Mika Hutton | 9 comments Hello, everyone!

With our due date rapidly approaching, I've been working on filling out Little Guy's library, and I'm looking for a book that I had as a young child. It might be my earliest memory, and is definitely my first memory of reading... I would have read it (or I should say begged my folks to read it a million times) in the late '80s and maybe very early '90s

The book is a children's picture book, full color spreads of fairly realistic illustrations. The text was simplistic, along the lines of "Where's the bunny?" "Where's the grasshopper?", but I recall always waiting for the page that asked "Where's the Bugaboo?", with the Bugaboo being depicted as two little eyes peeking out of a dark spot.

When I asked my mother if she recalled "The Bugaboo Book" she immediately and very confidently responded with, "Of course! Hide and Seek Bunny!"

After extensive searching, however, I think we must have the title at least a little bit wrong, because I can't find ANYTHING on it. It's definitely not the "Hide and Seek Bunnies" by Roger Priddy board book which has a bunny with a photoshopped tiara on the cover, and it's not "Hide and Seek Bunnies" by Fiona Watt. There were no flaps or textured parts or anything like that, just standard pages. It's also not "Runaway Bunny" by Margaret Wise Brown which came up frequently in my search.

I seem to recall a fairly large format book, with each page being maybe 8.5x11, hardcover with paper pages, but I could be woefully wrong on that. It's a VERY early memory. I'd love to have the book in any format at all, though.

If there's any other information that would be helpful, I'm happy to include whatever I can recall, or to enlist my mom's help with whatever she can recall.

Thank you all so much for any help you can offer!

Not quite. The book I'm thinking of had more realistic illustrations.

Mika Hutton | 9 comments Not sure how to mark this as solved, could a mod please help me with that?

We did find out what book it was, it's not Hide and Seek Bunny, but Hide-and-Seek Duck (Golden Naptime Tale) by Cyndy Szekeres !

Turns out, it's the bunny that's doing the hiding, but the duck gets the title. You'd think we'd remember the duck in leiderhosen, lol!

Anyway, thank you so much to everyone who helped!

Done. Glad you found your book, Mika.

FYI, for anyone who's wondering -- the original poster (OP) can mark their request as Solved by clicking Edit beside their topic header (subject line), but only on the desktop (not mobile) website.

Adele | 1438 comments I'm glad you found your book. FYI: I saw that book after you said my original suggestion was not it and the illustrations were more realistic. I was sure that I now had the right thing, but then I saw a reading of what I thought was the complete book on You Tube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnUnr... - and there was no bugaboo to be found! Looking back I saw I had found Hide-and-Seek Duck Golden Naptime Tale, which is what you have linked to above. This is a board book, NOT the original published in 1985. I'm sure you are right and you have found what you are searching for, but make sure you get the right version for your Little Guy. There might not be a bugaboo in the board book!

Adele | 1438 comments I just read what must be your Baby Center post about this book, where you explain about the bugaboo. You probably watched the same YouTube video I did! So just ignore my last message and enjoy your find. :-)
