Sree | 42 comments Hi there just wondering what do people read as breathers in between grim dark fantasy series to reset their inner emotion-meter?

Recently I've been reading the Percy Jackson series and Dresden files in between John Gwynne's malice & Valour. At times I read popcorn sci fi like jack Campbell lost fleet series.

So just wondering what everyone else reads or if they don't take a break from grim dark at all?

I've largely quit grim dark all together these days.

In the past I've read a lot of it though.

Jim Butcher is a good one though. Not just Dresden that you mentioned, but any of his books.

Discworld books are good. Short and usually pretty funny. Those NPC book we read here were good too.

Suzanne | 1582 comments Great question! I was going to say Discworld as well. I need to read more of the Lost Fleet books too - that's a good reminder - the one I read was pretty fun!

I liked the "So You Want to be a Wizard" series too.

Sky | 1291 comments I like to intersperse my grim dark with some Malazan and election news.

j/k, I read silly manga.

Bill | 1596 comments I go with a Discworld novel when I need some levity. I have had a pretty good rotation of fantasy sub-genres so I haven't overdone any particular one.

Kat | 1178 comments I like a good crime novel inbetween, where I just sit back and enjoy following the police around for clues. Minette Walters is great for that. Also historic fiction and short stories and novellas.

Sree | 42 comments Cool I'll check these out I didn't grow up with prachett so the only disworld I actually liked was the night watch series. Btw what's the NPC book you were talking bout?

Dara (cmdrdara) When I was reading the Malazan series, I had to take a break between each book with something light because they're so dark and depressing.

Combining both crime novel and historical fiction I am planning to go back and read the Cadfael series - I've seen the BBC show but never read the books. The books are nice and short and many are on Kindle Unlimited. A Morbid Taste for Bones

That's been on my radar for quite some time now, but my reading schedule is full. Might get to that next year. Thanks for the reminder!
