Book synopsis
Twenty-year-old Finley Montgomery is rarely alone. Visited by people whom others can’t see and haunted by prophetic dreams, she has never been able to control or understand the things that happen to her. When Finley’s abilities start to become too strong for her to handle – and even the roar of her motorcycle or another dazzling tattoo can’t drown out the voices – she turns to the only person she knows who can help her: her grandmother Eloise Montgomery, a renowned psychic living in The Hollows, New York.

Merri Gleason is a woman at the end of her tether after a ten-month-long search for her missing daughter, Abbey. With almost every hope exhausted, she resorts to hiring Jones Cooper, a detective who sometimes works with psychic Eloise Montgomery. Merri’s not a believer, but she’s just desperate enough to go down that road, praying that she’s not too late. Time, she knows, is running out.

As a harsh white winter moves into The Hollows, Finley and Eloise are drawn into the investigation, which proves to have much more at stake than even the fate of a missing girl. As Finley digs deeper into the town and its endless layers, she is forced to examine the past, even as she tries to look into the future. Only one thing is clear: The Hollows gets what it wants, no matter what.

I just yesterday got approved for this title as an ARC from NetGalley, and I'm so happy that it came in time. I echo Primadonna's question, when is the "official" starting date?

I think we can set up the buddy read however we want. Could we all start this Saturday? I should be able to start then.

I could do either a scheduled read or just list the chapters we read at the start of each post and hide spoilers. What would you guys like to do?

I personally almost always read a book in one day, or like one sitting especially when they are compelling and page-turning. I think that it should be very informal but we should hide all of those spoilers!

I like the idea of it being scheduled out, but I'm also fine with informal. And hiding spoilers is a must!

Let's just do informal then with hiding spoilers. I'm really sporadic with my reading lately. I could finish the book in a day, or it might take me 5 days if we are jammed packed with stuff to do. I went from reading around 15-18 books in the winter down to maybe 6-8 in the summer because we are doing way too much! This way no one will feel pressured with reading speed.

I'm so excited to start in a few days! I see it sitting on my self and just want to dive it, but I really want to finish my current book first.

Through the end of chapter 2

(view spoiler)[ I had put this on my TBR awhile ago, so I forgot what this book was about. I'm glad I forgot since it made the first chapter more suspenseful for me. It's been so long since I've read a thriller or suspense book. I'm really enjoying it! I'm itching to know why Abbey was taken? Why would someone shoot her Dad and brother and then just leave them there? Who was her dad talking to on the phone? At first I thought maybe he had a girlfriend, but now I'm thinking it might be something more connected to the shooting and kidnapping. I also like that this is going to be multiple POVs. Finley seems like an interesting character so far. It will be fun to see how all these characters will interact with each other. I hope I get a longer time frame to sit down and read because I can tell that this will be a hard book to read just in small chunks at a time! (hide spoiler)]

From chapter 3-end of 11

(view spoiler)[ This section was just kind of meh for me until the last chapter. For some reason I wasn't connecting with the story that much. Maybe too much family drama for me? It wasn't a shock that Wolf was cheating on his wife. I guess he was on the phone with Kristy when he was shot. Now we learn that this creepy old man grabbed Abbey and took her back to his home in the woods to be... what? Some kind of slave-servant? That's really weird. We still don't really know what is the whole point of her being kidnapped. It just feels like a story that I've already read so far. Things became a little more interesting to me when Finley had her vision in the woods and saw what had happened to Abbey. I'm curious to see if somehow Finely will be kidnapped, too. I think the scene in chapter one when Finley notices that an old landscaper is staring at her that the landscaper will turn out to be Poppa. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 12-end of 18.

(view spoiler)[ Now I'm wondering if the Penny we are reading about is really Abbey or will turn out being the missing Fitzpatrick girl. It's keeping me guessing! I'm enjoying everything about the mystery a lot more. The Finley-Rainer and Wolf-Merri personal drama drags the story down a little for me, but family drama stuff isn't something I generally enjoy reading about. Very curious about Jason and how he's going to connect with the girls disappearing. Could he be involved in some way? Something that seems a little too coincidental though is how all these people could go missing within the same area and yet the police haven't canvassed the area well enough to find them. I find that a little unbelievable. They wouldn't have thought about the mines and checked there already? They wouldn't have kept a closer eye on the people living in the hills? And I hope they explain more about the Hollows and why it seems to attract so many psychic people. (hide spoiler)]

Finished the book today at the beach. I have mixed thoughts but ended up giving it 3 stars. It's late at night and I'm tired here, so I will write a full non-spoiler review tommorow morning with all of my opinions. Happy Reading!
