MountainKat | 31599 comments Let's reflect on the best and worst of the previous month's books.....

I know I can get so focused on what is next that I forget about all the wonderful books I read for the previous month's challenges! It is really easy to get distracted with the crazy hot weather that seems to be going around!

Did you find some gems? DNF a few? Find your new book boyfriend or a heroine who personifies TSTL? Come on, we all want to know! What were your standouts for July?

MountainKat | 31599 comments I read a lot of really good books in July - Creation in Death, MacRieve, Sweet Little Lies, The Countess Conspiracy and Sidebarred to name a few!

The only one that was just ok for me was Spellbound Falls and I think that was mostly the narrator. I'll give the series another chance because I've enjoyed the author in the past, but not right away.

I actually had one dud, started it in July and finished it today. Cowboy Heat is shelved repeatedly as erotic romance - so that is what I was expecting. Imagine my surprise when I ended up getting inspirational posing as erotic romance with the additional squick factor of weird names and euphemisms. It would have been better with the added sex and marketed as a sweet romance. Not for me, but it worked for a challenge so I finished it. =P

NayNay I read some really good books this month my favourites were -
A Place Beyond Courage (William Marshal, #1) by Elizabeth Chadwick The Time of Singing (William Marshal #4) (Bigod #1) by Elizabeth Chadwick The Outlaw Knight (FitzWarin, #2) by Elizabeth Chadwick The Widow's Walk by Robert Barclay

I did not read any bad books but there were two that I was expecting to like and they were just okay
Wreckage by Emily Bleeker Plain Jane by Laurien Gardner Bittersweet by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore

Connie N. | 1316 comments Didn't read as many books as usual this month--not sure why.

My favorites were:
Reunion in Death (In Death, #14) by J.D. Robb (of course)
Forgotten Sins (Sin Brothers, #1) by Rebecca Zanetti (a new-to-me series that I can't wait to continue)

I loved the audio version of: The Sound of Glass by Karen White (rated it 4.5 stars)

I was caught up in the excitement of Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning (also 4.5 stars)

And, as usual, I laughed through another Stephanie Plum adventure: Sizzling Sixteen (Stephanie Plum, #16) by Janet Evanovich

The one I was most disappointed with was: What We Find (Sullivan's Crossing, #1) by Robyn Carr - As a Virgin River fan, I was expecting more than an OK story with OK characters (rated it 3 stars).

MountainKat | 31599 comments The Sin Brothers series was really good! And of course, so are the In Death books!

Fran | 12278 comments My favorites of July were You Know Me Well by Nina LaCour , Highly Illogical Behavior by John Corey Whaley and Spencer Cohen, Book One (Spencer Cohen, #1) by N.R. Walker .

I had a bunch of others that I liked, and only one that I was disappointed with.

I didn't love 1982 Maneater (Love in the 80s #3) by Cambria Hebert . Lots of typos and grammatical errors that pulled me out of the story.

Amber | 715 comments July was a very slow month for me too.

I only read two and the were both good, but not great.

Beach Town by Mary Kay Andrews If You Only Knew by Kristan Higgins

Love that series! Glad to know the audio is good for when I'm in the mood for a re-read.
