I caught this and wanted to make the point that people can get hold of books on Amazon free promotions that the author has instructed. These people can then leave reviews without the author knowing. Also sometimes Goodreads/Amazon makes recommendations based on books you have already read.

According to the reviewer, she reviewed your book by her choice and not because of this group, that's actually pretty cool.

Also the rating maybe bad but the review itself speaks about your writing. Your writing is terrific if the writing freaked her out. You made it really realistic and some people would eat a review like that up. People love realism. Some people read the bad ratings first and decide on books that way. Some bad ratings actually can help the author especially if inside them there are compliments.

To make it clear, my objection to this review is not the rating given but the fact the reviewer, under her own admission, has given an opinion without having read the book.

I remember reading the 10 rights of readers and one of these rights is to not finish a book. I think there is some confusion because this is unfolding within the auspices of a review group, but for all intents and purposes she is a reader and not an independent author submitting a book. I would suggest letting it pass. We don't want to scare off readers just because we have review groups for authors who are under more professional obligations than readers including the requirement to finish a book. If readers come across such author groups then all the more power to them but at the end of the day they are readers and valuable ones too.

If one thinks about it so many readers pick up books on the usual book retail websites and leave low ratings (as well as those who leave top five-star ratings) but no review or commentary at all, so how is she any different, and plus, she left some feedback which is rare for a reader to do.
