Janet F (janet_f) | 450 comments I'm Janet, in my 50's livin' the good life in WA. I love books and reading and just discovered your group a few days ago. It took me awhile to figure out rewards/tasks/rules and I'm a little nervous as a 'newbie' to online groups or posting in general. Seriously, a wall of shame! Yikes! I love it!! Thanks for the motivation.

message 902: by CassieV (new)

CassieV Hi everyone, I'm Cassie. I think I have almost joined this group about 5 times, but I always get overwhelmed by the sheer number of tasks in the challenge. Even still I keep getting drawn back, what can I say? I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess :). Anyway, I may not get very many tasks done each challenge, but I'd like to try!

Oh, and a bit more about me: I'm 28, a stay-at-home mom, with a four year old daughter, a two year old son and a husband who is very patient with my large pile of library books that he constantly trips over :).

Off to re-read the rules!

message 903: by Penny (new)

Penny | 8 comments Hi everyone! I'm Penn, 28 years old. I still consider myself a newbie here in Goodreads and definitely in this group since I'm just starting to discover and explore other stuff that this site has to offer. I currently have a day job and use most of my free time reading and watching TV. I love to challenge myself and I think this group is just the right place for me. Would love to meet more book lovers too.

message 904: by Evil (new)

Evil (evilqueen22) | 6 comments Hello! My name is Sary. I absolutely love reading and challenges! I cannot say no to a challenge!. I am 19 years old and I love to read while listening to The Phantom Of the Opera soundtrack and Celine Dion. :D I shall try to do well on the Fall Challenge!

message 905: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey there. My name is Lori. I'm 52, which is still hard for me to believe because that used to sound ancient, now not so much. :) I love the challenge that I found on another group and was looking for more like it. I've read the instructions but still trying to figure it out. Looks like you are in the midst of the Fall Challenge so I may wait to jump in till December. I'll just keep checking things out.

message 906: by Leana (new)

Leana (Flickering Fandom) (flickeringfandom) | 33 comments Hey Lori, I'm new too and I was going to wait until December :)

I'm Faith, I'm 21, I'm in my final year at uni studying Zoology with Conservation & I write a blog at StudentSpyglass

message 907: by Wanda (new)

Wanda (wanda71) | 1770 comments Hello to all . My name is Wanda and I have just recently retired after 35 years in the teaching profession. Most of my time was spent at the secondary level teaching History and also in administration. Now I spend much of my time entertaining my two grandsons, aged 8 and 3. I am, however, finding more time to pursue my true passion-reading. I am still trying to sort through all the rules but look forward to beginning the challenge in December.

message 908: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 16 comments Hi Everyone...there sure are a lot of you, lol!

My name's Cathie, I live Canada - Toronto, Ontario and this book club intrigued me because of all the challenges. I work a lot of overnight shifts (rehab centre) and spend many days groggy curled up with good books. I'm not sure I understand what to do, but I'm pretty sure I'm right on time to begin the winter 2012 challenge.

I look forward to conversations shared :-)
Thanks for letting me be a part of your group.

message 909: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 86 comments Good morning all!!

My name is Jennifer. I live in Illinois, about 20 minutes east of St Louis, MO. I am mom to 3 kids, ages 18, 9, and 6. I am currently unemployed so am enjoying my time at home!! I have never done a reading challenge, but this looks like alot of fun. I think I understand how to do this but will probably have some questions :). I look forward to making some new friends here and partaking in your discussions.

message 910: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie | 27 comments Hi, I just joined today and very excited to see your season starts in December! I am a 35 year old woman with a 5 year old daughter. Now that my daughter has become more independent, I a have become addicted to reading. I am new to book clubs and challenges, and I am very excited to meet fellow book addicts and to see member suggestions. Thanks for having me.

Stefanie

message 911: by Kristine (new)

Kristine (kristinekae) | 251 comments Hello, I'm Kristine. I live in Utah, married with three kids. I love reading challenges and this looks great with lots of categories to chose from.
I am just in time to start the new challenge!

message 912: by Catrina (new)

Catrina Donnelly | 24 comments Hi, I'm Catrina and I am new to the challenge although not completely new to Goodreads. I have looked at a couple of the previous challenges and wondered whether or not I should take part and now I have decided to take the plunge.

I read as much as I can as often as I can. I enjoy various different kinds of books especially romantic mysteries and thrillers.

I now read my Kindle predominantly and hope that I will be able to read most of my challenge books on there but not entirely sure if this is possible. I do still read print books but lack of space has limited my purchasing power more recently.

Thank you for the work that goes into the challenges and good luck to everyone.

C x

message 913: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Hi everyone. I'm Stacie and I'm new to this group! I'm staring at the latest Winter Challenge and I must say I'm a bit intimidated but looking forward to figuring it out!

message 914: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi All
Just joined this morning ,and it looks like a perfect time to sign up . The Winter Challenge just started yesterday,so I'm getting in at a good time.
Now off to make myself a list of possible books that can be used for the categories :)

message 915: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 02, 2012 04:54PM) (new)

Hi my name is Marguerite and I love to read and have since I was in 3rd grade (54 yrs old now). If it looks good, sounds good I will read it. Most women love to buy clothes, shoes, books are what I buy.lol Hubby tells everyone that he knows that when we go to a bookstore he knows I will be spending money. Potato chip ads say you can't eat just one, well I can't just buy one book.rofl Count me in on the winter challenge.

message 916: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean | 69 comments Hi. I'm Joanne and I love to read. I'm a 26 year old Prekindergarten teacher. I live in Queens New York!

I've been reading since I was a little kid. I mostly read YA paranormal books with an emphasis on Vampires and YA historical fiction. I also would like to say that I have loved vampires since I was a kid and wayyy before the twilight vampire crazy. I like my vampires old fashioned- none of this glittering in the sun stuff. My favorite book is Nevermore by Kelly Creagh (Ironically it has nothing to do with vampires). I love Kelly Creagh's Nevermore series and shes one of my favorite authors. I also love the Tiger's Curse Series by Colleen Houck. I love Amelia Atwater Rhodes, especially her vampire novels. I have also loved R.L. Stine since I was a kid and I still do.

I am a challenge addict and I can't wait to start this challenge.

message 917: by Samantha McNulty (new)

Samantha McNulty Hello every one! I'm Sam and an avid reader of YA and historical fiction. I'm currently doing voluntary work in schools and tackling health issues. Reading is a major part of my life - I wouldn't be sane without it!

message 918: by Robyn (new)

Robyn hello all! i just stumbled across this group and am glad i did. this group is a challenge lovers dream! i can see hours of list making in my future :). i live in texas and am usually found trying to squeeze in some reading while chasing around my 4 yr old, working, and finishing my degree. for this winter challenge i will probably just lurke around a bit. i have some ocd about starting at the very beginning of a challenge and with all the info on this group it may take me a little while to get the gist of things. i look forward to getting to know you all and to finding new books to add to my favorites list.

message 919: by Joy (new)

Joy (cornwalljoy) | 2 comments Hi,
I am new to the challenge, but looking forward to finding new titles and authors based on the challenges and your recommendations.

Happy reading!

message 920: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello, I'm also new around here and I think this will be a great place to find new and different titles I would probably not read elsewhere.

message 921: by Fairlee (new)

Fairlee Corkran | 54 comments I m Fairlee from Hamlin Tx. I love to do challenges and hope to contribute to the group. I take care of my disable husband and have 3 grown sons. I love cozy mysteries

message 922: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Stultz (wicketwillowbean) | 1 comments My name is Elizabeth, I'm from Louisville Kentucky, and I'm 24. I have a BA in Psychology and I currently work at a daycare with toddlers where I'm a teacher. I'm going back to school in August to obtain a teaching degree so that I can work as a third grade teacher. Anyway, this is my first time taking part in a reading challenge so I'm excited to get started. I don't have a blog yet but this is encouraging me to start one. I can't wait to start on my challenges and meet new people.

-Elizabeth

message 923: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) Hello. My name is Maria Helena and I am a challenge addict. I love to read, mostly romance and mystery/crime but try to branch out a little with new authors and genres. I might just lurk around a little during the winter season challenge and start for real with the next one.

message 924: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 106 comments Hi, I'm Claire, I'm a postgraduate student in the UK doing an MRes/PhD into Mitochondrial Medicine.

I love reading and think the best way to relax is with a cup of tea and a good book! Or my Kindle as I don't have a lot of shelf space! I'm now addicted to reading challenges and keep finding more to take part in!!

I'm involved in Girl Guiding and St John Ambulance in my spare time which I really really enjoy along with cross stitch and crochet!

message 925: by Karina (new)

Karina (karinargh) Hi - I'm Karina. Norwegian, twenty-something, illustrator, enthusiastic about tea AND coffee. I also like cats, dinosaurs, sharks, polkadots, anything ginger-flavoured, and my kindle. Mostly I read in English, occasionally in Norwegian, and I'm working on my Spanish.

I mostly read science fiction (all sub-genres), fantasy (but avoid the elves and dwarves), and non-fiction (medicine, psychology, languages, history, astronomy, and whatever else looks interesting).

message 926: by Quenby (new)

Quenby (quenby23) Hello, I'm Quenby. I'm American and live in the UK. I enjoy ballet, old films, and NY. Making a book list is fun, too! Reading is my favorite healthy thing I do to unwind after a tough day. I like to read almost all genres but my favorites are fiction, science fiction, and good memoir.
I look forward to participating in the spring challenge!

message 927: by Katie (new)

Katie Hi everyone! I'm Katie and am a HUGE challenge addict. I predominantly read romance...currently m/m is on my radar. I figure I'll wait out the end of this winter season and get a fresh start in the spring. :)

message 928: by Ty (new)

Ty | 563 comments haha hiii Katie. Welcome to your newest obsession SRC!

message 929: by Katie (new)

Katie Lol...thanks, Ty!

OMG, I know. This looks so awesome. I saw you guys talking about it in the RRRC awhile ago and I kept checking it out, telling myself that I didn't need another challenge...especially one of this magnitude, but as you can see, I clearly didn't listen to myself.

message 930: by Ty (new)

Ty | 563 comments ha. It took me a couple days just to read the rules and guidelines. But you'll get the hang of it. We're all enablers here. XD

message 931: by Kirsty (last edited Jul 24, 2014 04:16AM) (new)

Kirsty | 85 comments Hi i'm Kirsty. I'm a 22 and from Nottingham, UK. I'm a full time newly qualified staff nurse working in Gynaecology. I work long days so have 3-4 days off every week, plenty of time for reading however other stuff does tend to get in the way. I tend to go through phases of cant-get-enough-of-reading and haven't-looked-at-a-book-in-months. I'm hoping that joining this challenge will keep me at it for longer. I'm currently reading the hunger games series; i got the three of them for valentines day and i'd finished the first one by the 15th feb. I'm not usually a particularly fast reader and im also pretty strapped for cash so might not get many books onto my completed list (and the ones i do might have to be ebooks as they seem to be cheaper and arrive instantly) but having some structure and challenge excites me. I only set up my goodreads account properly a few days ago and ive already got 400 books on my to-read list so plenty to get through. I've got all the classics on there, lots of post apocalyptic stuff, books with nurse characters, books from lists of 'books you must read before you die', books made into films and books based on games. I can't wait to get started :-)

message 932: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 285 comments Hello everyone! I stopped participating awhile ago, because the number of books to complete the challenge was getting out of hand, but it looks like things are much more manageable. I look forward to starting this challenge!

message 933: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandapearl) | 267 comments hey guys, so I participated in this group when I first joined GR but haven't been active in quite some time. I am excited to try and participate in the Spring challenge! Good luck everyone :D

message 934: by Pam (new)

Pam | 4 comments I've been lurking around here a little while (why does that always sound so bad) and see that a challenge is just beginning so I'd like to wade in.

About me: I'm a high school special education teacher--English. Reading has always been my favorite way to decompress, but I read in fits and starts depending on job duties. My idea of the perfect vacation is sitting on a beach and finishing at least a book a day. I mostly read romance, mystery, young adult and school-related anything. I have two grown children and a husband. Right now under the roof, I also have three grandkitties and two grandpuppies as my daughter has temporarily moved back in as her husband has accepted a new job across the country.

message 935: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 263 comments Hi y'all. My name is Anna and I'm new to the group. I currently live in Idaho to work but am originally from Alabama. I love to read and am always up for a good challenge. I stumbled upon this group and was very intrigued by the fun challenges that are going on. I enjoy reading all types of books and have been breaking my iPad mini in since Christmas. I look forward to meeting everyone and having a great time reading new books.

Emerald Browne | 2 comments Just wanted to say hi:) I'm Emily but my friends call me Emerald ... I'm 27 years old and love my books as though they were dear friends ... Looking forward to joining in with discussions and much more :) ... Xx

message 937: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (kheleyr) | 120 comments Hello All :) My name is Alexis Alvarez. I am 27, and I live in Los Angeles, CA with my fiance and our two pooches, Sarge and Wells.

I am a research attorney so I do a lot of reading, but not much of it is for fun. Now is the time to even the reading field. I have been thinking about taking on a challenge for quite some time, and I finally decided to go for it. I am very excited!

message 938: by MiA (new)

MiA (mirhershelf) | 117 comments Hello, I'm Marwa from Egypt. I'm a book lover who's looking forward to jump into some of the seasons challenge. I know I'm starting late but hopefully I'll catch up.

message 939: by Karen (new)

Karen Roman This looks like a mad, mad place, where I will feel right at home.

I'm Karen, 52, from Atlanta, GA. I live with a geriatric cat and an amazing roommate who often cooks wonderful meals and serves them up to me when I am in my reading chair, forgetting to eat. How'd I get so lucky? Sometimes I obsess about knitting as much as I obsess about reading, and then it's audiobooks for me, so I can multitask. I'm on the Boxall 1001 challenge, so I am certain may of those titles will end up on my lists.

message 940: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Hayden (lylasmom) | 2 comments My name is Leslie and I am 25, and I live in Spanaway, WA with my fiance and our soon to be baby girl, Lyla. I currently work full-time as a security guard (so I get a lot of reading done lol) and so does my fiance. I am a part-time student at Capella University working on my Bachelor's Degree in psychology.

I have always loved to read from the time I started until now. I'm more of a "general reader" meaning I like to read from all genres. I can't guarantee I will like all books from genres but I like to at least give them a try. There are books I was surprised to find I enjoyed just by doing so. I am fairly new to reading challenges but am enjoying them thoroughly so far.

message 941: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, all my first time in this group looks like fun. my name is delmy and i am soon to be out of school, thought i'd pick up some reading! and challenges, the challenges look complicated so i would appreciate any guidance everyone!

message 942: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Hi everyone! I just joined this group. My name is Nancy. I'm 33 and live in NY. I'm a stay-at-home mom for now, but my "baby" will start kindergarten in Sept. I also have a daughter who is 7. So I hope to work part-time in the fall.

I'm kind of lurking, checking out the boards so I'll be ready for the summer challenge! Will have lots of reading time then!

message 943: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments I would like to say welcome to the new SRC folks. You will love this!

message 944: by Carolyn (last edited May 22, 2013 03:18PM) (new)

Carolyn | 11 comments Hello everyone! My name is Carolyn and I live in Cambridge, MA with my cat Oliver (don't worry, I wear the stigma "crazy cat lady" with grace and dignity). I'm new to the group and am really looking forward to the start of the summer challenge, which happens to coincide with my birthday (32nd)! I probably would've discovered this group and joined much earlier if it weren't for my general discomfort with social networking sites. But I love Goodreads and can't wait to play the game with all of you!

message 945: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello Everyone. My name is Talia, I'm 34 years old, and I live in Arizona. I am single, no kids, no pets, and I work for a court reporting firm. I wish there were more hours in the day so I could finish a book each day. You'd think I'd have a lot of free time for reading not having any kids, but I have a long commute to Phoenix each day, and listening to audiobooks while driving usually makes me sleepy. So I have my nose in a book every chance I get. I just heard about this group from someone in another group, so I'm so glad I'm just in time for the summer challenge. Looking forward to joining in!

message 946: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (_lindsey_) | 498 comments So nice to meet all you new members! I agree with Sheila - you will love this! I have been on and off in this group for three years, and I can never stay away for too long, and it's always just as fun as when I first started!

message 947: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments Welcome Talia. Have you started figuring out what books that you want to read fit which tasks yet? To me new task day is like Christmas coming 4 times a year! And then as people finish then their created tasks get posted so it is like the 12 days of Christmas. I hope you enjoy the SRC as much as the rest of us. We have super moderators so don't be afraid to ask questions.

message 948: by [deleted user] (new)

Sheila wrote: "Welcome Talia. Have you started figuring out what books that you want to read fit which tasks yet? To me new task day is like Christmas coming 4 times a year!"

Hi Sheila. Yes, I was on the computer for hours last night finding books to meet the tasks. I have the 30-point tasks left to figure out, and then I'm ready for June!

message 949: by Kim (new)

Kim | 2 comments Hi everyone! My name is Kim, I'm 26 and I live in Seattle, WA. I wasn't much of a reader until after I graduated college and now I have my nose in a book whenever I get a chance. I am currently a substitute teacher and nanny with hopes of getting a full time teaching job in the fall. My jobs do allow me to have free time to read, which I LOVE! My roommate is just finishing up her grad program to become a librarian and she was the one who introduced me to Goodreads!

After signing up, I searched for some groups to join and came across the SRC. I have tried book clubs in the past but the members wanted to discuss their personal lives instead of the actual book. So I am looking forward to reading about what everyone else is reading! I had a habit of buying books in college but never read them so I am now getting through my collection. I was so happy that most of the books I already own fit the task descriptions:)

Thank you the all the moderators for putting together this challenge!

message 950: by Angie (new)

Angie (angelitabonita) Hi all, my name is Angie. I'm 31 years old and I live in Brooklyn, NY. I walk dogs for a living so I love listening to audiobooks all day. I have so many favorite books but a few are "The Cat Who..series by Lilian Jackson Braun, "Teashop Mystery" series by Laura Childs, books by Walter Moers.
I used to do these challenges when it was going on the TNBBC page. Forgot all about it till I was going through my books and saw the reading challenge listed on there. Can't wait to join in on the fun and get some new books read for the summer.
