Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I'm having technical difficulties with my book. I picked up the audio cds from the library. Had it on hold for a month before it finally came in from another branch. Well CDs 4-7 are so badly scratched that Itunes won't load them and my computer won't even play them. My car will but I only have a 5 min commute so not much listening time. But it looks like my local library has the paperback version. I'm hooked on the book now and want to finish it but it's just a matter of getting to the library. I don't get a long enough break to go at lunch time and I have plans after work tonight. I might start another book with a green cover just in case someone beats to me my library's copy.

Lesser Evils (Infected, #6) by Andrea Speed
Finished 6/17/14
Rating - 4.5♥

Review: Wow - so much happened in this book. The relationship between the Falcons' Hockey players and Roan/Dylan continues to grow. Shocker - but more groups of people become Cat/Infected haters and continue to come after Roan. Roan's virus continues to act up and he ends up partially transforming more frequently without even trying. Roan finally admits that he is probably depressed and needs help. Holden - finds a friend in a very unlikely person. Should be interesting in the next book. Which I want to read right now because the book was left some what in limbo. But it doesn't freaking work for a purple or teal cover - boo hoo :) I'll get to it next week somehow!! Must know what happens!

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments Week 4: Green/Teal Cover
Again The Magic by Lisa Kleypas
Book:
Again The Magic
Read: June 19
Rating & Reviewed: ★★★★
Lady Aline Marsden made an inexcusable faux pas; she fell in love with the help, John McKenna. Even though they grew up together, Aline was the daughter of the Westcliff, while McKenna was a bastard and stable boy at the Westcliff estate. When Aline’s father found out about the affair, he threatened to ruin McKenna, but Aline convinced her father that she would get rid of McKenna.

Twelve years later, Aline and her sister Olivia live with their older brother Marcus, the current Lord of Westcliff. McKenna and his business partner Gideon Shaw came to town for a business deal. It became clear that business wasn’t the only purpose for McKenna’s visit. Would Aline and McKenna get a second chance?

Even though this was Aline’s story, it was also her sister Olivia’s story. Olivia and Aline were victims of indiscretions that tainted them in the eyes of the ton. However, with the support of their loving brother Marcus, the two ladies were very close and surprising resilient. But love has a way of forcing one to confront and deal with one’s vulnerabilities. Aline and Olivia had to fight to get a second chance at happiness.

Other than the Westcliff name and a mention of Harry Rutledge, this book didn’t quite feel like a Wallflower book, but it was as enjoyable as the other Lisa Kleyaps HRs. I was really reminded of all the shallowness and vanity that rule the ton. I was also reminded that love can still survive a decade of separation. I just can’t help wondering what the couples would have done if America (New York City) wasn’t an option for residence. Was their love strong enough for them to face the ton daily?

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I never made it to the library to get the print version of my book. But between various errands and the parts that I was able to download onto Itunes, I am up to disc 7 of 12. Going to an outdoor concert a half hour from here tonight and that will knock out another discs worth. I should finish tomorrow. I can listen while I clean out my basement. The later discs aren't as in bad of shape as the earlier discs and most of them loaded onto Itunes.

Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs
Night Broken by Patricia Briggs
Finished: 6/19/14
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review:

I'm feeling lazy (view spoiler) so this review will probably stink. You've been warned.

After a frantic phone call from Christy asking for help from the pack, they decide to let her stay in the house with them for protection. Ugh, I hated her. She immediately tries to take back what she gave up by manipulating everyone, claiming the kitchen as her territory and trying to cook her way back into Adam's life, throwing little passive-aggressive barbs at Mercy and playing the poor little me card constantly. Ugh, again. Let me tell you, Mercy is a better person than me because I don't know if I could have handled that as well as she did. Bravo Mercy, Bravo!! I have a theme song for Mercy that I kept hearing "Can't Touch This". (view spoiler)

Meanwhile, a Gray Lord has visited Mercy and he wants the Walking Stick back. So off she goes trying to find Coyote and get it back. He's such a turd. In order to find Coyote she meets up with Gary Laughingdog, her half-brother. I liked this addition to Mercy's family :)

Even though it started off a little slow as far as action goes, there are a ton of things happening. Christy's stalker turns out to be more than human, The Gray Lord bit that I'm thinking will have more in the next book because that fell kind of flat for me in the end, new characters introduced to the pack and so on. I have really missed Stefan these last few books and I was very happy to see him again but I want more Stefan!! Mercy finally gets some revenge on Christy and it's the perfect Mercy pay back. So true to her character.

Bring on the next one! I'm ready :)

message 324: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 1616 comments @Nichole - Yep - that revenge was the best part of the book :) - I have to say by about midway through - I just felt sorry for Christy as she really is pathetic.

message 325: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 1199 comments I never felt sorry for her lol. I was too disgusted with her for that. I did feel sorry for Jessie though. That is her mother after all. Another thing I love about this series is that I was a little worried about where things might go for books 5+. Sometimes when the couple gets together it fizzles. Thank God she is such an amazing writer that she is able to make it work and keep on going.

I felt sorry for Jessie also - I was happy that Jessie and Adam never went to the dark side the whole time Christy was there. For me that made the book better and was probably why I felt sorry for Christy - really she is the teenager - insecure, all about me, I'm still young etc in the Mom/daughter relationship IMO. I actually have Mom's like that at both of my kids schools and I just have to laugh and SMH - so sad.

message 327: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments I never felt sorry for Christy either. Seriously, she could have had Adam back but she waits until right after he marries Mercy to make her play.

It also shows she doesn't know Adam because he is a man of his word and values loyalty.

My main beef is with that pack. Mercy has suffered and bled for them--and this is the thanks and loyalty she gets????

Yeah - I think the packs mentality sucks. It's not all of them but it's enough of them. I loved the part where (view spoiler)
And, yes, absolutely Christy could have had Adam but we are talking about a totally weak female who only thinks of herself. She doesn't even think of her daughter.
I should clarify, I felt sorry for Christy as in you're a total idiot look what you've done to your life by being an idiot - more of a pathetic, pity type of sorry. Not an I feel sorry for you that these circumstances happened to you sort of sorry. She brought all this on herself and now she has to take it.

Nichole | 1199 comments Yeah, I think Honey is begrudgingly (is that right?) accepting Mercy. She was standing up for her. And what gets me is the fact that the pack liked and accepted Christy but not Mercy! Christy is freaking human! I'm ready for them to stop being a-holes to Mercy when she does so much for them.

Čast by Julie Garwood

Finished: 6/21/14
★★★★★

Julie Garwood is really at her best in her Medieval romances. This one doesn't disappoint. I normally don't like an overly weepy heroine but Madeline's weeping didn't annoy me. It was usually a comedic element. I'm partial to clutzy, quirky heroines and Madeline fit that perfectly.

Belinda | 801 comments Thanks for updating this weeks shelf ladies :)

Sorry I've been absent this week. My friend had major surgery last week & she was home 24 hours before a nasty infection set in & had to go back and have another operation. I haven't much felt like reading so I'm behind on this weeks book (just over halfway thru). I am on holidays from work so I should be able to catch up.

I have had UnWholly (Unwind, #2) by Neal Shusterman from the library for a while and only made it 50-100 pages in. I think I just restart it for readers choice as its due back soon

Mortal Sins (World of the Lupi, #5) by Eileen Wilks
Finished: 6/23/14
Rating: 4♥

Review: Wow - another action packed book. This one had an ex issue in it also. Can't get away from them. Save me from idiot exe's. Anyway, Rule has decided it is time for his son, Toby, to live with him and Lily at clan home. He is in town for this hearing as well as some Leidolf business as well. Still attempting to see how the two mantles work out. Rule stumbles upon a grave site with the bodies covered in death magic. He calls in Lily to check out the site. Their vacation ends up being a working investigation into the recent deaths/murders of family in town by the Dad/Husband. However, not is as it seems as the murderer has no recollection of what happened. Alicia, Toby's Mom, decides to come to town to let it be known that she doesn't wish to relinquish her son to Rule (really??!) as she has gotten married within the last year and would like Toby to come live with her and new hubby ~ who no one has met or knew anything about - again I say , really??!? Along the way Toby's best friend and his sister have some gifted/magic of their own to deal with that may just help Lily's case. Cullen decides to make a sinfully sexy appearance to help with the case as well. Hilarious when Toby's Grammy meets him :) Things aren't always what they appear - nor do they work out the way you think they will. Rule and Lily have some bumps along the way. Rule has some issues of his own to deal with as well. I know you'll be shocked to hear that Alicia had her own agenda for wanting Toby - I know - crazy, right?? I am loving this series - each book gets better and better.
