Review:
Rosalind Rutherford is in a bind as her sadistic stepbrother is intent on selling her to the highest bidder. Determined to ruin herself for marriage, Rosalind propositions society’s most notorious member, Armond Wulf, Lord of Wulfglen. Armond knows the he must resist the temptation posed by Rosalind for his family is under a terrible curse that is triggered by love. Yet the more time they spend together, the more difficult Armond finds it to stem both the physical and emotional desire he feels for Rosalind.
Armond is a fabulous hero with tremendous inner strength and stoicism in the face of the family curse and society’s affront. He also has a profound sense of honor despite the rumors that abound and is kind and solicitous toward Rosalind and the dowager duchess. Rosalind is a courageous and spirited heroine although she does have moments of intense stupidity that tend to undermine her character. Armond and Rosalind have spellbinding chemistry and their romance is sensual and steamy.
Although the murder mystery subplot is predictable, it does lead to some intense moments and exciting action scenes. The villains are truly despicable and it is satisfying to seem them get their well-deserved comeuppance.
While not all that original, the Wulf family curse is an interesting plot device that word well within the storyline. Nevertheless, more detail could have been included regarding the origins and exact effects of the witch’s spell.
The next two books in the series focus on Armond’s brothers - Jackson the playboy and Gabriel the introvert, and I look forward to reading their stories.

Don't mess with Texas is a nice, light romance perfect for summer reading. I liked that this just wasn't only a romance, there was a murder mystery as well. The two main characters Nikki and Dallas meet when Nikki is accused of murdering her philandering ex-husband. Dallas is the private investigator who offers to help Nikki prove her innocence. The two are attracted to each other and Dallas feels strangely protective of Nikki.
I loved the supporting characters. Nikki' Nana was a hoot and a power to be reckoned with. I also enjoyed the side story of Dallas' brother Tony as he tried to get his estranged wife LeAnn back.
All in all, a fun summer read.

I have read all of Molly Harper's werewolf series and then accidentally read the first book of the spin-off series of this book about six months ago. It was good to start fixing my error. Like all of her other books I have read, this had her usual humor that made this greatly enjoyable. I love to read books that make me laugh which is why her books are some of my favorites.

The others are: Blue/Purple Cover (2,8), UF (2,8), Romance (4,6), Vampires (6), PNR(5), Favorite(5), Black cover(7), Witches(10).
So there is a good chance that this may be the last week.

Review:
This was my first foray into this particular subgenre of romance: biker. It's kind of cool to take a walk on the bad boy side. And bad boy for real. Not reformed. These are folks who are running drugs, extortion, cover ups, you name it.
So I liked Denise to a point. She is a single mother, up to her neck in debt and even after all the good things she has tried to do to bounce back from having and raising children alone early in life, the economy gets her in the end. ECONOMY, DAMN YOU!!! shaking my proverbial fist of injustice But I digress...
Like I was saying, Denise is cool but she has some moments where it's like girl get a back bone and tell these people to go eff off. Or go to the cops. Or something. Some of the stuff that happens, I actually blame Liam more than Denise. So here we go with my rant on this dude...
Liam is a punk and a piss poor criminal. Let's run through the list of stupid s*** that he did.
1. Denise is a random acquaintance of the H's sister from work. They don't hang out, they don't chat on the phone. They both work at the local super store together. She takes a shift for the H's sister so the sister can bail the H out of jail. What idiot biker gang is like "oh yeah let's let this RANDOM girl from my sister's/daughter's job run drugs. Yeah that's a GREAT idea!!!!". I mean really? REALLY? They must be trying to get caught...
2. So Denise is apparently neighbors with a local reporter and when she agrees to run drugs (imagine having someone twist your arm behind your back and asking you a questions kind of agrees) these idiot biker gang members leave a suped up lime green el camino in her driveway. Way to draw attention much? Not the mention the fact that these biker gang members are all of a sudden showing up to her house. These people are idiots. Anyways so back to the reporter friend to sees ALL OF THIS...
3. And leads me to point number 3, when it comes out that the reporter knows all this stuff - aside from having an informant - she can draw conclusions from you piss poor criminals, Liam's dad hauls off and slaps Denise across the face. She all bruised up and crap and what does Liam do? He gets mad and says nothing except "She's my property yada yada"
So I think the main thing that set me off with this book was the patriarchical culture of the biker gang and the inherent sexism. I mean really, the step before the engagement and marraige is wearing a leather vest that says "Property of". 3...2....1.... FEMINIST WAR CRY AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
And Done.

Lol!

@ Danielle, I think I've only read one biker book and it wasn't very nice to women either... Probably tried after watching Son of Anarchy. Hard to romanticize that kind of life...
This weeks shelf really doesn't do much for us, but we have two chances at bingo next week. One may be a read off...
Date night concert was awesome even tho it rained on us... Country fans have no sense of getting out of the rain and lighting...
Will try to hurry up and get this weeks pick finished since Kate and Curran's new book comes out this week... I saw furry Curran doesn't count as two people in the discussion thread. Bummer...

Happy to see date night went well. I did the opposite this weekend. I watched a 10 month old along with my 3 year old and realized maybe she will be an only child lol

A perfect summer read!
How could I ask for more? I kept picturing Dr. McDreamy and Dr. McSteamy when I thought of Dr. Sean O'Neil, orthopedic surgeon and resident heart breaker. Sean is not good at relationships. His job is way more important than anything else in his life. And he likes it that way. Until he meets Elise Bonnet, the charming French cook who works at his family's lodge in Vermont. Elise doesn't do relationships either, but she is attracted to Sean. The feeling is mutual, however the two don't really know it. Loved the buildup to romance in this one - it's one of those wonderful feel good novels.
I think that what made this book so enjoyable was the writing. I had never read anything by this author before but now she is definitely on my favorites list. It also helped that I've been to the area described by the book - it is the perfect place to fall in love.
The story did not only revolve around our main characters. The supporting characters - the O'Neil clan and their various partners were wonderful to be around. I loved crotchety Walter the patriarch of his family, as well as Sean's twin brother Jackson and his other brother Tyler. I enjoyed the family dynamics in the book as well.
All in all, a nice, light romance, perfect for summer reading by the pool.

Looking for Alaska by John Green
Finished 7/27/14 ★★★ 1/2
I've read one other of John Green's book that I really enjoyed, Will Grayson, Will Grayson, so I was looking forward to reading another. I liked this one, probably can't say loved, but it was good. There were definite high and low points for me. When Miles 'Pudge' leaves Florida public school to attend the same high school boarding school his father did in Alabama. There, he ends up rooming with Chip 'The Colonel' and hanging with his friends Alaska and others. Pudge lives a different life with these friends than he ever did in Florida, and his transformation took place throughout the book. Through the first half of the book, as the countdown occurred within the book, I really enjoyed the build up. The when the big event happened, it was a little harder to get through the book for me. I still enjoyed the story and plan on ready more of John Green's books.

Yeah. Siblings have a bad habit of sticking around :0)

Review:
This is the final book in the Dark Age Dawning Trilogy and it didn't disappoint. This series is set in post "Change" times where there is no power, no government, and many didn't survive were animal shift that came upon them with the Change. And the worst of humans transformed into packs of zombie like hell hounds that killed anyone they came upon. Shortly after the Change, a group of survivors banded together out west and this group included a troubled teenage boy Truman and a small magical little girl named Penny. The kids were taken by a couple from the first book and raised in a private home in the mountains away from all the chaos.
Flash forward several years and a magical woman Pen has allowed herself to become captured by slavers who are taking her to a secret hideaway. Suddenly a large Lion appears and takes out the guards and Pen recognizes him as her Tru, the boy who befriended her many many years ago. But this Tru is a bitter man who barely resembles the boy she once idolized, but she isn't a saint either...
First off I have to say shame on me for not reading this sooner, another treasure that was sitting on my shelf for too long... This story had all the elements that I like in a good story. Very dark and UF, both characters were very flawed and somewhat broken, a really nasty bad guy that needs to be dead already, and hope for a better future worth fighting for.

Week #11: Two's Company

Read: August 3rd
Rating: 3 Stars
Review:
Good suspense plot but awful characterization.
This book has to have the most TSTL heroine that has ever existed. Not only is she the most inept private investigator who gets into the most stupid situations and alienates every law enforcement officer in her vicinity, but she also remains friends with the self-absorbed b*tch (a very fitting description) who betrayed her in the most basic of ways, and manages to forgive for the selfish jerk who broke her heart.
The hero is a cheat and a hypocrite. His excuses for his unforgivable behavior are not only unconvincing but offensive, and his reconciliation with the heroine is unrealistic in the extreme.
The investigation into a serial killer targeting women associated with a local salvage yard operator is the book’s only saving grace. The suspects are well-developed and the motivations compelling. Nevertheless, the identity of the killer is exceedingly obvious and the climax and resolution are rushed. The epilogue is also completely superfluous.
Brenda Novak is a skilled writer as evinced by the 2nd book in this series. However, this is definitely NOT one of her better works.

Book: Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews

Review:
I absolutely love this series and it just seems to get better and better if that's possible. Kate and Curran are dealing with their overseas trip to get pancea, the drug that prevents young were's from going loup, and the loss of some key Pack members in the process. Of course, Kate was pretty much outed as Roland's daughter, but no one is sure what it means or when this big confrontation is going to occur... Then a surprise nemesis appears in Atlanta and with the death of a People leader, it looks like the Pack and the People are going to finally go to war. And when the build up occurs another game changing event happens and off we go again in another direction. What a fantastical collaboration this duo have in creating Kate's world and the idea of magic vs tech and its effect on civilization as we know it. But all that just took a back seat to learning about Roland and his origins, the People, etc. Kate just keeps getting more bad a$$ and Curran, can you love him anymore? He and Kate are good but even more amazing together. I so look forward to these books and then they just go way to fast... With the decisions made in this one, I cannot wait to read about the next leg of this journey.

It's been fun and we had a great team!! Read some good books this round and added a few more to my list. Funny how that always works.... Hope to catch ya'll in the next round.
