Tea (teamolino) | 3 comments Hi everyone; old and new!
My name is Tea (pronounced "Tay-ah" phonetically). I am in the western United States and finishing a bachelors degree online. I am not sure how to use this site but I am trying to get familiar with it. I love reading and I am always with a book in hand or on my Kindle reader. I will try to participate in the spring challenge--as long as I can figure it out :)

Carrie (goodreadscomkeridwynn) | 185 comments Hi all. I'm actually not new, but an old member, just have been inactive for a while. I completed the Fall 2009 challenge, which was also my first challenge. For all of you starting here and it's your first time, I'd like to say just how fun it was. The challenges are wonderfully thought up and creative!

I'm hoping to get a few reads for this Spring Reading Challenge. I am working on my diploma for Medical Billing and Coding, and expect to complete all my work in June 2011--just a few more months to go. I do a lot of driving back and forth to school, so I get my reading time in by listening to books for approximately 8 hours/wk. Hopefully, some of the books I have on audio or I can get from the library will fit into the challenge.

Amanda (amandapearl) | 267 comments Hello! I am Amanda and I'm 23 years old and I just graduated from college with a degree in electrical engineering. I currently work for a company designing jet engines (not as cool as it sounds, trust me). As a kid I read all the time, but then in college I was too busy reading text books to read for fun. My favorite genres are science fiction, fantasy, and thriller/horror.

I'm really excited to use the challenge to get back into reading. I've also recently discovered my love for audiobooks (I'm becoming my father more and more everyday). I love to play video games and am an admitted achievement whore, so I'm loving the "achievements" of the SRC and I'm looking forward to getting every one.

message 704: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Richards Hi everyone! My name is Brittany. I live in a small town called Columbus, Indiana which is south of Indianapolis. I recently just graduated college for Event Management and just got a full time job with Cummins Engine Company as a project coordinator.

I love reading any and every book that I can get my hands on. I recently just finished reading The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo and loved the book. I can understand why it was such a big hit. I stumbled on this group after signing up for GR and read some of the reviews and books and found this was the group I would like to discuss great books with.

Thanks, Britt

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 855 comments Hi, my is Christina. I've recently discovered these groups, though I've been a member of GR for a few years now. I've been lurking here a few days, seeing how this challenge works. I think I understand the nuts and bolts of it enough to jump in a join the fun.

I work for the US Army, though I'm not in the military myself (my father was, so I'm familiar with the life). I recently moved to Kentucky with my job and I'm very happy here.

Teresa Jo (teresajo) | 246 comments Hi everyone.

I am 45, married with two kids in college. I quit working back in 2007 to enjoy my kids last few years at home.

This has given me a lot of time to begin reading again. I bought a Kindle in February and am really liking the convenience.

I just found all the different reading challenges a few weeks ago. They are encouraging me to branch out of my comfort genres into books I wouldn't have chosen on my own.

Danie (heyydanie) | 58 comments Hey all, I'm Danie. I'm a 21 year old girl living in New York - no, not the Big Apple (which is what most people think right away), some tiny little rinky-dink town. But I'm engaged to an amazing man in the Air Force, so I'm moving to Oklahoma City to be closer to him in about 4 weeks.

I taught myself to read when I was about 4. The story I hear most often (from my mother) is - "I was driving home from the grocery store with you in the backseat and you looked at a billboard and read it to me. I thought you had just memorized it, so we went home and I handed you a book to read and you picked it up and started chugging along!" And the rest, as they say, is history!

message 711: by Mercy (new)

Mercy | 10 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Mercy, i'm a 21 year old college student, which means i barely have time to squeeze in some reading amid all of the homework and required class reading there is. But I love reading and I hope i can join in the Spring fun, albeit a little late :).
I am Cameroonian (Central Africa), but I've been in the US for the last three years and one of the things I just Love is the free public libraries and all the awesome free books:D

Noreen (reensreads) | 1 comments Hi! My name is Noreen and I am a newbie, just joined the group today. And I just want to say "Thank you !" Cynthia this is a great idea! I love it. I am a little lost and trying to learn the "rules" but excited to be part of this group and I looking forward to participating in the Summer 2011 Challenge! Looking forward to reading new authors and making new friends!

message 714: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1 comments Hi, Joy from Mesquite, TX, and another newbie to the group.I'm with some of the others here on trying to learn all the rules and details of the challenges! I am a music teacher (flute), reader, quilter, animal lover, and Memaw to 4 beautiful grandsons.

Favorite reads include historical/biographical, good non-fictions, Harry Potter, Jane Austen, Toni Morrison, Odd Thomas, and occassional breaks to enjoy a really good trashy novel! This particular group sounded like a good one to motivate and keep me challenged to broaden my reading.

Hello! I'm Jayne, 18 years old and a soon-to-be university student, providing my grades are all okay this August. :) I've been hiding in the background since winter, so I figured it was about time I came and said hello and maybe joined in with the challenge properly.

I'm adding my voice to all the others who've said they love the challenge - the tasks are so creative, and I love finding books that fit them. It's also a great way to clear off my overflowing bookshelf!

message 716: by Kim (new)

Kim D’Arcy | -1 comments Hi Everyone! My name is Kim and I am 40-years old and from Long Island, New York. I am the proud mother of two beautiful girls, ages (very soon to be)14 and 11. I work part-time as an e-commerce programmer and my kid's both have very busy schedules but I always make sure to find time for reading, (who needs to sleep anyway?). I read all genres of fiction and a wide variety of authors. My latest kick is historical fiction. I just finished "The Winter Sea" by Susanna Kearsley and LOVED it!! I am fairly new to this site and this is my first challenge. I hope I can get all the rules straight because I love the concept!

Reading, especially by the ocean in summer, is the thing that allows me to survive the work I do. I found this group interesting and I like self challenge, so look forward to the enjoyment.

message 720: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 910 comments Hi - I'm Laurie. I've been a member of GR since the end of Feb and have been looking for various groups that provide reading challenges. I'm a voracious reader and am looking for challenges to get me out of my little reading rut (mysteries and/or romantic suspence).

message 721: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) | 587 comments Hello, everyone! I'm Angie and I'm new to GoodReads. I'm a 21 year old full-time student, studying Environmental Science & Management.

I decided to join this challenge to help me focus my reading better, since I have trouble deciding what to read next. I definitely don't expect to finish a lot of tasks (especially joining so late), but I do hope to have a good time! :)

message 722: by Amanda B. (new)

Amanda B. | 112 comments Hello everyone! I have just re-joined the group, I was a member last year and did the Fall challenge and decided I missed it and wanted to do the seasonal challenge again. :)

message 723: by Randi (new)

Randi (mrsrandimoulton) | 254 comments Hi everybody! I'm Randi and I am new to GR. I'm a 23 year old full-time grad student getting my MAT in Secondary English Education. I did my BA in English, so I'm definitely a bookaholic. ;) In fact...my husband teases me about buying more books than anyone could possibly need. I probably haven't read half of the books I own! (Yet.) I really enjoy fantasy, historical fiction, YA fiction, books about other cultures/ethnic groups, and memoir, though I'll read just about anything! A few of my all-time favorite books include Jane Eyre, Little Women, the Thursday Next series, and the Sookie Stackhouse series.

Between now and September I have summer class finals, a friend's wedding, my own wedding reception (since we had a destination wedding), visiting in-laws, and hopefully moving/getting a couple roommates, and beginning my first "full" semester as a grad student. So I'm really hoping to join in the fall challenge since I'd drive myself bonkers if I started the summer challenge this late. I'm hoping that by joining this challenge, I can get some great book recommendations and also read things a bit out of my usual literary comfort zone! I look forward to challenging with you all! :)

message 724: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 266 comments Hi everyone! I'm Karen and I live in Massachusetts. I've been on GR for about a year and I've become completely addicted to reading challenges. I've always been addicted to reading but the challenges have introduced me to new authors and new genres and I'm never at a loss for "what to read next".

I know this is the last month of this season's challenge but I have all my other challenge reads logged for June & July so I'm going to go back to see what fits. I'm such a geek/addict that I track it all on spreadsheets!

Looking forward to stretching even more with fun new tasks.

message 725: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments Welcome to the challenge Randi and KarenF!

Wow Randi from your intro I don't see how you even have time to BUY the books let alone read them!

KarenF - I'm with you, challenges are great. In the summer challenge alone I found probably 8 new authors that now I want go back and read their entire list of books. One of them is Michelle Moran - I loved the group read of Madame Toussaud.

Don't feel bad about the spreadsheet thing either. Lots of us put excel to great use keeping track of what we have read. That is what it was invented for isn't it?

message 726: by Jodi (new)

Jodi Ambrose (jodiambrose) | 1 comments Hi! I'm a brand new author on the site and am trying to connect to others on goodreads. So far, it's just wonderful! Please feel free to check out my book. I'd love to know what you think. :) Happy reading!

message 727: by Randi (new)

Randi (mrsrandimoulton) | 254 comments Thanks, Sheila! :) The past two weeks have been the calm before the storm, so I've been reading like crazy. I think I've read about 10 books in the last two weeks. I'm loving the free time for now! I look forward to fitting in reading during grad school since hopefully it will help me maintain my sanity!

message 728: by Salem (last edited Aug 13, 2011 11:01AM) (new)

Salem | 43 comments Hi everyone. I'm Salem and I'm a 23 year old teacher in Antigua Guatemala. I teach English as a second language to kindergarteners. It's a challenge, but a lot of fun at the same time. I just started about a month ago, but everything is going great. I'm originally from Michigan and moved to Guatemala in January.

My mom is a librarian, so I've always had access to books, but now that we live hundreds of miles apart, it's harder for me to find things to read. The culture of Guatemala is not very focused on reading, so I joined Goodreads to help me find some great books. Luckily I will be going back to the US every once in a while to get some new reading material, as books are hard to find and very expensive here. I've never done a reading challenge before, but I'm excited to start!

message 729: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments You are absolutely going to love the challenge Salem. Welcome. I was wondering if you had a Kindle or a Nook that you could access books that way? I'm not sure how things work in other countries other than the US.

message 730: by Salem (new)

Salem | 43 comments As of right now, I don't have a kindle or a nook, but I would like to try one. Here we don't have any libraries because all of the books would be stolen. I did bring my own small library, though, and the school I work at has a library, so I can check out books there. Other than that, I have to re-read what I brought.

I'm not sure if I would want a Kindle or a Nook, though, because I think I would get addicted to buying things and on a teacher salary in a developing country, I don't have a huge book budget. Also, I just love the feeling or holding a book and turning the pages, and I don't know if I would like the different feeling of holding a screen. I'll try it someday!

Salem, Read about your problem getting books and no libraries in your area. I would have no problem sending you books I finish that I buy for the challenge. Once you read them, perhaps you could find a way to share them with others there in Antigua. If you would like, add me as a friend or send me a message with a good mailing address. I hate for a book to go unread after I have finished it.

message 732: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 128 comments Hello Everyone! My name is Jackie and I live in North Carolina. I've been a member of Goodreads for about a year but just recently started to get involved in some of the groups. I love to read (of course) and love reading challenges. I'm looking forward to starting the fall challenge in a couple of weeks.

Hi Salem
like Tami I would be very happy to share books with you the beauty of the seasonal challenges are that if you don't finish all the books on your list for one challenge they can often be used for the next one. Just private message me if you would like me to send some stuff off every now and again. Its nice to share

message 734: by Christie (new)

Christie Hi, I'm Christie. I am also living in Guatemala so I also have a hard time finding actual books. But my dad got me a Kindle last Christmas so this has kept me sane by giving me access to pretty much anything I could want. I'm really looking forward to participating in the Fall challenge. I don't know how much time I will have to read, but at least it's fun picking out books for each part of the challenge.

message 735: by Tineke (new)

Tineke (dutch-book) | 0 comments Hi, I'm Tineke. I live in the Netherlands together with my husband and 2-year-old daughter. I'm 23 years old and obviously love to read (who doesn't?) I'm an avid Bookcrosser and just recently started Goodreads for real.
I read about everything, although chicklit and science-fiction aren't my thing most of the time. And sometimes I just don't get Japanese literature.
One day I hope to do something with books (sell them, publish them, translate them, anything.)
I look forward to the Fall challenge!

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 891 comments Ok, I'm going to jump in here. Hello, Everyone!

My name is Rho but I go by Sassafrass here on goodreads (It's a long story, so I won't even get into it). I'm 35 and have been addicted to reading all of my life but only about 3 years ago got the time to start reading again for pleasure.

I've been active here on GR for a while and started doing challenges, and I am now somewhat of an addict. Dee told me about this group, so I decided to give this a try. I've got eclectic tastes and I'll try anything that sounds good.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here and getting into some good challenges!

message 738: by Butterflycager (new)

Butterflycager | 322 comments Hi, everyone. My name is Jules, and I'm a 41-year-old SAHM currently living in Frankfort, KY. I'm totally addicted to reading, Goodreads, and reading challenges. My favorite genres are urban fantasy, historical fiction, historical fantasy, and retold fairy tales.

Our whole family enjoys reading - every Saturday morning, my husband and I take our two daughters (ages 3 and 5) to the library so they can hunt for books and use the computer learning stations. And then every Saturday afternoon, I get to go back to the library all by myself to write in my journal and work on genealogy and other projects.

I ran across this group completely by accident, and I really liked the way the challenges were put together, so here I am!

Diana S | 39 comments Hi! I'm Diana from Texas.
I found out about this group when I joined MBFBC in the spring. I been studying on how to do your challenge these past months. And I think I'm ready to try the fall challenge.
I'm very excited about all the books I'll be reading to complete the tasks.
Your Group looks like you all have a lot of FUN!!! :oD
Ciao!

Luckngrace | 156 comments Hi! I go by luckngrace on GR and saw your challenge noted on my friend Butterflycager's comments that she was joining, so I checked you out and feel that your challenge is the most challenging-looking one that I have seen and immediately wanted to join. I can't put my all into it yet as I am also doing 4 other challenges for Historical Fictionistas, Historical Tour du Genre, Book Addicts and War Through the Generations Civil War Challenge.

I live in North Carolina, have 3 grown daughters and 3 grandchildren, but still find myself wishing for peace and quiet so I can read my books.

I just turned 60, am disabled and reading has saved my psyche many times over the years. Others don't always understand my obsession with books, but I DON'T CARE. I look forward to becoming friends with many of you as we journey worlds unknown together.

Hey, there! Glad you're here - we're going to have a lot of fun with these challenges!

message 742: by Cassie (new)

Cassie | 133 comments Hey everybody! My name is Cassie. I heard about this group in one of my other GR groups, so I thought it would be fun to give it a try! I'm recently out of grad school, and trying to find a job in public history. I love animals. I've got three dogs, who I absolutely love to take care of. My best friend is actually the person who put me onto Good Reads, and I think I spend more time on here than she does these days.

I read all kinds of things. I've always been interested in fiction, mainly British classics, more modern British stuff, light-hearted fantasy, Garrison Keillor novels, a few graphic novels, and sometimes I need a cozy mystery (British or American). My nonfiction reading is predominantly history and while it is mostly British history, I've been branching out.

So, I'm hoping for a fun fall of beautiful weather, and getting through more of my TBR list with this group! :)

Yes, I probably won't score as well on 5 separate challenges, but overall, I'll learn more, make more friends and read more of what I like. Can't wait for 9/1. It's really amazing that some contestants have already picked out all their books. I haven't even figured out HOW on some of the tasks. But that's the meaning of challenge, yeah?

Karen K. Miller (karenkm) | 2 comments My name is Karen. I'm 50 years old. I enjoy reading very much. I've been an avid reader since I was a young child. My parents tell me that at Christmas I would get a book, start reading it and wouldn't open any more of my presents. I would enjoy taking part in the challenges. This seems to be a very diverse group. I think that is great.
