Michelle Whaley | 5 comments I have been trying to find this book for years. Thought the title was something like "The Wrong Side of the Mountain", but that doesn't seem to be right. I probably read this story in the 70s or 80s. A boy (possibly Boy Scout) on a hike falls down the side of a mountain. He sustains a head injury during the fall. He realizes he fell down the "wrong" side of the mountain. He finds a stream and decides his best chance to find his way out is to follow the stream. Along the way, I seem to remember that he makes a fishhook out of a paper clip he has in his backpack. He loses the hook while trying to fish and has to go into the water to retrieve it. His head injury makes this difficult.

I don't remember a lot more about it except that it must have made an impression on me. Any help you can give is much appreciated. Thanks!

Michelle Whaley | 5 comments I'm not sure. That one sounds closer than any others I have found. Correct or not, it sounds worth reading. Thank you!

Zombieslayer⚡Alienhunter (theslayingisthunter) | 153 comments Could it be Summer I Was Lost? Book's original title was 'Terror on the Mountain', was published in the 70's, and mentions 'the wrong side of the mountain' several times in the description.

I read this when I was like ten so I'm fuzzy on details, but I kinda remember the boy being on a nature hike with a scout group or something.

Michelle Whaley | 5 comments I think that's the one! No wonder I couldn't find it by searching the word "mountain". They changed the name. Thank you so much!

Here's a quote from Summer I Was Lost by Philip Viereck using books.google.com -- "He was eating trout he caught on a paperclip, and making his way downstream."

Michelle Whaley | 5 comments I think I will need to read both - because they both sound like the right book. But hey - no complaints about more books to read! Thanks to all!
