Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Week 7 (Spot 51) Completion
The Infinite Sea (The 5th Wave, #2) by Rick Yancey
Task: Read a book with a male protagonist
How it fits: Male protagonist
Date read: 30/8
Rating: 3 stars

Review: This one was actually so boring. Nothing happened. The 5th Wave was so action-packed and adventurous, and then this was really boring. I do like the way Yancey swaps words around though, the way he plays with the language and uses lots of detail and adjectives. Keeps me thinking. I like the multiple POV, and also the way (view spoiler) I like how Ringer played such a big part in this, and so much of the book was from her position. I kind of didn't understand how and when (view spoiler) Also, I thought that (view spoiler) Also the fact that (view spoiler) which was really surprising!

Finished 8/31/16
4 Stars
1st in Series
Review:
I loved this book and am so glad I read it closer to the release of the next one in the series. I did this one on audio and it brought it all to life for me. Shahrzad was my fav character and I loved her throughout the book. I loved finding out more about Khalid and why he does what he does too. I cant wait to get to the next one and to see what happens next.

Elle Week 7
Spot 51
The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan 1st in series
Finished 9/1/16
Rating: ★★★

Review:
I read the first Percy Jackson book about a year ago and wasn't too excited about it. I was told that this series, Heroes of Olympus, while by the same author, was a 100 times better. Sadly, it felt like I was reading the same book. I really liked the characters Jason, Piper and Leo. They really made the story interesting. There were some scenes I really enjoyed and the way their different strengths complimented each other was enjoyable. However, the dialogue and the "out of the frying pan into the fire" was so redundant that I just lost interest. I wish I could say that it's because it's middle grade type reading but I loved Harry Potter and I adored Fablehaven and InkHeart and The Alchemyst series. I think Riordan is just not the author for me. It wasn't horrible but I have no interest in continuing the series.

Ive seen the movie befor i read the book which i rarely ever do and the book, as always, took the gold. The story itself is so creative and the characters are described so well that they jump off the page. Iv never seen or read any other book in the series but ifeel like i definitely will

Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1) by Stephanie Perkins
Rating: 5 Stars
Wow, I expected this book to be super cliche and no different from other YA books I've read lately, but I'm glad to say I was pleasantly surprised! I felt like the character development was done really well, it felt like the characters and interactions going on could have been real and all the implications with Annas friends were handled really well with her being able to patch things up. I would definately reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys YA romance-type books!

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Week 8 (Spot 60) Completion
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover
Task: Read a book from the standalone shelf
How it fits: Standalone shelf
Date read: 5/9/16
Rating: 5 stars

Review: Wooooow typical Colleen Hoover book :D Just amazing. About the first half was kind of meh, but then oh wow everything started happening at once! It was such an emotional serious read, and I feel like it would be really hard to read if you'd been in a violent relationship. But it was so worth the read. The end this time had me crying my eyes out. I really had no idea what to expect, had no idea which way Lily was going to go. At the start, I never expected her to (view spoiler) I couldn't believe (view spoiler)

Elle Week 8
Spot 60
Little Bee by Chris Cleave Standalone
Finished 9/6/16
Rating: ★★★★

Review:
OMG. This book shattered my heart into hundreds of little pieces. I am so glad I read this book. It is not a "fun" story but it is beautiful and sad and so real. Little Bee is a Nigerian girl who has escaped her country to the UK. She begins to tell her story from inside of a detention center where they hold illegal refugees. Sarah is a British journalist whose life crosses with Little Bees life while vacationing in Nigeria with her husband Andrew. The story of the three of them and their impact on each other's lives is so profound and beautiful and tragic. Great story.

Shallow Graves by Kali Wallace

How it fits: Starts with S

Review:
This book was different but in a good way. I loved the main character even though she was dead. The plot kept me hooked and I couldn't wait to figure out who was behind it all. The author keeps you in suspense the whole time and I really was guessing until the end.

Tallstar's Revenge (Warriors Super Edition #6) by Erin Hunter
6th in series
Rating: 3.5 stars

Review:
While the warriors series is super nostalgic to me since I've been reading it for a long time, this is probably my least favorite super edition. I really like the characters and how it gives a look into a different clan than the one the main series are written in and it does have a good message about forgiveness and going home. The story is also interesting but the beginning can be a bit slow. (view spoiler) Overall, even though it isnt my favorite it still was a good booo and I would definately reccomend it to anyone who reads the warriors series.

Elle Only if that particular one is on the Best Books Ever list.

message 247: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Wow Brenna I thought you said you'd be reading little books from now on so that you'd get them finished. Eragon is definitely not a little book, especially considering we only have around another 4 days to finish our books :/

The Temptation (The Secret Circle, #6) by L.J. Smith
Task: 6th in series
Pages: 277
Date read: 12/9/16
Rating: 4 stars

Review: This book was pretty good. I read it real fast, all in 1 day, and I only read for around 2.5 hours yesterday. So I was pretty pleased with that :) Plot-wise, the book was kind of boring, but these books definitely aren't masterpieces, so I got what I expected I suppose. Glad that I finally made it to the end of the series. Surprised that there actually weren't (view spoiler) And as usual Cassie just really annoyed me with the whole (view spoiler) I also really hate Scarlett how she (view spoiler) Glad that (view spoiler) That was really nice :) And I liked the old man too, Timothy Dent or whatever his name was.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments I'm doing a relisten of The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins for best books ever list. I'm halfway through will be done tomorrow.
