Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Oh awesome we can read another 1st in series? Am I allowed to have already started it? Or do I have to start another one?

Actually I'll probably use the Romance because I'm reading Cruel Crown tomorrow, so I don't have to worry about this one :)

Elle Week 3
Spot 19
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn (Standalone)
Finished 7/31/16
Rating: ★★★

Review:
Gillian Flynn is very clever. She has a sick imagination which will continue to make her stories sought after and remembered. The trouble I had with this story is that I really disliked all of the characters with the exception of Curry and his wife. I felt the same way with Gone Girl, but the difference was that I really couldn't figure out the plot as the story progressed. With Sharp Objects, it was little surprise who the killers were. The suspense was understanding the "why" which still didn't add much but it was still clever nonetheless. Overall, this was just a bit too disturbing for my taste. I have one more book from Gillian Flynn on my shelf and I will likely wait a bit before reading. Gillian Flynn certainly knows how to leave an impression. The three stars is mostly for recognizing her talent for "crazy". LOL

Cruel Crown (Red Queen, #0.1-#0.2) by Victoria Aveyard
Task: Read a romance book
How it fits: Tagged romance
Date read: 2/8/16
Rating: 4 stars

Review: Eh this one was alright. I started off really liking it, but the abruptness or Queen Song was really surprising. I wasn't that emotionally connected either. I'm glad I read it after Red Queen or it'd be rather confusing. I was surprised that (view spoiler) In Steel Scars, I quite liked the revelation that (view spoiler) One thing I didn't like was all of the Decoded messages. They were kind of confusing to follow. Glad I read these two though. Started Glass Sword already which is catching my attention :)

I havent read a fantasy novel that has sucked me in like this has. The plot is so good and patch's and nora's story is captivating. The villian was also not as predictable as some authors usualy are. I cant wait to continue this series and see where it takes me.

The Shadow Queen (Ravenspire, #1) by C.J. Redwine
Finished 8/4/16
4 Stars
1st in Series
Review:
I really liked this one and I am so here for all the fairy tale retellings that have been happening lately. I loved that this one was a spin on Snow White but a lot gritter than what you would expect. The characters were so well developed and this was a really great read. I cant wait to read the next one.

Review:
Overall, I didn't really enjoy the writing style of this book, especially in the beginning but I got used to it as I kept reading. I also didn't really like the ending, I felt like too much stuff was left unexplained (view spoiler) but I guess that's why there's a second book. I don't know if I'm going to read it though. I definitely wouldn't highly recommend it to someone when I've read better books recently but it was a nice easy summer read.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments Yes all reviews are in so we are good to roll tonight.

message 124: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Awesome :) And I can use my current read?

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments No you can't have started your book until the e

message 128: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Huh? So all books counted need to be started after the roll?

message 129: by Elle (new)

Elle Yes. That's the idea. :)

message 130: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Bummer alright. Hopefully the alternative isn't too hard to fill. Because The One is the only book I'm likely to get read next week. That or a novella. I'm not sure if novellas count. It's 120 pages. And that's assuming it fits the alternative. If not, I might need to put one of those down.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments Sorry I hit send too fast but yes Sha Is Correct Has To Be Started After The roll.

message 132: by Elle (new)

Elle We rolled a 10 which puts us on spot 29. 2nd in series, 9th in series or Title "T". Happy Reading!

message 133: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Oh yay! Title T works perfectly for The One :D Assuming I can count The?

And if only we'd rolled a, 11 or 12, then I could have counted The One anyway haha.

message 134: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments And that's assuming I get it finished in time. I need to.

Elle Week 4
Spot 29
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas (Title "T")
Finished 8/7/16
Rating: ★★★

Review:
I've had this book on my to-read shelf for a long time. I don't even recall who recommended it. While the book was fast-paced and somewhat entertaining, I know I need to be more selective with my YA choices. This book is about an assassin name Celaena who is rescued from a death camp to compete in a competition for the King. She is supposed to be this incredible, neck-breaking, spine-crushing, kill-you-blinded-folded-with-her-bare-hands kind of assassin who also happens to be just 18 years old. However, what threw me off was once she got to the castle, her demeanor was just so juvenile and prissy. It really didn't make any sense. I would have liked it better if she got to the castle and had to struggle with wearing dresses and frilly attire instead of lavishing in it and acting like a high-school girl constantly getting dressed for prom. On top of that, the "romance" just took over the story. I really wanted to learn more about her and focus more on the action and intrigue surrounding her skills. It was a good story, overall, but I'm not interested enough to continue with the series.

The Tattooed Heart (Messenger of Fear, #2) by Michael Grant
Task: Read a second in series
How it fits: Second in series
Date read: 10/8/16
Rating: 5 stars

Review: Yet another awesome book by Michael Grant :D One thing that did slightly disagree with me though was (view spoiler) I like the goryness of it, the realisticness and the detail. I also quite like the Master of the Game. He fascinates me, in a gross way. I also like the way they can delve deep into people and see their deep fears, and I also weirdly like how they put people through those fears in the hope that it will change their lives. I just really like the concept. Love this series.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments Mine will be done by tomorrow.

message 147: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Awesome. I really wanted to read The One today, but I've held off because it's 3rd in a series and it'll count for the next roll, so I'm letting down my fellow buddy readers :p

Once again Merit and Ethan and the group are back at it again. I loved Ethan in this one and how he really started to warm up more to Merit. This one has plenty of action and there was the introduction of a few new supes and I liked it. I cant wait to read the next one.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments Steph and Brenna how are yall looking for this week?
