It’s sad that Harry hates his summers more than term time. I still think he should ask someone else to stay with them, I’m sure the Weasleys and Hagrid won’t mind? Even for a little? He’s even got the money to pay for himself! And the Dursleys would hardly care, they even asked him to stay at Hogwarts in the summer.

Hedwig and Eroll bringing him his first ever birthday presents and cards was so cute and Harry liking his birthday for the first time ever is both amazing and heartbreaking.

Marge was a massive bitch and I’m glad he left. Him blackmailing Vernon about the letter was hilarious tho and I love the sass Harry spits out about Marge to Vernon!

Chapter 3-4:

I love Harry’s idea to bewitch his stuff and fly to London. I wonder what the thing was in the alley, like a dog but bigger.

Fudge was being so weird, totally upbeat about the whole thing. It’s strange that Harry doesn’t have any punishment and Fudge repeatedly starts saying things then stops, looking awkward.
Looks like chapter 4 explained it what with Sirius Black being after him and all but it still feels a bit shady. I really hope Fudge isn’t doing anything bad.

I’m glad Mr Weasley told Harry about Sirius Black but weird that he told Harry not to go looking for him. I feel like it’ll just make him more likely to without telling him why tho haha

When Harry tells Ron/Hermione about Sirius and then the Sneakoscope goes crazy, how do they not question Lupin’s trustworthiness? Ron told them the Sneakoscope worked when he was using Errol and he shouldn’t have so why do they suddenly think it’s broken? They don’t know this random dude, he could be anyone! Maybe he was only pretending to be asleep and that’s why it started spinning.

The train stopping and lights going out was so scary. Weird that Harry was the only one to faint and he heard screaming that they didn’t too. Ron said he was twitching so it wasn’t fainting.

Poor Harry, professor Trelawney told him about a ghost dog around him that’s a bad death omen and now everyone except McGonagall and Hermione think he’s gonna die.

I’m glad Hagrid’s first lesson was going well until Malfoy had to push the boundaries and get himself hurt. It’s nice that all the Gryffindor kids want to back Hagrid up tho.

I love their practical lesson with Lupin. He is so nice! Scolding Peeves for being bad, defending Neville to Snape, giving them encouragement...
Slightly annoying he deliberately stopped Harry tackling the Boggart but then in chapter 8 he explains that he thought it would be Voldemort and didn’t want to worry everyone too much.

I wonder what Malfoy was on about when he was taunting Harry, saying he’d get revenge on Sirius if it were him.
Poor Harry with them saying no about the village but maybe that was for the best after what happened with the fat lady. When Percy said ‘Somebody get Professor Dumbledore. Quick.’ You knew it was gonna be bad.

Chapter 9-10:

They overhear the teachers and minister talking but...
I find it hard to believe that James would put all his trust into someone who betrayed him... from what we’ve heard James had a good sense of character. I know Tom Riddle turned super bad but he went and studied the dark arts etc. In this case, it’s like Black just decided to be bad overnight. I mean, if Black was just any old friend, sure I could believe it, but him and James were practically inseparable. Sirius is the one person who it would almost 100% not be. Maybe the whole thing was a plan they made together somehow?

Also, Hagrid says...
-Black turned up at Harry’s when Lily and James were dead, white and shaking.
-He asked Hagrid to give him Harry and said he’d look after him (I know that could be a lie but still, even if he was bad, why would he want to take the baby? It makes little sense for him to want to kill a baby).
-Black let Hagrid take him after failing to convince him to hand him over (this man, who apparently sold out his best friend, publicly killed 13 people, just said “sure, take the thing I want” with no resistance??
Doesn’t scream ‘evil’ or ‘violent’ or ‘murderer’ to me. Something doesn’t add up.

Ron waking up to Sirius Black with his bed slashed and holding a knife was scary. The password guy said he told him all the passwords from a piece of paper, similar to that which Neville had lost... poor Neville, it’s always him!

I can’t believe that after Hagrid tells Ron and Harry off for choosing ‘broomsticks and rats’ over Hermione, she threatens to tell on them again the minute they get back for considering going to Hogsmeade. She doesn’t make it easy!

Trelawney is the worst teacher. She’s so flighty and big headed but tries to act like she’s not. And then she is rude to Hermione. Creepy exam for Harry as well, with Trelawney looking possessed and told him that the dark lords’s servant would rejoin him tonight.

Hmm, Scabbers is trying to get away from Ron is weird. I feel so bad for Ron being hurt by Sirius.

There were a few clues that Lupin’s a werewolf. I feel like they should have seen it coming, like Hermione did.

Aw, his dad was the fourth friend who wrote the map and all 3 of them learned to turn into animals to keep Lupin company. That’s so sweet! I never would have guessed the whomping willow was planted to hide Lupin when he changed.

It’s quite horrible that Pettigrew has been Scabbers the whole time, for years. It’s so sad that Sirius made Peter secret keeper because he thought Voldemort would know it was him but wouldn’t suspect it was Peter. And then Peter turned out to betray them...

When Sirius offers for Harry to live with him and he says yes immediately... heart melted! <3

And then it all fell apart when Lupin changed into a werewolf and Peter escaped! :(

I’ve definitely enjoyed this one the most so far! They often get a good beginning and end to the year but never middle haha Halloween is just a magnet for trouble.

I relate some of what I know to the films but the only ones I properly remember are Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Goblet of Fire.

I love that the rest are all technically new to me and that it seems to be so much better than the films. I’ve been watching each film after the book and it’s fun to see what they changed or left out.
