July BOTM: And Then There Were None

Hello! It looks like I completely forgot to post the topic for our July BOTM! EEeek! Thanks for pointing that out Ravi! Anyway, here it is. I hope everyone is enjoying it so far! I am liking it, although I will admit that I have not read as much as I would like to have at this time but vacations are over and I'm somewhat back to my regular schedule so hopefully I can get caught up quick! Let us know what you think!

As Agatha christie rightly says it is very difficult to write 10 murders one after another without the murderer becoming obvious. The clever trick author pulled is that all the ten people had committed terrible crimes or at least accused of. But None of their crimes are proved or can be proven. Hence Every one in the ten people could be the murderer. The morality of actions is well illustrated. The professional mistakes conflicting with ethics was well described. Book is short and fast paced. Suspense is well maintained. Language is simple.

The transition of humans into animals at the verge of survival was well articulated. Even in the face of death the professional organisation is still maintained; The authority of judge over police and doctor diagnosis. It shows the human tendency for a societal structure. Beginning is little clumsy since it starts with introduction of ten characters one after other. But they meet at a place, then things take violent turn. This is my first book by Agatha christie. But from what I read and understood and heard from others this could be her Masterpiece.

Great review! Thank's for sharing! I am even more excited to finish it now than I was before. I'm still in the somewhat clumsy beginning so it'll be great to see it even out and get going at a better, more even pace. :)

I read this book during October last year. While i dont remember the names of who committed the murders, i remember generally what happened. Dont want to give anything away quite yet. Happy reading!

Finally finished last night. It's a different writing style than I'm normally used to so it did take a little bit for me to get with the flow of the story but I thought it was constructed well. It definitely kept you guessing because you would feel like you had it figured out but then you would doubt yourself and then be back at square one. I thought it was a good, fun little mystery!

I found the beginning a little tough to get through, since Christie throws so many characters and names at you in such a short period of time, but as soon as everyone arrives on Indian Island, things speed up quickly. Every character has dimension and a past of crime (though they didn't have to pay for it). I really like the concept of the victims being people who have committed crimes in their lives. It posts the question: are they really a victims? I can't wait to read more Agatha Christie novels.
