Hello! For October, lets be obvious and read something scary! I haven't read a 'frighteningly' (pun totally intended) good book in quite a while and I would love to get my hands on a good horror story! So lets see what the creepiest books on your list are! Thanks for participating!!

Shannon, that books looks really good!!!

I think I want to throw in my own suggestion of The Hound of the Baskervilles. I was going through my books this weekend and started looking at my Leather Bound edition of The Sherlock Holmes stories and I realized I have never read this one and I thought October would be a great time to read it!

Lisa, I read the synopsis of The Hound of the Baskervilles and I don't believe I've read it, and I love Doyle's work! However, in light of the season and the upcoming film coming out next September (I know, it's far off,) I'd like to nominate It.

If that's too daunting, I've always wanted to read Rosemary's Baby or The Omen.

Shannon Pifher (shannonpifher) | 35 comments Lisa, Pretty girls is basically this years Gone Girl but more twisted

Ive also never read any Sherlock Holmes stories so I wouldnt be opposed to trying one! Whats your favorite one?

message 6: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Rosemary's Baby is so, so good! Everything by Ira Levin is so cleverly written as tongue in cheek, that you just don't know if you should be laughing or terrified.

I somehow skipped right over your comment! Sorry about that, I have actually never read IT. That would be a fun one since there is a movie in the works! The Omen looks good and creepy too!

I ran across this book, Harvest Home, on my timeline today and thought it might be a good addition to our list of recommendations

I don't know how I keep missing all these comments! haha I read the summary for Pretty Girls and it does sound good!!

To date I think that my favorite Sherlock Holmes is The Sign of Four because of the way it portrays Sherlock although I will admit that it has been so long since I read it that I almost feel like I haven't read it. I haven't read The Hound of the Baskervilles though and I honestly think it might become my favorite. I know the story and I have always loved it but the book is one I just haven't gotten to yet. I plan on reading all of the Sherlock novels soon though because last year I received one of those Barnes and Noble leather bound editions and I've been wanting to read or reread all the stories since then! How about you?

Kandice I started Harvest Home last night and am loving it!

Nicole The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I have heard good things about this book. Not really scary from what I am told but still a good book.

Ah, no worries, Lisa. IT is a must-read for any fan of the genre, or a Constant Reader. Whenever I do read it again, it'll be my third time through. EEk!:))

Yeah, The Omen and Rosemary's Baby are also classics in the genre, and have been on my TBR for years.

True, this is fantasy/magical realism, but it's beloved by many.:)

I read a few Sherlock Holmes stories in college, and I loved the characters and Sir Doyle's writing. I'm definitely interested in reading more of them, perhaps even the entire Holmes canon.

Thank you, ladies, for nominating this one! Harvest Home has actually been on my TBR for a few years now. I'd forgotten all about it, actually.

No matter what book gets voted in for October, I plan on reading ALL of these books ASAP! They all look so great and I'm really interested in Harvest Home!

Yes, Harvest Home sounds amazing, and it's well-received, too!!! I am particularly interested in your opinions on IT.

Well Dustin I plan on reading both HOPEFULLY before the month is out of not that, before the year is over. I'll definitely make sure to post about them!!

message 21: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm on page 224 of Harvest Home and it's been a bit of a slog. It has been so highly praised I thought it would be much better than I am finding it to be. I might have liked it more coming into it with no preconceived notions.

Wow, you plan on finishing IT by the year's end? That's ambitious! I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on both.:)

Same here!! I have to finish The Hound of the Baskervilles and then I promised myself I'd read Bite Me for my own personal Halloween book but those should not take me long at all. Then I will be diving into It! I should have quite a lot of holiday time while reading it so that should help me get through it quickly HOPEFULLY! Hope you enjoy it!

message 27: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I read Bite Me and under normal circumstances I find Christopher Moore reliably great. This was an exception. I'm anxious to hear what you think, Lisa.

Well I hope I enjoy it! It will actually be my first book of his to read so I'll make sure not to take it to heart if I don't really enjoy it haha. I have been wanting to read a lot of his books for a while now. I've always heard good things!
