Hi guys,

I'm Sean. Nice to be here. This group looks interesting.

Jodi Gilroy (jodigilroy) | 96 comments Hi. My name is Jodi and I am from North Carolina. I am an avid reader, both for pleasure and as a part of my job. I am a second grade teacher and the best part of my job is teaching my students to love reading!

I joined Goodreads when my sister-in-law recommended that it was a great place to meet other readers. I have invited the rest of my reading club to join as well. I just started the September reading challenge and am excited to start my first Fall Reading Challenge.

message 753: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Group
I just signed up for this group, since it sounds like we will have a lot of variety in our reading choices. I guess this is where you tell something about yourself .I am 53, 3 grown kids, 7 grandkids .Housewife .Married for 34 years .Live in the same town I have lived my whole life .
I have always loved to read .I like just about any type of books. I'm not much into romance or scifi, but have no problem with anyone else who likes them. We all enjoy different things .That's what makes life interesting .
Well, I'm off to read the rules regarding this season's books. I know I have one of them already .
Will be fun to give this a shot, I think !

Jessiebee | 39 comments Hi everyone, my name is Jessica and I am 24 years old. I was an avid reader as a child, and lately I've been interested in rekindling that passion. I found the GoodReads site through Google, and I thought this would be a fun way to get back into reading!

message 755: by Almeta (last edited Oct 03, 2011 10:47AM) (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) I come from a family that loves books. Ripped jackets, dog-eared pages, coffee rings and fingerprint pizzas stains are a sacrilege. As a consequence, if you wish to borrow one of my books, you will have to leave your first born as a security deposit!

As a teen, I thought I had more important things to do than read. But my mother had a floor to ceiling, wall to wall bookcase full of New York Times best seller fiction. In the eighties (now a full grown adult) I dug in. Started alphabetically with Douglas Adams, Richard Adams, ended at Gore Vidal, Kurt Vonnegut...you get the picture?

I think that I have read every thing that is available by Stephen King, and am always seeking, without success, the other author that can engage me as well as he can. I mostly look for mysteries and thrillers in the library, but some of my favorite books are not of that genre.

I and two others volunteer to keep a library in order for a senior citizen complex.

I love the idea of this challenge group. I expect it to send me to parts of the Plymouth Michigan library that I most likely would not visit on my own.

The tasks set for the Fall season are quite diverse. I hope that I can get it done in the remaining two months!

Welcome to the challenge, Almeta. Please don't forget to post in the Readerboard Names thread (http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...) to get added to the Readerboard.

You can claim books that you've read since the beginning of September - you don't have to have read them since joining the challenge, only since the challenge began on September 1.

It's a good idea to read through the Rules of the Challenge and the posting requirements, as they contain much information to help you get off to a good start!

Thanks for the welcome.

I am glad you pointed out that I may have books read in September that might fit the challenge criteria. I'll go take a look.

First, I will go to the ReaderBoard!

message 758: by Debra (last edited Oct 06, 2011 07:27PM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) I'm here because my sister, Almeta (see message 777), told me about it. I'm EXCITED! Wow, what a great idea... I think I'll be having a lot more fun on GR now.

Ok... my sister and I share the same love and respect for the written word and the books they are packaged in. We love acquiring first editions for our libraries and take great care not to damage them. We are PICKY about our books and rarely loan them.

Anyway, about me. Ok... my name is Debra. I live in Westland, Michigan with my hubby, Jeff, and our sweet kitty, Lucy. Lucy likes to cuddle up with me while I'm reading. Perhaps she is reading along with me when she's laying on my pillow and watching over my shoulder!

Jeff gives me plenty of alone time to read, read, read and play on GR. He watches TV and I do my thing.

I'm the horror fan in my family and Stephen King is my all-time favorite author. I've read great books, but no one has matched King's down-to-earth, come-in-and-sit-down-while-I-tell-you-a-story demeanor King has. He's a born story teller.

Other genres I enjoy are mystery-thrillers, fantasy, and just about anything that is the essence of great story-telling. But give me a good thriller or chiller and I'm a very happy camper.

I guess that's it for now! Time to check out the challenges!

Debra

Ingrid Hello everyone!! I'm Ingrid. I just stumbled upon this group and thought I would check it out. I am a stay at home mom of 2 boys and a girl. I love reading anything that will hold my attention. I'm new to challenges and am excited to find out about them.

message 760: by Jessica (last edited Nov 04, 2011 09:10AM) (new)

Jessica (sureshot26) | 745 comments Not so much an introduction as a reintroduction for me (Jessica PDX) - I participated in the first few seasons but have been away for a while working on the incubation/mothering of the precocious little reader to the left there. It's hilarious to me that she's not even mobile yet but already showing the early signs of genetic bibliomania.

I'm a fairly omnivorous reader but have a special love for mysteries and British authors. I love doing the challenges because it's both a puzzle (seeing how I can get books I want to read to fit the tasks) and a nudge to get out of my comfort zone and try new things.

I also recently acquired a Kindle after much deliberation, and have swiftly fallen in love with this magical device. As a result, I now typically have three books going at once - an ebook (commuting), an audiobook (walking/gym), and a book-book (at home).

Now it's off to see how well I can line up what I've already read this season to the current challenge and start getting my ducks in a row to fully participate starting next month.

Welcome back, Jessica!

message 762: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi,
My name is Rebecca. I'm a 26 year old, stay at home mom with 7 year old twin boys.
I've always loved reading, but since I've joined Goodreads, I've been motivated to keep at it more. I'm looking forward to joining this challenge and widen my reading spectrum. I tend to stick with 1 author I like and reading all their works before moving on the next. I think it would be good to jump around a little.

message 763: by Lindsay (last edited Nov 11, 2011 10:43AM) (new)

Lindsay (bookscoffeesleep) | 24 comments Hi everyone! My name is Lindsay, 23 years old and from Cincinnati, Ohio. I have a part time job in a restaurant and hope to start college in the spring majoring in pre-med and psychology.

I don't have a large book collection at the moment but I'm definitely excited to make it grow. My tastes might be a little unusual, I like to read romance, fantasy, non-fictional psychology, as well as fictional. However in fictional psychology, I gravitate mostly towards one of two things, stories which blur the lines between dreams and reality, or stories in which a character deals with a mental disorder (I particularly love reading books with a character who has a split personality). I tend to find it rather hard to find many books that fit my psychological fiction tastes, so I'm always interested in recommendations, especially for that category.

I'm very very new to goodreads, but I always wanted to join a book club and I felt this was a great place to start! Perfect motivation for finding new books to read. :)

message 764: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (sureshot26) | 745 comments Lindsay, I think you'd probably enjoy Sophie Hannah - she's a British author who writes novels that feature unreliable narrators who leave you guessing as to what's true and what's not. Another one I've read recently that might be a good fit is Before I Go to Sleep, which features a narrator that loses her short-term memory whenever she sleeps. I really enjoy both authors and the stories are incredibly creative.

Thank you for the recommendations! I'll be sure to check out Sophie Hannah, and I think I remember reading the description of Before I Go to Sleep just a few days ago, I should probably want to read that.

message 766: by Emily (last edited Nov 15, 2011 08:54PM) (new)

Emily (epryer) | 0 comments Hi Everyone! I am Emily and I currently live in Vermont, but was born & raised in the SF Bay Area. I am happily married to my husband, Nick for the past 17 years. We have two teenage daughters, plus our newest family member - a teenage girl from Switzerland, who is living with us this school year.

For the past 7 years, I have worked as an early educator out of a child care that is operated in my home. It is an extremely rewarding profession - I wouldn't want to do anything else! The kids bring such joy to my life! : )

I have been an avid reader since 6th grade. Always had my nose in a book and it is still true. So many books to read - just not enough time to read them all!

I love being apart of a book club. It is fascinating to share a good book with others. I look forward to getting to know

message 767: by MJ (new)

MJ | 130 comments Hi Everyone. I'm MJ, and I'm currently reading from Florida's Treasure Coast. I recently graduated from law school and am on the hunt for full time employment. In the meantime, I've got plenty of time for books - not that I ever don't make time for books.

I'm looking forward to figuring out this whole seasonal challenge thing and reading some great books.

message 768: by Ann A (last edited Nov 27, 2011 08:45PM) (new)

Ann A (readerann) | 1091 comments Hi, fellow reading addicts! I've been eyeing this group for days, wondering if I could make a dent in the intimidating Winter Task list since I'm not a very fast reader. I decided it looked like too much fun to resist giving it a try! I work part-time from home, have one daughter away at college, another in high school, and a husband who travels a lot. I usually have quite a bit of time to read, so I can't wait to get started on this challenge. I was very impressed by the creativity of the tasks!

message 769: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 50 comments Hi.

I'm Vikki, 25, from Northern Ireland. Young, free and single at the moment, which suits me ok. I have enough going on without trying to find time to see a guy. I have 2 dogs who are total opposites personality wise. I recently qualified as a barrister but won't be taking my own cases until March - at the moment it's still "learning the ropes" time. I'm hoping to specialise in criminal law.

I've always loved reading for as long as I can remember. I've quite varied tastes, and am always happy to curl up with a good book and loose myself for a while.

message 770: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristilarson) | 548 comments Hello everyone, I am Kristi. I was born and raised in North Dakota, but have lived in Colorado since 1997. I am currently single, but that makes more time for reading. I work as a chemist, but sometimes wonder if I shouldn't have been a librarian! I am in two F2F book clubs, but the other members are not nearly as serious about reading as I am. I have so many unread books on my shelves and on my Kindle, and I need some inspiration to get through them all. The task list is a little overwhelming, but this challenge is right up my alley and should help me get through the winter!

message 771: by Darlene (new)

Darlene | 35 comments Hi, everyone! My name is Darlene, and I'm a Reading Challenge Addict! Now, that doesn't mean that I always complete the challenges that I join...rather, I can't resist joining challenges! When I stumbled upon this one at Goodreads, I immediately joined.

Whoa! I am so overwhelmed! This is not like any other challenge I have ever seen!! It looks very complicated. Is there a SRC 101 for Newbies? LOL!

I guess I'll just start wading through the moderator posts and try to figure my way around! I have already requested my name to be added to the Readerboard.

I prefer listening to audiobooks whenever I can so that I can multi-task, as my "sitting down" reading time is minimal.

Looking forward to hopping aboard with you all!

message 773: by Maureen (last edited Dec 05, 2011 04:06PM) (new)

Maureen (maureencean) Hello, my name is Maureen, and I love to read. Sounds like the start of some sort of 12-step meeting doesn't it? At least we all admit it :~). I don't often read non-fiction, and with the exception of Janet Evanovich am not typically drawn to the wildly popular. I started a book club after I read The Help and had to find people to talk to about it. I have done the vampire thing in the past, am pretty much recovered, LOL. Have especially enjoyed historical fiction for the past year or so, and have been drawn to the Holocaust. And I think Goodreads is the neatest thing since sliced bread. I was referred to this group by a member of another group when I groused that the typical monthly challenge was too daunting for me between work, family and my own club. Oh my, I ran on...nice to meet you!

message 774: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone, I'm Jennifer (I noticed there weren't enough Jens, Jenns, Jennis and Jennifers on the Readerboard, so I thought I'd add another...hehehe). I think a group designed for challenges is a great idea. I'm looking forward to participating.

message 775: by Marina (new)

Marina (marina1709) | 27 comments Hey guys! I realized I haven't introduced myself yet even though I'm new, so here's something about me. :)

My name is Marina, and I'm from Croatia. I'm a college student, writer, movie and TV junkie and someone who gets distracted by the Web far to easily. So many things out there, so little time left to read. ;)

That's why I joined this place. Hopefully, the challenge will get me to read more. AND I'll meet some awesome people.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) Hi, my name is jennbunny (nickname my friends gave me). I am 39 years old and just moved to Melbourne Florida. I love to read and read....my taste varies, but mostly I love horror. I am a book addict!

I am currently in college and plan on getting a degree in Marine Biology someday. My kids are grown and gone. I don't have a job right now as I just quit so we could move for my husband's job. Turtles are a passion of mine....I have five aquatic turtles (and a few fish).

Sam | 174 comments Hi. My name is Sam, I'm 35 & married with 3 children. I live just outside London, UK & I am the manager of my local library which is the best job in the world.
My favourite genre is Crime/thriller but I have been broadening my reading lately & delved in YA & fantasy.
I'm looking forward to joining in with this challenge although it might take me a little while to get my head around it all.

message 779: by Debsp (new)

Debsp Hi my name is Deb. I have two hobbies that I love: reading and cycling! Since it is too cold here in Canada to cycle, it frees up more time for reading! I read a variety of fiction and I am looking forward to trying some of these challenges!

message 780: by Kelli (new)

Kelli Robinson (kellifrobinson) My name is Kelli and I live in Birmingham, Alabama. I practice law and listen almost exclusively to unabridged audiobooks (and have been for 10+ years) since my profession is chock full of reading. I am, however, hoping to work through some books on my shelves at home in 2012 while continuing to listen to audiobooks with the encouragement of the Seasonal Reading Challenge.

Michael (book_nerd1991) Hi my name is Michael Jenkins, I live in Arlington Texas and I am a book nerd. I love reading all kinds of books, anything from romance to mystery. I am not as picky with books, but it depends on the type of book.

The ironic thing is that I use to hate reading when I was little, but now I can`t stop reading. I cannot wait to participate in this challenge, I love how detailed the description was.

Looking forward to participating.

CalledJenny | 3 comments Hello! My name is Jennifer, I'm an italian engineering student with a passion for books :)! I love reading everything but in the 2012 I promise myself to explore the romance gendre - almost unknown to me :)! I'm a challenge-holic too, so I know that this will be one of my favourite groups here on GoodReads :D!
I love animals, foreign languages, graphics, web design, cooking and last but not least meet people all over the world :D!

Beth (Beth~a~holic) (bethaholic) Hi! My name is Beth. I live in Sacramento, California (the so-called capital, but San Francisco is so gorgeous that it deserves the title again). I am (cover your eyes and don't read this next part...) 38 years old (ok you can now uncover your eyes). I don't accept that 40 is around the corner. I much prefer to be 30 forever! *yes I am in denial!* I've lived in Oregon most of my adult life, was raised in Colorado and was born in Ohio. So I feel like a world traveler even though I rarely go anywhere.

Currently I am unemployed (it actually feels good to say that for a change) after having a fast paced job at a call center as a trainer, quality control and analyst and recently was laid off due to the company lost the contract I was assigned to. I'll be back to work in a couple of months but I am taking severence pay to spend time with family, relax, and catch up on reading.

My main hobby is cross stitch, of which I've done since I was in my early teens. I started really enjoying reading when my daughter (who is now 20) was little and we used to read Little House on the Prairie books together. My reading enjoyment has now expanded as I've grown older and I read pretty much anything. By being on goodreads the last few months, I've learned that all genres of books are fun to explore.

I'm married, w/two kids (20yr old daughter, 4yr old son) and a slew of animals (4 dogs, 2 cats, a cockatoo and a fish tank) and rarely is it quiet in my house. However, when it is I like to crawl up in bed and read and book on my Kindle.

I look forward to joining this challenge and keeping me motivated.

message 787: by Beth (new)

Beth Hello all, I'm Beth. I'm from England and am a 22 year old law student, also caring for my Grandma (not to mention my 3 cats and 2 dogs).

Hmm, what to say about me? I guess I'd describe myself as a feminist, socialist lesbian and my two passions in life and reading and horror movies.

My Mum used to be a librarian so I have loved to read for as long as I can remember. My favourite thing to read is crime fiction, but I will give anything a go and I usually enjoy it! (With the exception of romance, I just can't get on with that genre)

I'm so glad I found this challenge, I can think of nothing better than curling up with a book (or my new eReader, I think it's love) and winning points for doing so!

message 788: by Paula (last edited Jan 28, 2012 06:37PM) (new)

Paula (paularo) | 2 comments Hello to the Seasonal Challenge! My name is Paula and live in the Pacific Northwest. I'm going on 60, teach 9th grade Language Arts, and think this challenge will be my mind candy with a focus.

I read all the time but get into ruts. I live with a pretty established routine between teaching and home life and I am looking forward to adding something new plus challenging;). My cat, P.D. (short for Pavlov's Dog due to her drooling problem), kept pushing the send button while I was pondering joining the Seasonal Challenge. I've taken it as a sign.

The current Winter Challenge means I will read Leviathan (Leviathan, #1)by Scott Westerfeld which would not be a first choice for me. I've already read both the other novels, Beekeeper's Apprentice and Color Purple. I am going to have to figure out the challenges and how to post my points. So here's to a good new book and challenging my friends to join in!

message 792: by Deana (new)

Deana (ablotial) | 276 comments Hello! I've popped in a few times and checked out this group, and finally decided I should just go ahead and join.

I am 28, married, living in Maryland since October. Before that I was in Texas for 8 years for school, but I was born and raised in downeast Maine. Sadly I don't have as much time for reading as I used to, but I still enjoy challenges and I like the idea of this group because it's possible to do well with a high-ish number of points without reading 50 books in a single month. A lot of challenges just give you one point per book which just means those who don't read as much, or who read long books, are at a serious disadvantage.

I'm looking forward to participating!

message 793: by Lavinia (new)

Lavinia (platinumwarlock) Hi everyone! My name is Lavinia, I turn 45 next week, and I live in the Seattle area. I'm a stay-at-home mom of a charming ten-year-old boy and a not-quite-two-year-old black Labrador Retriever. I am very amicably divorced from my son's dad, so amicably in fact that when he wanted to apply to graduate school in Washington DC, we decided that all three of us would move there if he was accepted (which he was), so we're moving across the country in June for about 15 months.

I've been an avid reader since I taught myself to read with "T'was The Night Before Christmas" when I was 3 or 4. My paternal grandmother was the epic reader in the family - she read fast and constantly - and there's no doubt that I inherited her genes. I initially joined Goodreads a year or two ago in order to use it as a catalog of my own library, and then I started exploring Groups a few weeks ago, and now I'm totally and thoroughly hooked. And this Challenge thing...! Did Goodreads members come up with this idea, or have people always done this? And how did I not know about it?! I'm rather intimidated about doing something more complex than "read 100 books in a year", but I'm certainly willing to give it a try.

In addition to reading and chasing the ten-year-old from pillar to post (while dragging the dog along behind), I also enjoy beading, quilting, needlework, and indulging in my long-time addiction of World of Warcraft, an online role-playing game. I'm a proud geek and have almost as much fun with computers and gadgets as I do with books.

I look forward to the challenge and to getting to know at least a few of you through our mutual love of books!

Elizabeth Stultz (NecroticCreepShow) | 1 comments I'm Elizabeth and I'm 23. I live in Louisville, KY. I just recently graduated from college with a degree in Psychology and two minors in English with a concentration in Literature and Medieval Studies. I am going back to school this summer to obtain my nursing degree.

Aside from that, I love to read. I currently own more than 1000 books on a variety of different subjects in 5 different languages. I also own around 200-300 books on my Kindle (most of which are freebies, haha). I enjoy reading classics but I also like historical fiction, poetry, mysteries (especially Agatha Christie), horror/thrillers, sci-fi, and fantasy.

Bouchra Rebiai (bouchrarebiai) | 97 comments Hi everybody!

I found this group when I was looking for some reading challenges. I'm excited to do some of the challenges in the Winter, and hopefully I can do better in the Spring.

I'm Bouchra, and I'm 18. I live in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I'm Algerian, and my mum is from Sri Lanka. I have been bilingual in both Arabic and English ever since I can remember. I'm homeschooled, and I'm currently catching up with high school, which got paused due to some issues. I hope to be in the US for college in fall 2013.

I love reading, writing, traveling and learning new languages, and doing interesting things.

My name is Jennifer. I graduated from undergrad in may and got married in June and am currently working in a library. I am trying to figure out how getting my Masters in Library Sciences will fit into my future budgets, so right now I have a lot of time for reading.

I like challenges because they give me reading goals. I have been watching the winter challenge updates and just knew I had to join in the fun! So here I am!
