Help I can't remember the name of this book!
It's by a Japanese author and was translated into English.
It's about a young boy who, while dealing with trouble at home, finds a gateway to another world in a derelict building near his home.
I didn't get to read much of it as my copy was stolen!
Very dark prose and slightly creepy. Would love to find it again.
I think it was translated within the last ten years, but I can't say that for a certainty. It was also a very long book.
