message 213: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 3150 comments I love that movie so much, Letitia!

My biggest surprise / delight book was Still Life With Murder. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. It's been sitting on my iPad for a few years and I just hadn't gotten around to reading it.

I love that movie, too!! :-D

The only book I read for Wobble that I actually loved was A Court of Mist and Fury :-D
I read a few others that I really enjoyed though, so I had a few 4 star reads.
Some of these are: Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz An Evil Mind by Chris Carter Lead (Stage Dive, #3) by Kylie Scott

Ohhh, I love that movie too!

The best books I've read for Wobble so far are:
- The Sandman by Lars Kepler (a great crime novel set in Sweden that I couldn't put down)
- Snow Angels by James Thompson (another great Nordic crime novel, this one set in Finland)
- A Murder in Time by Julie McElwain (mystery with time travel)

The Sandman by Lars Kepler Snow Angels (Inspector Kari Vaara, #1) by James Thompson A Murder in Time by Julie McElwain

I love mysteries. I read mostly contemporary crime fiction, but I've recently started reading a bit of historical mysteries. Still Life With Murder looks very interesting!

Several on my team are reading A Court of Mist and Fury and so many people are loving that series right now - I see it everywhere :-)

I just added the Robert Hunter series to my tbr-list. I don't really need to start more crime series, but it looked like my type of series so I couldn't resist.

Have you tried The Nellie Bly series? They are historical mystries, that are based on a real person.

No, but I'll check them out too!

Maria Helena, your book list looks great. I'm going to look for A Murder in Time first.

I read some good romance too (I just preferred the mysteries...)

My favourites were:
- Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between (very cute young adult)
- Midnight Caller (romantic suspense, first in a trilogy)
- Fatal Frenzy (also romantic suspense, 9th in a great series)

Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between by Jennifer E. Smith Midnight Caller (Chasing Evil, #1) by Leslie Tentler Fatal Frenzy (Fatal, #9) by Marie Force

I read this book with Maria Helena and I loved it too! Definitely one of my favorites for Wobble. Julie McElwain has a promising future in writing ahead of her :). I also read A Court of Thorns and Roses and it was really great! I had never read Sarah J Maas before but she's a great author; I enjoy her plots and writing style. So far those are my two favorites.

Tara | 1259 comments I just read A Murder in Time as well! Finished it this morning! It's not one I'd typically read (I don't usually care much for Historical Fiction or Time Travel) but I picked it up as part of the Big Library Read and it was pretty good! Took me a while to read it (a lot of verbiage/text in it, and not much dialogue, so took me a lot longer) but I'm looking forward to how the series will continue!

The Big Library read is how Melanie and I came across it too :-)

I thought the first few chapters were a bit slow, but once I got into it I was absolutely hooked. I do enjoy books that are light on dialogue. I only occasionally read historical fiction and time travel, but I love mysteries.

Those are the only 2 of her's I've read, and I enjoyed them both.

It's my only 5 star read so far in Wobble, with the exception of a couple of re-reads.

I've also read The Ship of Brides and After You but I thought the other two were better.

I have only had 1 five star read during wobble, but I rarely give out five stars.

Now that we've covered best books - what was the worst book you've read for Wobble so far?

message 239: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Ruby Blue (Ruby Blue, #1) by Julie Cassar
Here's my review: Where to start? With the 20 pages of info dump? Or how about the fact that the action isn't even introduced until over 100 pages into the book? And then the dragon is dealt with in about 5 pages at the end of the book. And suddenly she has magic powers, so that we can have a sequel.

message 240: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Oh, wait, I also read: Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said by Philip K. Dick
This one was so weird. I'm still not entirely sure what happened. But I think a person this man had never meet took an experimental drug, and that caused all kinds of problems for this man, pulling him in to a splinter universe.

That title already sounds veeeery very odd o.o

message 242: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments I've been pretty lucky - haven't read any really, really bad ones (yet...) but 3 of the least good were:

1) Nowhere but Here by Katie McGarry (YA)
For some reason, I just could not get into the story and the characters felt very flat to me. The cover was better than the content.

2) Destroyer Angel: An Anna Pigeon Novel by Nevada Barr (mystery)
I've really liked some of the previous books from this series, but this one was pretty bad (borderline 1 star) with a bland and unbelievable plot and very one-dimensional characters. The fact that one of the characters is only referred to as "The Dude" says it all.

3) Season of Fear by Brian Freeman (mystery)
This was 448 pages of non-stop "I don't care". This sounded like a perfect book for me, but I just could not connect to it at all. There were too many characters, and I didn't really care for the writing style.

Nowhere but Here (Thunder Road, #1) by Katie McGarry Destroyer Angel An Anna Pigeon Novel (Anna Pigeon, #18) by Nevada Barr Season of Fear (Cab Bolton, #2) by Brian Freeman

'Flow my tears' is the first line of a poem. And a policeman quotes it twice. So . . .

It was. And the worst part? I picked it up to replace a book in the title relay that was only 100 pages. And the next day they said 100 pages was okay. At that point I was almost done, so I just went ahead and finished it. And found a spot for it. But I never would have read it, otherwise!

It does sound painful and not-relatable. But weird because I mostly saw 5 star reviews. Obviously the most popular reviews come up first, but still...

In the Heat by Ian Vasquez was my least favorite so far. Interesting writing style, it just didn't suck me in, so I skimmed the rest to finish on time for Battleship.

message 248: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments Normally, I would just have abandoned the 3 I listed, but since they were for Wobble I kept reading. Oh the wasted hours I'll never get back...

message 249: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 3150 comments It's a shame to hear that about the Anna Pigeon novel. I have read a lot of them and always enjoyed the mysteries. She must be losing her spark as the series winds on.

message 250: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments I've been pretty lucky, I 've not really had any bad ones, my least favourite was probably Diet Club Death (Missy DeMeanor Cozy Mystery #3) by Brianna Bates . It was odd enough to be enjoyable!
