My reading continues to be slow, but I did a few audiobooks:

The Golden Compass - My Review

Also non-SFF: The Hard Bounce - My Review

David H. (bochordonline) Halfway Human by Carolyn Ives Gilman. This book was great--it reminded me of "The Left Hand of Darkness" in a lot of ways--lots of really interesting discussion on gender and sexuality and lack thereof. I've really enjoyed all of the "Twenty Planets" stories I've read by Gilman, and I'm looking forward to meeting her again at Capclave. Her latest Twenty Planets story, "Dark Orbit" is my next read.

John (Taloni) Taloni (johntaloni) | 5193 comments Read Metal Maiden Collection by Piers Anthony. Hilariously awful. It made me reflect on Anthony's uneven career, of which more here:

Phil | 1452 comments Any word on the Oct. book? It's getting a little late in the month.

Trike | 11195 comments Finished Underground Airlines, 3 stars for me. Long review on my list.

Started reading We Are All Completely Fine.

Halfway through Halo Encyclopedia: The Definitive Guide to the Halo Universe, which is massive. I like things like this, going back to my childhood with such books as the Terran Trade Authority tomes like Spacecraft: 2000 To 2100 AD and the Marvel Universe handbooks.

I also got equally large World of Warcraft: Ultimate Visual Guide from the library. I don't like the game but it covers characters from WarCraft II and III, which I did like.

Getting both the WoW and Halo books at the same time as my regular haul of books is quite the upper body workout. This is my version of exercise.

Phil | 1452 comments I loved that Spacecraft book when I was young too Trike! I used to pour over it and imagine different ships were in big battles against each other. No wait. That was just yesterday...

I actually, back at the beginning of the year, rebought all four of the TTA books -- I had two or three of them back in the day, but my copies had been long since lost to the ages.

I asked this weekend, but haven't heard back. I'll be sure to post an announcement thread as soon as I know what the pick will be.

Phil | 1452 comments Looks like the October book is The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker.

message 112: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I just finished Time Salvager. It was an okay read for me, 3 stars.

message 113: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 1638 comments If you liked The Night Circus you will like The Golem and the Jinni. Set in "Turn of the Century " New York, 1899 not 1999. I loved it.

message 114: by Darren (new)

Darren The Time of Contempt. Also re-reading Consider Phlebas, which I've of course read before, but after reading so many more of The Culture books, it seems like a completely different story.

AndrewP (andrewca) | 2667 comments Just finished Freedom™ by Daniel Saurez. Not quite as good as Daemon but still a breakneck pace tech thriller that I couldn't put down.

Still plodding through AFUTD with about 200 pages to go.

Somehow the release of the movie of Dan Brown's Inferno snuck up on me so I just started that to be finished before Oct 28th.

Aaron Nagy | 379 comments Finished off this series A Shattered Empire, it was good but ehhhhh the main character annoyed me a lot, and I felt every book was worse than the last I'm not sure why it just didn't click like it did for most others.

I was starting The Black Prism got bored a few hours in and decided to switch to something else and found We Are Legion (We Are Bob) on audible narrated by Ray Porter which was a complete blast of popcorn and the 5 star book I needed.

message 117: by Misti (new)

Misti (spookster5) | 549 comments Finished up Oathbreakers last night. I was planning on starting this month's pick today but then I got an email from the library saying that my hold of A Gathering of Shadows was available. Gotta get started on that as I only have a week to read it. It's kinda hard for me to read a book in a week.
