What a good story. David, the drummer for Schoolboy Choir, has a thing for Thea, their publicist. He finally convinces her to take a chance on him with some really hot letters. It does end a little abruptly but seems realistic. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Review: David, drummer of rock band Schoolboy Choir, has had the hots for the bands PR rep, Thea, for a long time. When he finally gets up the nerve to ask her out, she shuts him down - politely but firmly. Months later David still can't get over her and get some advice from Thea's half-sister, Molly, on what to do. This was a short and sexy story about how David woos Thea. I enjoyed the story, but it could have been longer and the conflict was pretty minor. It does make me want to read the other books in the series though!

Review: The theme of chosen family is definitely strong in this one. The story is told using the frame technique- we're introduced to Chauncey (nicknamed Chance) when he's been shot while strolling in the country. And then he proceeds to walk us through the significant events in his life that led him to this point. This can be an interesting storytelling device, but in this case, it definitely took some of the suspense out of the will they/won't they of the romance. The first person aspect, as well as the voice and personality of the narrator make it hard to really get a grasp on who Jacky, the love interest, is. Chance is a bit of an unreliable narrator, in that what we're seeing is through his very particular point of view. He acknowledges that he's handsome, but beyond that, doesn't see why anyone would care about it. Not many have, and those that did were taken from him tragically. And he takes it as read that Jacky is amazing and wonderful. So we get this guy who is presented as something of a golden god, but other than the fact that he loves Chance, I never felt like I really got to know him beyond that glow.
The tone and the language did a lot to set the time period. "Jeepers Creepers" was said several times. Women were dames, even though there were very few of them in the story. Guys were mugs. Morphine was referred to as "M", and addicts were "hopheads". Strangely, Chance didn't seem to have much interest in his exotic surroundings in Africa. Or maybe he was just really sick of it. Other than talking about tents and sand, there wasn't much attempt to describe it. And his unit in the French Foreign Legion didn't seem to do much of anything. Or at least, not anything that Chance chose to talk about.
The book was almost entirely flashback, with most of it taking place about 10 years before the frame. As the flashback ends, there are two sets of men who look to be on the verge of becoming couples. But in the second half of the frame we discover that none of them have managed to get their acts together, which seems a little pitiful. This was the first book in a series, and I assume those stories will happen in future books.

I saw this on one of the lists for this week and thought, that would be a quick reread - then I discovered the had redone the audio with Robert Petkoff as the narrator!! Oh yeah, that was well worth the time! I didn't remember much of the story since it had been a while and that probably made it even more enjoyable for me. I love this series and I love it even more in audio! Waiting, impatiently, for more...

Review: I love Kristen Proby and love this series. This is a re-read for me...
The MC in this story is a movie star turned producer...Luke. He starts out on shaky ground with Natalie by not being truthful with her about his stardom. Luke is persistent and very focused on 'Nat' throughout...but in true star meets girl form, it is tough going at times. It's not my favorite of the series, but it's a nice kick off...a series I can definitely recommend!

Awesome! Do we need to let Jane know that we're done?

Accolades go to the team...I was just trying to catch up to everyone else's awesomeness! I loved the re-read honestly...
Thanks Pam for doing a great job as our fearless leader!

And yes, thank you Pam for making sure we were all organized and especially ready at the end!
