SOLVED: Children's/YA > SOLVED. YA Fantasy series. Male main character has a silver streak in his hair. He's forbidden to look in the mirror, it affected his powers or he was royalty. He looks at his reflection in water from a boat. Read around 1995. [s]

Lucas | 15 comments You guys are great, the collective unconscious rules.

I read a series in High School around 1995, it was at least a trilogy. The main character had a silver streak in his hair and if I recall correctly, he was forbidden to look in the mirror for some reason. Either he was royalty or it affected his powers.

I distinctly recall the scene where he looks over the side of the boat and sees his reflection and is startled/fascinated.

I don't have much more to go on, unfortunately.

Lucas | 15 comments I did a search and it's definitely not Twilight Reign, though the plot sounds similar.

A Google book search hit upon this sentence "They named the orphan child Grey Star, because a star is the symbol of hope in the Shianti faith, and because of the silver streak in the child's jet-black hair," in this book: Grey Star the Wizard

Lucas | 15 comments Andria,

Oh this is rough. I read a bunch of Lone Wolf books back in the day too, but I don't think this is it. I don't recall it being a choose your own adventure, but rather an out right trilogy.

Maybe it is, I could be blending things.

:/

Lucas | 15 comments Unfortunately neither. :(

Remember, the latest it could have been published is 1998

Kokomomomo | 62 comments Firedrake is from 1989, Changeling from 1980 - you can see the first publication date in the grey parentheses after the linked edition's pub date. Hope you find your book!

Lucas, are you still looking for this or did you find it?

message 9: by Lucas (new)

Lucas | 15 comments I am still looking, and just did another search attempt, which is what brought me back here haha.

I am pretty convinced now that I either imagined it, or I am blending memories of different books into one.

Lucas, can you tell us more about the main character - e.g., his age, powers, personality, family, friends?

Are there fantastical creatures/characters - e.g., dragons, elves, wizards? What type of fantasy world does he live in (e.g., medieval)?

I added some details to the header/topic title. You can update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, click the "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

Lucas | 15 comments I will try but anything here could be outright wrong.

It was a definite quest where he leaves home, and he travels by ship. I believe it was dark fantasy (no science oriented technology I can remember).

The main character was in his teen years or young adult.

It was either two or three books and one may have had Tower in the name. The covers were very monochromatic. One red and one green. I am pretty sure they will stand out when I see them.

Lucas | 15 comments Oh my gosh I found it!!!

It’s The Seven Citadels series by Geraldine Harris

Here are the covers that were super vivid in my mind, though the elements of the covers were rearranged in my memories.

I honestly thought I had made them up!!!
