I'll fill in with series I have in progress but I have 6 committed group reads this month. Luckily two of these books are only 300 something pages to compensate for Bonehunters which is the largest of all the Malazan books by word count which is saying something. Two more are audio.

The Dragon's Path completed
The Last Mortal Bond 9/1 audio 50% done
Coraline (reading with 6 year old)
Night of Knives 9/6 50% done
The Bonehunters 9/10
The Darkness That Comes Before 9/15
The Dragon Engine 9/22
Menagerie audio whenever last mortal is done

I'm continuing The Dragon's Path and I'm going to read Night of Knives, The Darkness That Comes Before and The Bonehunters. We'll see after all of that if I have time to read anything else. Bonehunters is massive!

This coming month I'm planning to:

A King's Ransom need to finish.
The Dragon's Path
The Last Mortal Bond
The Mysterious Affair at Styles

Possibles that may get pushed into October depending on when I receive them as purchasing both.
The Sinner
Good Time Coming: A Sweeping Saga Set During the American Civil War

You have a great list. I'm especially looking forward to TAtN since the first book was so good and Dark Matter got such great reviews I'm looking forward to it. I like SCI-FI but I'm more selective when reading it.

I think it will depend on how early we finish Night of Knives, but cheating is inevitable at this point.

message 8: by Grace (new)

Grace (allthatisgold) | 18 comments I made a grave error in my book choices at the end of last month. I have two books that requires too much thinking and its slowing me down.

Currently reading Memories of Ice in book form. My mistake was selecting Jane Eyre as my Kindle 'counterbalance'. I rage selected it though because I was angry at the low-quality romances I've read this year and wanted something good. And it is good, but it so often requires just as much consideration as Erikson's stuff that it doesn't actually give my brain much of a break. That and I'm stubborn.

Next up:
1. The Darkness That Comes Before (book)
2. The Lies of Locke Lamora (book) (Bakker and FBC pushed this back)

I also have House of Chains on the docket but I doubt I'll get there before the end of the month (as it is, Lies is also an unlikely prospect) Kindle as usual is subject to whatever I'm reading in book form. So given my current problem, I rather suspect it's going to be a hugely trivial read.

Oooh, I didn't like Jane Eyre, but even for those who enjoyed it, I can't imagine reading Malazan and Jane Eyre at the same time. Both very dark and not exactly what I would call light reading.

Solseit | 1516 comments Provided that I keep changing my mind on my TBR, I came to the conclusion that I have too many open series and I need to come to a conclusion here and there.

So, the plan I have is to be either updated on on-going series or finish series! and it looks like a very ambitious plan (but it is a significant reduced amount of pages compared to what I read in August so I hope to make it).

Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising
The Last Mortal Bond
The Broken Eye
Ruin (it might be postponed to next month though)
Blood of Innocents (it can be postponed to next month)
Rise of Empire (but it can be postponed so I just read the two Riyria Chronicles books one after the other!)

The only exception will be The Darkness That Comes Before because it is a buddy read and I always have so much fun reviewing your comments!

Jarek "the Mistborn" Dąbrowski (jarekthemistborn) | 408 comments Finishing way of kings and then words of radiance. The warded man. Not much but I don't have a lot reading time lately plus way of kings and words of radiace are massive both over 1000 pages

September is starting to become a month that I read all the hardcover and paperback copies of books that have been sitting on my shelf for years.

(read)
I read The Dragon's Path with the group.
Stormdancer
Monsters of Men (was a DNF for me)
The Dark and Hollow Places

Now I'm reading Night of Knives with Scott and Dracula as one from my physical shelf.

I agree... but better start ambitious and not be able to hit all the books I'd like than the other way around when I start wondering which new series I should start - and I have plenty available already.... :D

Jarek... You seem to be doing just fine with your lack of time! Way of Kings is nothing to scoff at that's for sure!

Tried and Failed at the Tiger and the Wolf by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I think I just wasn't the target audience. It kind of has a Native American culture vibe but everyone is a different species of shape-shifter. Sounds very cool but I figured since I was still struggling at page 300 it was time to cut my losses.

message 17: by Dani (new)

Dani | 577 comments Wow Aristea - 7 books. I think I would get very stressed trying to finish that many!!

I am very pleased with my choices for this month so far. The Custodian of Marvels is the third book in a Steampunk trilogy, Before They Are Hanged the 2nd in a fantasy trilogy and False Hearts is a sci-fi story which I'm starting to really get excited about (I had chosen it on a whim for the bingo ch.)
My only problem is that I continue to have too little time to read.

No links bc I'm typing this in the car on my phone and I need to stop now bc I begin to feel car sick

You're the second person who DNF'd one of his books lately. I believe the other person Children of Time. I've been wanting to read something of his but these DNF's from friends on GR is making me wonder.

I have been having pretty good months lately so I will try to continue on this path!
You should just put on the list what makes you happy and the way it makes you happy!!!

I just received a beta version of Age of Swords and we only have 3 weeks to read and submit feedback.

I was hoping, since they'd picked me for Age of Myth and for Death of Dulgath.

Picked three times!? Damn you're lucky.

message 25: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments Among other reasons, Jenna :)

True, Scott. Though there is some method to the selections. They want a variety of readers, so they'll pick some that have read Sullivan before, some that have done betas before, and some that haven't done any of it. A good mix to see how the opinions line up. That gives a good gauge of how the public at large will look at it.

But I'll take lucky.

@Scott I will try out the Shadows of the Apt series and if that one doesn't work out I'll be giving up on him altogether. I really did want to like it but it was honestly so boring. Like Guy Gavriel Kay but with no epicness or point to the story lol
