I'd like to join these too. They've both been on my list for awhile now. I know I already own Licanius book one.

I'm also interested in the John Gwynne series. I read the original series and was just waiting for this one to be complete before starting.

Mel | 2360 comments You guys are doing Age of Death? I was planning on binge-reading the series leading up to Age of Empyre in May. Is there any interest in buddy reading the earlier books?

message 5008: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments I’m planning to do the same Melissa. I read the first book when it first came and definitely need a reread of it.

message 5009: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments I'd like a refresher too. That's why I haven't gotten to Age of Legend yet, as I need the refresher. Plus is that I have the first two on Audible already.

I read the first one last fall and plan on reading the others this year.

message 5013: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments Yay, glad to see others are looking to reread the series as well.
So, what kind of schedule would work for everyone?
Personally, I don't need to to read Age of Empyre the second it comes out, but I'm guessing others will want to do a buddy read then. So, looking to finish in May, what do you think of an accelerated schedule every couple weeks in March and April?

That works for me. I prefer accelerated schedules anyway. I don’t personally care about reading the last book on release either so if a different schedule works I’m up for anything.

Hi, Iain. Sorry, was pretty hectic so didn't really have time to check the group as often late last year. I still haven't read the second book, though it's still super expensive. So I don't really have a clear date yet when to continue. So, maybe once you've read the first book, we can set up the BR for the 2nd book.

Btw, guys, I'm planning to read the World of Five Gods series by Louis McMaster Bujold (The Curse of Chalion) around Jan 25, anybody interested in joining? One book per month.

message 5021: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) | 1229 comments Re-posting these dates for the people that were interested. I kinda forgot about it and just saw that no one had responded if these dates worked.

May 1st for Mistborn, and Maybe 15th for Priory of the Orange Tree?

message 5022: by Kathrine (new)

Kathrine | 1249 comments I'm gonna read the Witcher-series from Sword of Destiny and onwards to the main saga. Would anyone like to join me? I can see that the group already read The Last Wish recently but hasn't continued yet so maybe some of you would like to continue with me?

I might try continuing, at a slower listening speed, so I can enjoy it more... I didn't get much out of The Last Wish... it was near the beginning of my move from 2x speed to 2.5-3x speed, back in October...

I would love to join in on the The Priory of the Orange Tree! I'm gonna try and make it. That is an intimidating book though O.O May 15th works for me, is my birthday even ^~^

I'd be intereted in a reading of some of the Witcher series Kathrine. It just depends on when...I've read Blood of Elves thus far and that was an audio book. I think I struggled with focusing on all of the lore there ^^; But yeah, what days were you thinking? :D

message 5026: by Kathrine (new)

Kathrine | 1249 comments I was thinking of doing Sword of Destiny next week (maybe start on Monday?) and then continuing with the Saga as soon as possible. The Last Wish was a really fun and quick read for me so I'm itching to continue as soon as possible, but I'd rather read it with you guys so if that doesn't work for you, we'll push it back :D

I think that could work Kathrine. I was just looking where I can find the book ^^; I think they have some pdfs uploaded on scribd. But yeah, that seems like a good schedule to go by. The weekend of the 24th will be a bit busy for me, but I will read when I can :D

Sounds good Kathrine! I think I found the right one. We shall see once we begin the BR :D

@Timelord, I may look into "The Last Wish" as well, because I haven't read that one either ^^;

message 5031: by Kathrine (new)

Kathrine | 1249 comments Great! I'll request SoD and if you guys decide to read Wish first then I'll be happy to chime in with my thoughts because I just finished it three days ago xD And @Katie, I've heard people say that it's recommended to have read Wish first, so it might be a good idea to tick that one off if you have access to it – to me it was a really quick and fun read, especially as it's basically just a collection of short stories so there's no great plot to run tired in xD

We can re-use the old Last Wish thread, if you want... you want to do Last Wish soon?... we should do it before Sword of Destiny, which Kathrine was already looking to do next week...

These first 2 books are short story anthologies, before we get to the 5-6 full-length books

message 5033: by Katie (new)

Katie K | 2600 comments @ Kathrine & Timelord ~

Thanks guys! I actually just purchased "The Last Wish" on amazon...so we shall see how fast my prime delivers XP And we could definitely use the existing thread Timelord! I just have to find it first ^^;

So yeah you can start without me Timelord if you are raring to go. Otherwise I should get the book in 1-2 days :D

So the first one is a bunch of short stories? Oooh, fun!

No worries... I have like 6 other buddy reads to occupy me until Saturday... thread is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

We'll really be breathing life into that thread... I showed up 2 weeks late, and turned a dead BR into a 2 person BR for a few hours/days... and didn't say much...

Other problem is when people schedule BRs then don't show... or the series fizzles and the BRs stay on the list... I was kinda in Point Mode in October, trying to overtake Julia... it worked, but I did a TON of BRs, as a result...

Re:January... it's mostly about time management...

Work days, I get up and get ready for work, and start listening to audiobooks around 3:50am... I manage about 2hrs of audio between 4-7am, at work, usually... 7-9am I'm lucky to manage 30 minutes, most days, but 90 minutes on Sundays... 9am-12:30, I manage 3hrs on a good day, 30 minutes on a bad day (generally whether I'm working on a team or solo)... that's 3-6hrs of audio at work (at 3x speed, so 9-18hrs)...

Then I go home, and can manage another 3-6hrs, from 1pm to 8pm...

SO... on a bad day, I manage about 18hrs audio, and a good day, I manage 24-36+ hrs... that 500-1000 pages/day, generally... which my 850-925 pages/day average, so far, attests to...

The last week of October, I was doing closer to 48hrs...

Now that I'm tracking audio hours on the spreadsheet, you can get an idea what I'm managing... I rarely go to bed mid-book (usually it happens when I'm listening to a tome)...

Fantasy tomes definitely slow me down... but I want to read more this year, regardless... I also genre-hop like crazy, if you've been looking at my spreadsheet tab...

message 5039: by Katie (new)

Katie K | 2600 comments @Timelord
whoa! You've got a whole system going, don't you? That's awesome! So you do mostly audiobooks then? Which makes sense when one is one the go and such ^~^

Genre hopping is good though, keeps the reading fresh ^^
