INTRODUCTIONS

I'm hoping to get a few reads for this Spring Reading Challenge. I am working on my diploma for Medical Billing and Coding, and expect to complete all my work in June 2011--just a few more months to go. I do a lot of driving back and forth to school, so I get my reading time in by listening to books for approximately 8 hours/wk. Hopefully, some of the books I have on audio or I can get from the library will fit into the challenge.

I'm really excited to use the challenge to get back into reading. I've also recently discovered my love for audiobooks (I'm becoming my father more and more everyday). I love to play video games and am an admitted achievement whore, so I'm loving the "achievements" of the SRC and I'm looking forward to getting every one.

I love reading any and every book that I can get my hands on. I recently just finished reading The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo and loved the book. I can understand why it was such a big hit. I stumbled on this group after signing up for GR and read some of the reviews and books and found this was the group I would like to discuss great books with.
Thanks, Britt

I work for the US Army, though I'm not in the military myself (my father was, so I'm familiar with the life). I recently moved to Kentucky with my job and I'm very happy here.

I am 45, married with two kids in college. I quit working back in 2007 to enjoy my kids last few years at home.
This has given me a lot of time to begin reading again. I bought a Kindle in February and am really liking the convenience.
I just found all the different reading challenges a few weeks ago. They are encouraging me to branch out of my comfort genres into books I wouldn't have chosen on my own.

I taught myself to read when I was about 4. The story I hear most often (from my mother) is - "I was driving home from the grocery store with you in the backseat and you looked at a billboard and read it to me. I thought you had just memorized it, so we went home and I handed you a book to read and you picked it up and started chugging along!" And the rest, as they say, is history!

I'm Mercy, i'm a 21 year old college student, which means i barely have time to squeeze in some reading amid all of the homework and required class reading there is. But I love reading and I hope i can join in the Spring fun, albeit a little late :).
I am Cameroonian (Central Africa), but I've been in the US for the last three years and one of the things I just Love is the free public libraries and all the awesome free books:D

Favorite reads include historical/biographical, good non-fictions, Harry Potter, Jane Austen, Toni Morrison, Odd Thomas, and occassional breaks to enjoy a really good trashy novel! This particular group sounded like a good one to motivate and keep me challenged to broaden my reading.
Hello! I'm Jayne, 18 years old and a soon-to-be university student, providing my grades are all okay this August. :) I've been hiding in the background since winter, so I figured it was about time I came and said hello and maybe joined in with the challenge properly.
I'm adding my voice to all the others who've said they love the challenge - the tasks are so creative, and I love finding books that fit them. It's also a great way to clear off my overflowing bookshelf!

Welcome, Diana. This overview of how the challenge works might help. Enjoy!

I decided to join this challenge to help me focus my reading better, since I have trouble deciding what to read next. I definitely don't expect to finish a lot of tasks (especially joining so late), but I do hope to have a good time! :)

Between now and September I have summer class finals, a friend's wedding, my own wedding reception (since we had a destination wedding), visiting in-laws, and hopefully moving/getting a couple roommates, and beginning my first "full" semester as a grad student. So I'm really hoping to join in the fall challenge since I'd drive myself bonkers if I started the summer challenge this late. I'm hoping that by joining this challenge, I can get some great book recommendations and also read things a bit out of my usual literary comfort zone! I look forward to challenging with you all! :)

I know this is the last month of this season's challenge but I have all my other challenge reads logged for June & July so I'm going to go back to see what fits. I'm such a geek/addict that I track it all on spreadsheets!
Looking forward to stretching even more with fun new tasks.

Wow Randi from your intro I don't see how you even have time to BUY the books let alone read them!
KarenF - I'm with you, challenges are great. In the summer challenge alone I found probably 8 new authors that now I want go back and read their entire list of books. One of them is Michelle Moran - I loved the group read of Madame Toussaud.
Don't feel bad about the spreadsheet thing either. Lots of us put excel to great use keeping track of what we have read. That is what it was invented for isn't it?

My mom is a librarian, so I've always had access to books, but now that we live hundreds of miles apart, it's harder for me to find things to read. The culture of Guatemala is not very focused on reading, so I joined Goodreads to help me find some great books. Luckily I will be going back to the US every once in a while to get some new reading material, as books are hard to find and very expensive here. I've never done a reading challenge before, but I'm excited to start!

I'm not sure if I would want a Kindle or a Nook, though, because I think I would get addicted to buying things and on a teacher salary in a developing country, I don't have a huge book budget. Also, I just love the feeling or holding a book and turning the pages, and I don't know if I would like the different feeling of holding a screen. I'll try it someday!

Salem, Read about your problem getting books and no libraries in your area. I would have no problem sending you books I finish that I buy for the challenge. Once you read them, perhaps you could find a way to share them with others there in Antigua. If you would like, add me as a friend or send me a message with a good mailing address. I hate for a book to go unread after I have finished it.

Hi Salem
like Tami I would be very happy to share books with you the beauty of the seasonal challenges are that if you don't finish all the books on your list for one challenge they can often be used for the next one. Just private message me if you would like me to send some stuff off every now and again. Its nice to share

I read about everything, although chicklit and science-fiction aren't my thing most of the time. And sometimes I just don't get Japanese literature.
One day I hope to do something with books (sell them, publish them, translate them, anything.)
I look forward to the Fall challenge!
Welcome everyone! Please take a look at The Seasonal Challenge- An Overview before you begin the challenge. And make sure you get a Readerboard name at Readerboard Names. We need that step to get you into our database. Thanks!

My name is Rho but I go by Sassafrass here on goodreads (It's a long story, so I won't even get into it). I'm 35 and have been addicted to reading all of my life but only about 3 years ago got the time to start reading again for pleasure.
I've been active here on GR for a while and started doing challenges, and I am now somewhat of an addict. Dee told me about this group, so I decided to give this a try. I've got eclectic tastes and I'll try anything that sounds good.
I look forward to getting to know everyone here and getting into some good challenges!

Our whole family enjoys reading - every Saturday morning, my husband and I take our two daughters (ages 3 and 5) to the library so they can hunt for books and use the computer learning stations. And then every Saturday afternoon, I get to go back to the library all by myself to write in my journal and work on genealogy and other projects.
I ran across this group completely by accident, and I really liked the way the challenges were put together, so here I am!

I found out about this group when I joined MBFBC in the spring. I been studying on how to do your challenge these past months. And I think I'm ready to try the fall challenge.
I'm very excited about all the books I'll be reading to complete the tasks.
Your Group looks like you all have a lot of FUN!!! :oD
Ciao!

I live in North Carolina, have 3 grown daughters and 3 grandchildren, but still find myself wishing for peace and quiet so I can read my books.
I just turned 60, am disabled and reading has saved my psyche many times over the years. Others don't always understand my obsession with books, but I DON'T CARE. I look forward to becoming friends with many of you as we journey worlds unknown together.

Hey, there! Glad you're here - we're going to have a lot of fun with these challenges!

I read all kinds of things. I've always been interested in fiction, mainly British classics, more modern British stuff, light-hearted fantasy, Garrison Keillor novels, a few graphic novels, and sometimes I need a cozy mystery (British or American). My nonfiction reading is predominantly history and while it is mostly British history, I've been branching out.
So, I'm hoping for a fun fall of beautiful weather, and getting through more of my TBR list with this group! :)

Yes, I probably won't score as well on 5 separate challenges, but overall, I'll learn more, make more friends and read more of what I like. Can't wait for 9/1. It's really amazing that some contestants have already picked out all their books. I haven't even figured out HOW on some of the tasks. But that's the meaning of challenge, yeah?

My name is Tea (pronounced "Tay-ah" phonetically). I am in the western United States and finishing a bachelors degree online. I am not sure how to use this site but I am trying to get familiar with it. I love reading and I am always with a book in hand or on my Kindle reader. I will try to participate in the spring challenge--as long as I can figure it out :)
