Finishing The Republic of Thieves (a group read). Listening to Inferno on audio (I have trouble keeping my mind on audio on the way home from work (usually), but this one is excellent). And starting on Gardens of the Moon (third try, this time taking notes, and it is working).
Finishing up Stone of Tears here then about to head off to pick up Jack of Shadows and Nine Princes in Amber for Goodreads Bookclubs. I really liked Homeland by RA Salvatore so will perhaps move onto the Exile in August as well, depends on how much I get done. I bounce between series a lot, bad habit maybe.
I just got back from spending a week at Glacier National Park. The trip was bookended with 24 hour Amtrak rides, which I used to good advantage to finally revisit Westeros -- I finished A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords, and am finally starting something new (to me): A Feast for Crows.
I must make a comment about Malice. At the beginning it really throws a lot of characters and storylines at you and it's just a tad confusing. I'm sure it all starts coming together a little later in the book, but I keep feeling the urge to put it down and start something else. Should I or should I be patient?
Be patient, especially if you like books such as The Red Knight by Miles Cameron! This is a great book, I really enjoyed it. It takes a couple of seconds to understand who is who and why he or she is there but it was really worth it for me!

Benjamin wrote: "Just started The Lies of Locke Lamora, heard a lot of good things about it so I'm excited!"One of my favourite series - enjoy!
I thought I might give The Eye of the World I have seen this series mentioned a couple of times, I finally looked it up and although I don't really know what the story is about. I decided to read it, and if I like it the whole series.
I'm reading The City of Mirrors. I was initially lost when I began reading (It had been four years since The Twelve), but I caught back on quickly.Next up is The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. I caught an American Experience episode on this subject on PBS and I'm really excited for it.
Just finished Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. It was pretty good. Now I've been reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Nostalgic.
Just finished Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and found it to...not exactly live up to standards, but it is worth a read for those who grew up reading Harry Potter.I am far more excited about reading The Fire Prince by Emily Gee. She certainly has a way with writing high fantasy/sword & sorcery. I certainly like that she stays on cue with adult fantasy, creating large worlds that are so different from our own.

I can't work up the excitement to read Potter by a different author. I'm finding it bewildering.

I would say the magic definitely wasn't there. They should have made it far more clear that JK Rowling basically sanctioned the script and didn't write it. While it was an alright read, I probably would never revisit it ever again, which is sad. Had much higher hopes! Probably worth a read if you can find it at the library, but $29 for a hardcover book was a bit much in my opinion for it :/
I'm about a third of the way through Malice and I'm glad I stuck with it. It's starting to get really good.
Ashley wrote: "I am far more excited about reading The Fire Prince..."Sounds good :) This month I'm totally Malazan, I've started my vacation with Gardens of the Moon and I finished Deadhouse Gates yesterday, now I'm tackling Memories of Ice which is another hefty book. A few side reads as well, because too much epicness requires some breaks :) mainly romance, the one I liked best is Entreat Me, a beauty and the beast themed fairytale.

DHG was soooo good. MOI was it's twin.
I Just finished The Inheritance Trilogy by NK Jemisin. I had never read anything by her before and I saw she had a new book out so I figured I would her previous works and im glad I did. I loved these books. her writing style is a little different but she has wild imagination and I adored the books. I'll be reading The Fifth Season by her also now that I'm done.

I'm having such fun but whoa, books are huge!
Alyssa, these are actually the smaller ones of the series. Quite a few were nearer 1200 pages. Very heavy.
I really enjoyed Jemisin's trilogy. I was going to buddy the new ones but I'm waiting for the conclusion.

Started Hawkwood's Voyage, it's been sitting around the house for a few years(bought it after I read The Ten Thousand)
Finished Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two. I wanted to like it, but mostly it was just a cringeworthy mess. :/I got in the mood for sci-fi now, so I'm reading The Dispossessed. Interesting so far.
I am reading City of Bones which seems to be a kind of sci-fi/fantasy mix. The environment sounds like Dune in some ways. I finished His Majesty's Dragon last week and wasn't too fond of it.

Just finished
, and now moving onto
- a classic (and short) novel i have had on my TBR list way too long!I am going on vacation at the end of this week and plan on reading:
,
, and
.Best,
Jonathan
This month I've read The Lies of Locke Lamora which I enjoyed. I plan to continue on with the series. Also read Death and Relaxation and it was a good first in series book.
Finished Malice. Really liked it. Gave it a 4 (4.5) stars. Love the building conflict between good and evil. Believe I'll read The Mirror Empire next.
Reading Dark Debts. Next up will be Alicia's Sin and Alicia Bewitched (sequels to a book I read last month.)
I started The Mirror Empire a year ago when it was a book of the month. Now I remember why I quit reading it. The names in this book are about as absurd as any I have ever seen and there are why too many of them. This is almost like trying to read a foreign language that one only has a partial grasp of. Also, I really can't stand whiney, weak "girly men". But, I'm going to have a little patience this time. I'm on chapter nine so I'm sure things will clear up a tad.
The best laid plains of mice and men...I was so disappointed in Dark Debts (2016) that I've decided to go with the 1996 version of the book next (since the former represents a major rewrite of the book).
I'm still trying to read The Mirror Empire and I have to say, the book is well written, the plot and characters are interesting but there are parts of this book that just makes my skin crawl and I think it's just plain awful. I keep reading it to find out what's going to happen next and...bam I run into another disturbing passage. I not quit there yet but I'm almost ready to quit reading it.
I'm currently reading NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. This is my first time reading his book, but although I find the story interesting, I don't find the characters very likable. Has anybody read his other books? How does it compare with this one?
I finished The Last Mortal Bond yesterday. I kind of lost focus after book one, but finished the series anyway. *shrugs*I've started The Wheel of Osheim now, which is more refreshing.
I enjoyed most of Last Mortal Bond but there are definitely sections that aren't exactly plot-driving.I was kinda disappointed by Osheim. I mean, parts of it are great, but I felt like it didn't resolve well.
Doing the audiobook thing while scrubbing potatoes. Harvest time is so much work! Starting Storm Front by Jim Butcher today

Don't judge this series by the first book. It gets much better as you keep reading books. Yes, there are some bad ones later on but overall this is one of my all time favorites.

I didn't finish the Aeronauts Windlass but am hopeful for this one, my friend said they're pretty clever books
I'm totally Malazan. I started the month with Gardens of the Moon and I'm currently reading House of Chains. In between, I picked some romance novels and of those, I particularly liked Entreat Me (dark fairytale after the beauty and the beast) and The Bird and the Sword (YA fairytale, simple and fresh). I've also read a novella, The Willful Princess and the Piebald Prince, which I would recommend to all of Robin Hobb's fans out there.
Just started Hammered, the third book in the Iron Druid series by Kevin Hearne. It's a light, fun series that works well as a filler while waiting for other books to become available.
