Primal Bonds (Shifters Unbound, #2) by Jennifer Ashley
Shelf: Shifter

Finished: 6/2/14
Rating: 3.5-4♥'s

Review: this is #2 in Shifter's Unbound series. This story centers on Sean Morrissey (Liam's brother) - the Guardian for their pack. He is sent in when one of their shifters is dying to use his sword to turn them to dust and send them on. Sean agrees to 'claim mate' Glory's niece, Andrea Gray, sight unseen from the Colorado pack where she has basically been an outcast due to being Lupine and half Fae. She has been tormented by the Alpha's son and friends since she would not accept his claim to bond with her - you know the type - thinks he's god's gift (yes, he's a total douche) and she should just fall all over herself in glee because he wants her??!!? Gag me. Shocker she didn't cave for him. she has spent her whole life unwilling to submit or be made to feel less by anyone - especially a male shifter. She looks all shifter's in the eye - even the Alpha's. Yep - I totally loved her!! She doesn't give an inch to Sean or his siblings either. Humans are wildly shooting into human owned establishments that have Shifter workers. The Fae are introduced in this book through her Father who she has never met - he left her mother when she was pregnant. He wants the Guardians sword. Andrea's not giving it. Another Shifter pack wants the Guardians sword as well. Oh and Glory gives Dylan an ultimatum. Lots going on in this one. I liked this book much better than book 1. Could be I liked Sean better than Liam. He was a total straight talker instead of the charmer Liam is/was. Didn't beat around the bush and made his feelings for Andrea known but let things develop at her pace. I'll be looking forward to #3.

I almost hate finishing so early because then I have to wait all week for the next shelf.

I meant the Shifter book: Primal Bond. I think that's one of my MnG books. I have the e-book, but I saw it at audible and I was debating trying the audio

message 208: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 1616 comments I think it would be a decent audio as long as it's a good narrator. Shouldn't be that long either.

Dreaming of the Bones
Das verlorene Gedicht (Duncan Kincaid & Gemma James, #5) by Deborah Crombie

Not my favorite of the series so far. I am not a big poetry fan and this was about a poet that may or may not have been murdered and who was obsessed with the poet Rupert Brooke. So lots of poetry quotes and poetry talk. Also not a big fan of long letters withing books and there was a lot of long letters written by the "victim". This a long series and so there are bound to be some I like more or less than others. Still a great mystery. Crombie is excellent at giving her main characters a personal life that actually progresses without having it take over from the mystery.

Nichole | 1199 comments I had to switch to the ebook version of Shadow Game (GhostWalkers, #1) by Christine Feehan . I didn't like the narrator. When will I learn to listen to a sample first!! Once I switched I liked the story much better, lol. Of course I go through audios a lot faster so I probably won't finish for a few days now.

I haven't listened to that one in a couple of years, but I plan to listen to book 2 soon. Sorry it didn't work for you, but I remember liking it

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I liked the Ghost Walker books in audio. But now that I think about it, I read the 1st 2 in print because the library didn't have them in audio. So maybe the narrator changed.

finished: 4/6/14

review:

i finished this a couple of days ago but it's taken me a while to decide what to say and how to rate it. it was a book i couldn't put down, it read really quickly and easily and the story flowed nicely however the overall story didn't seem to have a lot happening. the characters were endearing but not unique/spectacular. the ending was fairly obvious early on but watching the characters discover everything for them selves was entertaining. i was tossing up between a 3 and 4 star rating and went with the higher one.

Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis
Finished 6/4/14
Rating: 3

Review: It's been a while since I've read a Jill Shalvis book. While it was nice to hop back in her world this one didn't wow me. I couldn't connect to the MC's for most of the book and that could just be me. I warmed up to Lilah by the middle of the book. Took longer for Brady. Found it hilarious that he was upset when she treated him the same way he had treated all of his past "flings/one night stands" whatever you want to call them. She played things very close to the chest to keep from getting hurt. I will say this - the one thing I did like about this book was that there was no 'big' misunderstanding. I really liked the secondary characters (kind of more than the MC's). I'm really looking forward to Dell and Jade's story which is next.

Rarer Than Rubies by E.M. Lynley
Book:
Rarer Than Rubies by E.M. Lynley (214 pages per GR)
Read: June 5
Rating & Reviewed: ★★½. *Snoozefest*
This one wasn’t good. The writing didn’t pull me in and the characters didn’t engage me either. Actually it was boring.

Trent Copeland was an erotic romance writer who just got his latest rounds of books rejected by his publisher for being too much like his last work. His publisher and friends talk him into taking a vacation to Thailand, where he can relax and rejuvenate his mind, so he can have a clean palate to begin writing again.

While at the Bangkok airport, some guy chats him up, but all of a sudden seems to show up every he is at. It turns out that the sexy guy Reed Acton had hidden a map in Trent’s backpack to keep the mobsters after him from getting the map. After some conversations, Reed tells Trent that his erotic romances were boring and could be spiced up. Reed offers to give him some live action tutorials to help him write steamier more erotic sex scenes, which Trent quickly accepts Reed’s offer of help. Now the two embark on a “Just sex” for research endeavor, but it morphs into more for both men. Meanwhile, the mob is after both Reed and Trent so they can recover the map which details a location for some hidden loot. Can Reed protect Trent physically as well as emotionally?

I hate when authors use really silly misunderstands to try to whip up drama. A few here and there is okay, but it got annoying in this book. Normally, I am a fan of insta-love, but I wasn’t feeling it here. First, I didn’t feel there chemistry anyway, but Trent just seemed like a little boy with his Lilac underpants. I found myself rolling my eyes a bit in this book so I am pretty sure I will not be continuing with this series.

Well, I am starting to find the authors I enjoy and the ones that I don't. I won't be reading book 2 of that series.

I did enjoy Power Exchange (Power Exchange, #1) by A.J. Rose a lot

LOL, it came heavily recommended...but I find that people confuse graphic sex with "hotness" and say it was good.

I don't need sex for a great book...but I must have get emotional connection.

Without the risk of offending anyone, I feel like a lot of authors in the m-m genre get a pass on subpar work because others are trying to be supporting in small, tightknit community. I have read a lot of sub par work because of lots of sex, no real plot garned 5-stars.

Sandra | 25912 comments Yep, I could see that happening, a lot. The true test should be, does it matter if its MM or MF as the leads? The story & characters should be able to stand regardless of genders.

true. That's why I have eased up on NEw Adult books too. They were flooding that genre with subpar stuff too.

I have tried to be more selective in my choices now, as I figure out my tastes and the authors that work for me

Book: Shadow Game by Christine Feehan
Shelf: Yellow/Orange Cover
Finished: 6/6/14
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Review:

A group of men agreed to be part of a scientific experimentation to strengthen their psychic abilities. But something went wrong. Deemed dangerous, they were locked up and studied like lab rats. After men start dying under suspicious circumstances, Dr. Peter Whitney decides to bring his daughter in on the project. She is, after all, a product of his psychic experimenting. She has learned to live with these extraordinary gifts and how to manage in the world. Can she save these men before it's too late?

I gave the book 3 stars because I liked the concept, it had some nice steamy scenes, and some action. I did struggle to get through it at times though. I didn't care for the narrator and had little actual reading time. So it seemed like it took for-eee-vah to finish. All in all, a nice middle of the road read. I'll read the next one because I would like to see where things go from here.

Nichole | 1199 comments Thanks for the pic, Ezi! You'll probably kick my butt but I made fun of him sometimes. He had this face he made sometimes, where his mouth was hanging open like he should be saying "Duuuurh". So yeah, we made fun of him when he did that :) But I LOVED that show!

Oh yeah, I won't lie either... I started watching it because my friend said it showed naked men (not just a butt cheek) and I was like "you lie!". I had to investigate to make sure *wink* and my husband and I were hooked from the start. The first time a penis made an appearance I hollered out "penis!" and made my husband rewind it, lol. I couldn't believe it. Dangly bits on TV, whaaaat?? So yeah, that's my story.

That turned me off until learned some of the penis shots were prosthetic. But Crixus shot was his own.
But as soon as Mira came on the scene, it was money because I used to watch her on Legends of the Seeker ( Along with Glaber) which was based on Wizard's First Rule (Sword of Truth, #1) by Terry Goodkind
