Rachel | 3524 comments Please post all questions/comments/updates about the Fall 2016 Reading Challenge in this thread :)

The Fall 2016 Reading Challenge will start on September 7th and end on November 30th, 2016.

Rules of the Challenge:

Read 3 books (or more)
Complete 3 tasks (or more)
Books can be any genre
Re-reads are okay

So this fall, complete 3 (or more) of the following tasks:

1. September = Back to school.

so this fall:

READ A BOOK SET (AT LEAST IN PART) AT A SCHOOL OR UNIVERSITY (it can be a regular school or a school for wizards-any type of school works for this task)

2. September 9th is Stand Up To Cancer Day.

so this fall:

READ A BOOK ABOUT CANCER

or

READ A BOOK THAT FEATURES A CHARACTER FIGHTING CANCER OR A CANCER SURVIVOR

3. October 22 is Smart is Cool Day.

so this fall:

READ A BOOK WITH THE LETTERS S-M-A-R-T
IN THE TITLE (these letters don't have to be in order)

4. October 31st is Halloween. Remember the movie Halloween? A young boy named Michael Myers murders his older sister on Halloween. He breaks out of the insane asylum many years later (on Halloween) to go after his younger sister.

so this fall, complete one of the following:

a. READ A BOOK WITH THE WORD "HALLOWEEN" IN THE TITLE
or
b. READ A BOOK THAT FEATURES A CHARACTER NAMED MICHAEL
or
c. READ A BOOK BY AN AUTHOR NAMED MICHAEL
or
d. READ A BOOK (SET AT LEAST IN PART) IN A MENTAL HOSPITAL/ASYLUM

5. November 24th is Thanksgiving, which for many means spending time with family.

so this fall

READ A BOOK THAT CENTERS AROUND A DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY (because families that get along are boring to read about :)

6. Many talented authors celebrate their birthdays this season.

so this fall, read a book by one of the following:

a. Terry Tempest Williams- Sept. 8th
b. Ted Dekker- Oct. 24th
c. Colson Whitehead- Nov. 6th
d. Margaret Atwood- Nov. 18th

7. Random Task-This task counts towards the challenge but is not inspired by the season.

so this fall:
PICK 5

Look at your gr tbr and pick 5 titles
Then email me or just post the titles in the challenge discussion thread and I will choose (based on these 5) which book you read for the challenge :)

HAPPY AUTUMN, EVERYONE! :D

thanks Rachel. I have around 300 books lying around which I still need to read so I took 5 books that I have on my shelve for years. No idea why I never came to read them before and never saw the movie, cause I wanted to read the book first. Will let you know how it is. I am not sure (cause haven't read it yet) but does this also cover #2 of this challenge?

I didn't realize I still had this copy Dustin. Many people told me it is a bad book, but I still own it, so guess I can only judge for myself it it's good or not. Who knows, maybe I'll read it even though Rachel choose another one lol.

Happy fall challenge everyone!

I worked at Borders Bookstore and when they went out of business in 2011, I bought whatever books looked interesting at 60% or so off - Jennifer Government was one of those books.

I had a harder time picking your book because I've read 3 of the 5 and really liked them all but I had to choose Me Before You Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes -that story really got to me and it has stuck with me-loved the characters.

I definitely will, just don't know when. Every time I see the cover I have to laugh when I see that crazy raccoon.

Christine | 798 comments I finished my first book for the challenge. It has a character named Mike and I will count that as Michael if that is ok. The book is The Hatching by Ezekiel Boone I am a huge fan of horror and this one was awesome. I highly recommend it!!! If you are squeamish about spiders, it may give you nightmares. If you look at my review, you will see why I liked it, fast paced, great characters and a cliffhanger to the next book not due out until next year.

:-) I think you have to choose which one you want/need to use it for.

Reading Prodigal Son by Dean Koontz counts for the Michael task.

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 46 comments Prodigal Son for the Michael task then
and Brother for the Dysfunctional Family

Prodigal Son (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, #1) by Dean Koontz
Brother by Ania Ahlborn
