I hope it’s not next year! Hopefully toward the end of December but you know during the holidays things tend to get ‘pushed’ so it very well could be next year. :(
Hello my favorite Art Lovers! So, I posted the poll asking your opinion on the background picture and got a good response from you all. Thank you!
Dirk and I have been trying to post one for the New Year made Specifically for this group by Dirk but the problem I am having is the picture HAS to be between 1KB and 6MB (!!) that’s small! So alas, you can’t see his great work yet. I’m still working on it. We’ll get it hopefully before next year!
Until then...
Carry On, Carry On!
Since the beginning of this year, going on 9 days ago, we have had 4 or 5 new members add. Welcome! I hope adding this group is part of a resolution you may have to learn more or participate in learning about art. And you’re here! May we all learn, share, and have fun doing it!
Hello everyone, and welcome to all of you newcomers! Just wanted to let you know that my computer has seen better days and is going to retire. I'm shipping it off to be upgraded so I will be without my PC for a little while.
I can still comment in the group, but I won't be able to post anything for a little while until I get my computer back.
Thank you for understanding!\. And keep up the great work!
As I always say...
YOU ARE ALL AWESOME!!!
Hello Art lovers! Life has been CRAZY! But I just got out of the hospital and since, you remember last YEAR May 2019, I finally got my thyroid out! Yes I’ve been in limbo battling with doctors and surgeons and one physician assistant, now I can go back to work! Ugh! What a pain this has been and literally draining! Who knew the thyroid controlled so many things in the body?
Well, I’m sure many of you know, there’s not a chance that some of you aren’t physicians yourselves or at least quite educated in medicine. But I had no idea until it affected me so much!
I have saved some things I would like to share with you, I’m recovering at my mom’s house for a few days but hope to be back with you shortly.
I miss you all!
Thank you to all of you who have kept it alive, especially Dirk! You’re the man!
See you all soon!
I am very sad and hate to post something so sorrowful at this time of year. But this is for those of you who have been with me for several years and have known Ed Smiley, an artist himself from Santa Cruz, California USA. He was wise in art and many other things. He hadn't been active in this group for the last couple years due to medical issues but he was very active before then and I think he joined the group almost at it's beginning in 2009!
I'm friends with him on Facebook and I'm sorry to announce his passing this last Thursday, December 10, 2020. I don't know how. He had just succeeded in having a lung transplant, his body took the transplant well, he got off his oxygen tank and was doing physical therapy. He would post videos of his walks and his progress.
He was always so positive and hopeful for the future. I had many private conversations with him about things like quantum mechanics and also art. He was so wise! Even his comments here were more than just opinion. He backed them with facts, articles and history.
He will be greatly missed, I'm glad to have known him for the years I did know him. I met him through this group and then on FB. I'm sorry I never met him in person. But I got to know him and for that I am thankful.
NOTE: I need to edit this. I read it wrong because people quit posting on his wall and only 3 people posted which I thought was sad. But I posted today. He passed away on August 10, 2020 and I feel horrible that I didn't know that!
Heather wrote: "I am very sad and hate to post something so sorrowful at this time of year. But this is for those of you who have been with me for several years and have known Ed Smiley, an artist himself from S..."
That is indeed sad news. Sorry to hear that.
But at least you know what happened to him.
Sometimes people just stop posting and you never know why and it's dificult not to think the worst...
Dirk wrote: "Heather wrote: "I am very sad and hate to post something so sorrowful at this time of year. But this is for those of you who have been with me for several years and have known Ed Smiley, an artis..."
True, and that's what I think about Geoffrey, I'm sorry to say...
Heather, I'm sorry to hear about Ed. I did not know him, but I remember his informative comments when I was a new member on Goodreads.
Thank you, Connie. It’s nice to know that you remember his comments when you first came because they were informative. He was so intelligent! And in a lot of things. He was always willing to share what he knew but only when asked (he wasn’t self-absorbed in talking about himself). He was witty, and positive, and generous. An outgoing person and besides being so smart and talented, he was always humble.
Hello everyone! I'm trying to get this news out, I'm not sure how to go about it. I've done a group mass message and it said I had a bad link and apparently the message didn't send...after all my time and effort. I know a lot of you don't want emails hearing from me, I know that when I have polls, several members drop the group. Every time that is what happens. I don't like that that happens, but I will accept that in order to make the majority of you aware of the news that I believe is important and you would want to know! I feel it is my duty as a moderator and friend to let you know these things. So if I manage to actually send a group message and it reads something like I'm posting here, I'm sorry to be redundant, I don't try to be this way, I just want to get the word out.
Okay Heather, get down to business!
Dirk has been doing wonderfully well at posting the picture of the day! Many times, he is the only post for that day! I feel badly that I don't post every day as the moderator and he is still diligent in moderating his thread!
But he has been uploading his images to the group photos. The max capacity there is 2,500 and he has now reached the capacity. I went through and deleted mine and some that weren't necessary and he deleted some duplicates and that has given him a few more days, so during this time, I have created an adjunct group called Art Lovers Part 2. It is basically for the Picture of the Day. So it might be more of a skeleton group not having too much more in it because I'm thinking that the majority of the members will be from this group, you following along with Dirk's Picture of the Day. At least, I hope you will add that group to follow along with us!
Here is the link, you know what to do! https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
I might add a few things here and there, revisit old posts from many years ago that have gotten lost in the other group. We'll see what shows up there. If you do have any comments or suggestions, again there is a general folder, ask away! Or you know you can always send me a PM.
I hope to see you again in the new group also. (Keep this group for all the other threads and fun!)
Know you rock! You keep us alive! Thank you!
Hello members galore! You all are awesome! And we’ve had several new people who have not only joined the group, but also Introduced themselves! How refreshing.I want to only say one thing. I have been away, yes but I have so much to post and comment on! I want to get to that today.
Barbara, a member of the group, sent me an awesome link that I really want to share and I’m sure she’s wondering where I went! I’m here Barb. It’s coming!
I’m on my phone and I can’t post links or pictures and those are what I need today. When I get to my PC, probably this afternoon, I’ll be there for quite awhile!
So here I come!
Hello all members with good taste and passion…ART where the heART is! I have an announcement:
This coming January will be 13 years since the birth of this group which started with 2 people and has grown to what we are now. Since then we have expanded to much more than I ever dreamed!
I appreciate every single one of you, even you lurkers and those who stop in even once a year! AND you who added the group but don’t participate or haven’t ever participated, I value your presence, if only to respect your love of Art being the sole reason you added the group.
As I’m sure you’ve noticed over the last year my frequent absence. This is due in part to multiple health problems, but mostly… I’m tired. I’m burned out, I’m sorry to say.
I want to feel that this has been one of my greatest accomplishments then I plan to move on to whatever comes next in my life.
So come December 1, I am going to officially retire as moderator for this group. Maybe before Christmas is a good time, or maybe it is a bad time, but it is time for me.
Dirk has graciously accepted the responsibility to become moderator of this group. I’m sure he will do an excellent job. Those of you who have been with me over the past 5 years or more know that I once was more active, more enthusiastic, had more ideas, and participated much more. Dirk is much newer to the scene and he will bring a fresh perspective which I believe is needed at this time.
I don’t know if I will stay in the group and occasionally post or comment, or if I will drop out and not look back. I haven’t decided yet.
I will miss those of you with whom I’ve developed a friendship and gotten to know. It has been really nice meeting people from other areas of the world and if not messaging with you personally, just to read your comments and posts. Thank you!
I will say goodbye when the time draws near in about a week. I’m not sure if I will do anything spectacular to say goodbye or just post another comment here. But I did want to let you know and introduce your upcoming new moderator, Dirk.
Talk to you soon!
Thank you, Heather, for all you have done for the group. Wishing you lots of luck wherever life takes you.
We wish you luck with new beginnings, and thank you for all you’ve done here. Whopemyoull drop by once in a while. Dirk is the perfect choice.
Heather, good luck with chilling and taking a breather. I’m one of those lurkers who posts now and then. I’ve also been simplifying and enjoying life with things that are meaningful to me. I hope you’ll find enjoyment with simplifying, staying away from drama, and being with supportive people. Such joy is precious and not to be underestimated.
Thank you , Aloha. You are so right! You’ve been with me for some years now and I have valued the comments you have made in the past when you have stuck your head in. I’m glad you are finding joy in your life through those things that are meaningful to you. Thank you for your encouragement and support. :)
Thank you Barb! I appreciate that and thank you for your activity in the group.I’ve loved your comments and additional posts, like the one you had me do. That was so awesome! I love it when members contribute stuff like that, too. You rock, keep doing what you do!
Hello all! I'm posting so late in the day for me (5:00pm) and I have meant to post on Art Lovers all day and things kept coming up. I'm so sorry! I know some of you are in bed and the day is now December 1 so I'm a day behind you. I'm still in November! I have a few things to post and they are November related so I hope you will just laugh and bear with me. Anyway, that is not the point of this post. This is the post I'm sure you have been expecting as a few days ago I announced my 'retirement' from the group coming the last day of this month (November).
Well...things have changed a bit and I have a new announcement. I hope this won't upset anyone, I think it should be a positive thing. I hope so, anyway.
So...as of right now, I will still be moderator and so will Dirk! He will be my co-moderator. Not under me but beside me, equal to me, just another moderator for this group.
I have decided to stay as of right now. Call me indecisive, that, I am. I don't know if I will just show him the ropes for the month of December then retire in January which is the month I started the group so it will be exactly 13 years that I've had this group, or if I will continue with the group and be moderator with Dirk.
He expressed to me when I offered him the position that he might be a bit less active due to him retiring from his job now and he plans to travel more and other things to do after his retirement so he won't be with the computer as much. With this in mind, I hope to supplement the times when he isn't as active, and the other way around. And I promise to be more active than I have been.
So I hope the group itself will become more active with both of us doing our part and hopefully adding more things of interest that will spark some activity from you!
Thus, this is my announcement. I will still be here. I do really appreciate the well wishes from Barb, Aloha, Ruth, Connie, and Jimmy. That makes me feel good :)
I'm glad I could at least make some difference to some of you. I hope to make more difference in the group to more of you, even if you don't express it to me.
I think Dirk will do an excellent job! And I think you think the same. I do hope you don't think I am a dead rag. I will honestly try to do better and I will do my very best to serve you all. Because that's how i feel as being a moderator. My job is to serve you! Not to be 'better', or anything more than you are as members. But I want to bring to you interest, fun, and education, or whatever you expect from the group.
So, on with the show!
Ciao for now :)
Heather
Hello all,Last year we started a second Art-Lovers group here on Good Reads.
It was just to avoid the limit of up-loadable photo's to the group.
The main group has a limit of a bit more than 1000 photo's.
But a couple of weeks ago I got a message that I could not upload more than 500 photo's to Art Lovers part 2.
I thought it was a new limit by Goodreads and thought: well let's just start a third group: so ArtLovers part 3 was born with for the moment only myself as member.
And that is the problem I assume: the limit for photo's is linked to the number of members. Because today I already reached a limit of 25 photo's.
The main Art Lovers group has now 1931 members
Part 2 has 74 members
and Part 3 has 1
So the more members, the more photo's...
To give us more I would like to ask all of you to join part 3

Many thanks in advance!
Why can’t we just remove some of the images here in our original group, starting with the oldest ones?
Ruth wrote: "Why can’t we just remove some of the images here in our original group, starting with the oldest ones?"We thought of that possibility when we started Part 2 but that would mean that all the older threads (mostly Pic of the Day) would have broken links...
Zoe wrote: "I just joined and posted to the new group."Thank you, Zoe! You're awesome! I just sent out a mass message. It's a brave, bold, scary thing to do because there are always several people who drop the group when they get any message. That's why I don't send them but this is important and I don't think many people have seen this post. Thank you for your participation!
Oh, you're welcome. I so enjoy Dirk's daily posts. I almost feel incomplete when I get too busy to see them on some days.
Zoe wrote: "Oh, you're welcome. I so enjoy Dirk's daily posts. I almost feel incomplete when I get too busy to see them on some days."`Wow,thank you Zoe!
That is a nice big compliment to wake up to!
Fellow Art Lovers! I’m so happy that this group has grown to what it is today!
From being 2 people in January 2009 to now, we have seen a lot of change, learning and progress! I feel it has been a high point of my whole life over the last 13 years.
I know I mentioned this before toward the end of last year when I made a Dirk another moderator but then I didn’t follow through on leaving the group. But you can see I haven’t been active at all this month. My life has taken a different direction and I feel that my time for this group has now closed.
I urge you all to keep on doing what you’re doing and even more if you feel so inclined! Dirk will be a fabulous moderator! He already is.
Thank you all for supporting me and for just being in the group!
Have a wonderful day, week, month, and rest of the year!
Thank you so much for starting such a wonderful group ,Heather. Its so good, so rich with content.
Thank you for such work.
And Dirk is great too.
Hope you have the best , in whichever direction you go.
Maybe, sometimes you can look in.
We will miss you.
❤

Thank you for all your comments and participation! You have been a joy to have in the group. I hope you continue to enjoy the group, you are one member who keeps it alive, active and interesting! Thank you!
Thank you for starting this group, Heather. I wish you lots of happiness in your next venture. You're leaving the group in good hands with Dirk already doing a great job.
