Connie N. | 3773 comments Thanks for responding, JoAnne. I actually haven't had much luck with this feature on Amazon or Google, Sue. I usually just rely on the Kindle books that I read and search those books for the words I need. Otherwise, I never remember to keep an eye out for certain words when I'm reading a library book or listening to an audiobook. Word search challenges are tough.

Kat Are you going to do Tribute Challenges for Doris Day and/or Tim Conway. Loved them both.

Yes, we will but I need time to write them.

I found this Challenge last night!

I really enjoy the way this Challenge is more casual than some. I can choose my own tasks on My A to Z! I can read some Children's and YA books! There are no minimum page limits!

I like the way in which I am really competing against myself, here!

Thanks for keeping up the Challenges!

You're welcome!

message 106: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 316 comments For challenge tasks involving covers that are a specific color;
(example: from the winter countdown find 4 covers are one of the 5 color trends for winter 2019: Purple, Pistachio, Tiger Orange, Extroverted Pink and Vanilla Custard.)

Do we just make a good faith effort, or am I supposed to check it out at tineye?
Is it supposed to be greater than 50%

Never Courted, Suddenly Wed (Scandalous Seasons, #2) by Christi Caldwell - I'd like to use this for pink

Do I ask this type of general question here, but specific questions in the challenge thread?

Thanks!

As long as it looks good to you - mostly the color you choose. We are not that picky that you have to use a program to tell you the color. :)

You have not joined the 2.0 challenge, have you?

How far along are you in the original? Some of the tasks changed a bit. You can post your original in the 2.0 thread and continue it there.

message 113: by Susan A (last edited Mar 12, 2020 02:03PM) (new)

Susan A | 316 comments Two unrelated questions:

1. Is fan fiction allowed unless otherwise noted?
example: I Know Where Babies Come From, Derek

2. I noticed in many challenge directions:
*Please post a partial list of the challenge when you sign up.

I don't know what this means and I can't tell from other people's sign ups as it doesn't seem consistent.

Does this mean I should post an empty shell of the challenge? And if so, can I just post the whole shell and not part of it?

Or does it mean I shouldn't join until I can post some books I'm willing to read for the challenge -- meaning I can't just wing it?

I'll go back and fix the 3 challenges I joined based on your answer. THank you.

message 114: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 907 comments Susan, for signing up for challenges, you can post the empty shell, the title of the challenge and goal you're going for (if there's more than one option on that), or potential books for categories if you already have ideas. It's pretty flexible around here. :)

I'm not sure what fan fiction is - maybe continuing a story written by someone else? We have no page minimum - BUT there are a few of the older challenges that do have stated minimums. IF it's a book that you can link to here in GR, it's allowed in this group.

I wanted to avoid a lot of people just posting I'm in and then not coming back to the challenges. I cannot change what others posted in challenges before I became a mod 2 1/2 years ago. SO we just go with it. :)

I was wondering about a challenge that was a book for each state. It could take place in the state, have a state in the title or a title with the word of the nickname for the state.

I am in the middle of working on a huge challenge about the states. I had to stop working on it because of running the group but I'm hoping to get back to it in 2020.

That does not sound familiar to me. There was a task in Purge That Pile =
August
📚 Read a book that added to you WTR list (here on Goodreads) in August of any year.

Maybe you were thinking of that one??

I'm still not real familiar with many of the older challenges on here and I have been the main mod for 2 1/2 years.

Was it this one in the CCC, Sandy?

Celia Buell (semi hiatus) (celiareadsbooks) | 1191 comments One thing I'd like to see in addition to all the yearly A-Z challenges is an A-Z villain/antagonist challenge. I could see this working well. Personally I'm a sci-fi/fantasy lover so I read a lot of books with defined villains, but I think this could work for mystery/thriller (with spoilers if necessary), and even for some realistic fiction/romance if there is someone pushing back against something. Or it could even be villain/conflict A -Z to make it more widespread.

message 139: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina (brinamichelle91) | 277 comments There was a challange I liked in another group I was in that disbanded about 3 yrs ago. It was called the "Pick it for me" challange. Basically you would put down one of your book shelves that you would like others to pick from, for example- "Pick from my TBR list." You could also put down any other requests you would like such as 'Stand alone books only', 'No new series', 'author with an A in their name please'... Somebody else would then go through your selected shelf and pick the next book for you to read. This was done as a monthly challange usually, but other time spans would work too. :)

Daniel Hanson-Brown (dozerpup711) | 2717 comments I’m pretty sure I know the answer, but just looking for confirmation. If I read an anthology with multiple authors, can we use the Editor’s name as the “author name” for spell outs and such? Or how is that handled?

Yes, you can use the editor's name. When you search the title what author comes up? You can use that name, if you like.

message 143: by SANDYE (new)

SANDYE (sandye_c) | 1219 comments I had an idea for a challenge...my ideas are few and far between but I kind of liked this one. What do you all think?

A challenge based on numbers!!!!

Options: either have a number in title (either digit or word), or go by the number in a series (series #16, series #2), or maybe even based on the day it was published (June 28, December 25)

Levels: It could be broken down according to how long the challenge is; 30 with 3 levels, 100 with 4 levels, 10 with no levels. Many different ways to create levels for it.

It could be open ended if it's longer, or even set your own pace based on how many you want to do.
