fine

I think it is ok as I interpret the rules, if it is listed as YA but NOT children's then it is acceptable, which this book seems to be. If it had children's listed as a genre it would have to be over 300 pages to work. You might have one of the moderators weigh in to be sure though.

This works. It doesn't have children's listed as a genre but it is over 300 pages so even if children's was listed it would still be acceptable.

In reading Ken Jennings' Maphead: Charting the Wide, Weird World of Geography Wonks for the Spring Challenge I realized how obsolete maps are becoming so I thought I'd work on some simple map skills
Read two books, one Book A and one Book B.
This task is designed for books written by a single author, no coauthors or authors contributing to an anthology.
Book A. Read a book that has in its title/subtitle one of the following words:
North, South, East, West, Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast, right, left.
We are sticking to basics here so NO variations of these words are acceptable.
Book B. According to some pundits, if you can use a compass, you will never get lost. Read a book by an author whose initials for their first and last names can be found in the word COMPASS and/or GPS (to let the technology minded have a little leeway.)
Letters may only be used as often as they appear in the target word(s). Middle names and initials may be ignored.
