Hi Srividya. Sorry for replying so late. I was on the fence about the iron fey series as well. The synopsis or description didn't really appeal to me. But eventually I gave it a try and I have to say that I don't regret it. The first book was was nice enough but a bit of a drag. The story was interesting but I couldn't really connect to it much. Fortunately the book anded at such a note that I had to read the second book. This one was better than the first I felt and totally worth reading the first book somehow. The third book was amazing. I just finished it last night. These books have endings that make you want to read more. I have yet to read the fourth book and I can hardly wait. So overall try the first book and it might just be worth it. Give it a try.

The daughter of smoke and bone was an exciting tale. Story wise it had an unexpected ending as far as I am concerned. But I was kinda bummed with it all. I was so angry and frustrated with the author that I didn't want to read the second book. It wasn't exactly reasonable. I guess I was just throwing a rare tantrum:D I still haven't read it but I am going to try it out now.

So can't really say if you should read it and but you should try iron fey.

PS: How is Matched?

message 117: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) Thanks Arshiya.. and no worries about late reply and all that.. its absolutely fine :)

Will definitely try the Iron Fey series now.. :) And as for the other one, I don't blame you. All of us have thrown similar tantrums at one point or the other with some book or the other.. So it is absolutely acceptable..

Matched is a series that started very well.. I really liked the first book. It was my first in the YA fantasy series stuff and therefore i guess i liked it. I loved the concept behind the book.. however, the author disappointed with books 2 and 3. 3 was actually okay but I did not like the end much. However, 2 was totally horrible. Although that could be because I went into it expecting a lot and was therefore irritated with the fact that the author disappointed me.. anyway.. I loved the first and liked the third, even with the end.. try it . I would say try the first book and see if it perks your interest. For if it does then you have to read the three books to ensure that you know how it really ends :) :)

I've read the Iron Fey's spin off book (first book). Will try to read second & third book sometime this year as YA are small books. But first book in spin off was okay and her writing was mediocre.

& I also had tried daughter of smoke & bone but was never able to complete it. Didn't liked it.

message 150: by Em Lost In Books (last edited Jun 27, 2014 04:49AM) (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) True. When I read the first book I was expecting lots of magic as it was a fantasy, at that time to me fantasy meant MAGIC. & this was a famous one, you know people are mad about Joe. but there was nothing like that. I was new to fantasy may be thats why I took a lot of time to understand the character and plot development. I think I was expecting magic with every new page. Sadly it never came.

before starting the first book I read few reviews and they're all about Logen, so I mostly waited for Logen's part in the book. I read others too but I wanted to know what made Logen so special to people. So frankly speaking I didn't pay much attention to Glokta, Northmen, Jezal, Bayaz and Ferro. For me it was just Logen for the first time.

When I read the second book which was approximately 2 years later, I was not new to this genre as I was in the case of first book. It is the second book that made me like the characters more.

So in second I paid more attention to every other character, to the smallest one. More I read about them and how they think it made me like these characters more. Be it Northmen trying to fight for Union against Bethod. It was funny to see their reactions to the strategies of Union soldiers. Captain West stand out for in the lot who were facing Bethod.

In Bayaz & party, I think everyone was outstanding except Jezal. I mean Jezal was good too but somehow he fades in front of every other of his companions.

Last but not the least Glokta. If I've to choose a single character that stole my heart in this series it is Glokta. & truly I can't believe that I'm love with this cunning and crippled torturer. His internal dialogues were just too awesome.
