Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments My ratio is rapidly plummeting today. Two approvals for books I really want so can't complain too much but I am probably making things worse by requesting more every time I go on.

Currently keeping fingers and everything else crossed that I get approved for Heartless by Marissa Meyer

message 52: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I haven't really been reading my NetGalleys this month either. Actually, I haven't been reading too much in general. I did just start a NetGalley though, so hopefully I'll be able to add a review soon. I've been good about not requesting at least.

Good luck with Heartless, Alison! That one looks really good. I have a hold on it from my library, but I don't think I'll have time to read it when I expect it to be available..

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Woohoo just got approved for all of my requests including Heartless. Sooo excited. Now I just need to force them into Wobble somehow....

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Yeah me too!! Thanks for letting me know that it was up as something that could be requested, Alison. I've just requested and am now crossing my fingers in hope!

message 57: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Thanks all. Just need to finish my current Netgalley then I'll abandon all plans and start on Heartless.

I didn't spot it at first as there is no cover up. Good luck with your request.

I'm feeling guilty about all of the books added to my shelf this month so trying to balance out with a couple of reviews.

The Killing Game by J.S. Carol review

Dark Water (DCI Erika Foster #3) by Robert Bryndza review

Hopefully a couple more to come soon

Me, too! Well, I'm not sure I feel guilty about it, but I've been reading magazines that piled up and books that have been sitting on my shelf for a long time, now that my percentage is inching closer to 80 percent. I started the month strong.... Hoping to get a review posted tomorrow!

message 66: by Madeline (new)

Madeline (maddyd51) I have a Netgalley question. I received an email about a book (All Our Wrong Todays) and the link said "Request on NetGalley." When I went to go check it out, it said "you've been invited to view this book." I had no idea that I'd been invited and the email I received didn't say that. Most times I click through and have to request it. Is there a place to find invites?

Also, I have had a goal in mind to get pre-approved by publishers, but I don't see that link anymore. Anyone know where that is?

Elizabeth Madeline {Plan to Happy} wrote: "I have a Netgalley question. I received an email about a book (All Our Wrong Todays) and the link said "Request on NetGalley." When I went to go check it out, it said "you've been i..."

It means that you go to the book that it names in your message and download it to review, hope that helps,

message 68: by Madeline (new)

Madeline (maddyd51) But when I got the message, it says nothing about being invited. It said to go request it.

message 69: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Was the email from Netgalley or directly from the publisher? I've had emails from the publisher to tell me about books they think I'd like with a link to request on Netgalley. When I've followed the link I found I was pre approved and could download immediately. I don't think there's any way to find these on Netgalley. I think you're dependant on the email although I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

In terms of getting auto approval from a publisher I think you're dependant on the publisher. I've had cases where I've requested a book posted a review and then been notified I'm auto approved for any other title. In another case I received an email from the publisher to say they were looking for bloggers/reviewers to add to their list for auto approval and to contact them if you're interested.

If you're auto approved there's a link on the left hand side of the find titles page beside read now, most requested etc. I don't think it picks up widgets for particular books you've been sent by the publisher though.

message 70: by Madeline (new)

Madeline (maddyd51) Thanks, Alison! All of that is very helpful.

I think the email was from NetGalley. It had the usual "Request from NetGalley" button at the bottom.

I've gotten an email direct from the publisher and had the same situation occur, where I could download immediately. That was was four books and killed my percentage when I wasn't even sure I wanted to read them!

message 71: by Kristie (last edited Oct 20, 2016 05:37PM) (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments It's looking like I'm only going to finish 1 or maybe 2 more NetGalleys this month for a grand total of 2 or 3 books and I probably won't have time to read any next month because I am moving and won't have much time for physical reading while packing etc.

(Plus, I have a bunch of highly anticipated books from the library that I need to prioritize before I move and have to give them all back. I actually have many more than I can reasonably read before moving and will probably have to get back in the queue at my new library all over again.)

This is a problem for me because there are at least 10 books that I currently want to request, but I probably won't have time to get to them for a couple of months, but my resolve is failing! I've been so good about not requesting... I feel like I need a support group. lol I may just request them all.

message 72: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 738 comments I feel your pain, Kristie! I also have a hard time juggling my NetGalley books and my library books. There are never enough hours in the day to read all I want to, so there's a real need to limit my requests. Keep up your resolve not to order more--you'll be happier about it when you don't have a huge backlog to catch up on.

message 73: by Kristie (last edited Oct 21, 2016 08:07AM) (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Thanks, Connie. :) I caved and requested a few, but at least not all of them.

I got Fat Fridays and The Orphan's Tale.

I have a request in for The Girl in the Garden right now and may add I See You, but I'm trying to be good. lol

My rate is still 89%, so I'm good there, but I do feel bad when I have a bunch that haven't been reviewed. I have 9 on my shelf right now, which will take me a while.

message 74: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I'm back to 4 books on my shelf ,3 of them are nonfiction , and one is a thriller

message 75: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I've gotten to a point with my Netgalley percentage where either a new approved book or a new piece of feedback sent will only effect my percentage 1%. How strange. But I mean, good as well. It means I can't like drop down below 50% unless something really weird goes on.

message 76: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Or you go nuts and request like 50 books :)

I'm at that stage too but finding it difficult to make it up to 80% as a result. Think I need about 9 more reviews to get there but as I keep requesting I'm not optimistic

message 77: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I'm at the same point. I got two new books and my percentage only went down 2%. I agree that it's good, but I'm also a slow reviewer, so it takes forever for it to go back up and just a few minutes for it to go down.

message 78: by Kazen (new)

Kazen I'm glad the publishing world slows down at the end of the year - it's given me a chance to catch up! I also like being able to chip away at ARCs as the mood strikes instead of right before the deadline.

...I'm sure I just jinxed myself by saying that, but for the moment it's nice! ;)

message 79: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Haha. Oh I never actually realised that the publishing world slows down at the end of the year, but I suppose it does make sense...
