I also have a few potential claims on that board, but Im trying to be good and restrain myself.

prag ♻ (janayanation) Yeah, I saw:) I'd had it for a month but never really got around to reading it, then today morning I saw you were reading it so I figured I might as well too. Plus the colour bonus! I didn't like part 1 too much, but after that the book got pretty great- are you liking it?

prag ♻ (janayanation) Have we finished the favorites/5star Milon boast? It's kind of a funny story (read by Bethany) could work, it's on my favorites shelf. Also vice versa IF she likes it as much as I did☺

I am liking it! I should probably stop reading books about depression though... I have depression and reading more about it doesn't always do good things for my brain.

Bety (betyplusbooks) | 211 comments "Carryover Milon/Omni bonuses Milon and Omni bonuses may carry over to Bingo. You may use them on any of the pattern rewards but only once per type of reward for carryover bonuses. "

So we may want to consider this, when planning. Could get a lot of points for long books this way...

message 3010: by Ray (user2637) (new)

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments I crunched some numbers for the different bingo patterns and got really interesting results. The patterns we have to choose from vary from 8-11 books (plus the "coverall" pattern, which takes 25 books).

If we get the minimum possible points for each square (12 and no power square bonus), then going for the Coverall pattern will get us the most points per book (including 15 pts for submitted pattern and 100 bonus pts). But if we manage to find the power squares and also read longer books, thus getting the maximum points for each square, then going for the Diamond Outline (8 squares/books required) will get us the most points per book. However, if we discount the Coverall pattern, Diamond Outline takes the lead for pts/book at minimum pts too. Math is weird.

The take-away? Leaning toward the patterns with fewer books req'd is slightly in our favor.

Then there's the prizes to consider...the "Tree" prize (Increase all undiscovered x2 power squares to x3 power squares) has a potential of adding 36-54 points, and the "Airplane" prize could add 12-18 but both only work if we find the hidden power squares.

Lots to think about here....

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Question: Do we only get to pick 1 pattern per card? Then, when we're done with the pattern, we get a new card?

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady | 596 comments Okay here is a question for Bingo.

If the square says read a book that starts with W (for example) you could use the book "The Walls Around Us" because you drop the "The" correct? Now if you wanted to use that book instead for the square that said Read a book with a 4 word title, does that count? or do you still have to drop the "The"? Just trying to get it straight so I can pick the correct books when the time comes.

Thanks!

Tammie | 4553 comments I think the picture just has to 'inspire' something. So Blueberries could be Blueberry Hill, or is there a series name with 'blueberry' in it... or perhaps a book with a baking theme??? When I put the word in to the 'search feature' I found 34 pages of books with 'blueberry' directly associated with the book. I think we can be creative from my understanding of the instructions. The hard part might be getting the book...Overdrive, free Kindle, Library, etc. I try not to purchase unless I have to.

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Typically with word games, hyphenated words count as 2. I shall be interested in seeing the official ruling on this.

Bethany wrote: "I also have a question about boggle:

message 3022: by Ray (user2637) (new)

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments It would count even if someone eats a blueberry muffin in the book, so I think it'll be okay. Plus that square is only needed in 3 of the 8 possible patterns, so we might not have to do that one.

With particular interest in Fairy and Tree, for October Daye related reasons. I guess this could also work for werewolf, since there is at least one guy who transforms between man and dog.

But really, I could do almost any of the squares if there were a need. Would just require a little creativity and library/bookstore hunting or bugging friends for books.

It doesn't have to be "about", it can just be connected to the picture. Not the word, but the picture. :) If you can sell it and there's some real connection there you have a good chance of it counting. Get creative! :D

I have an answer! :) Yes, once you submit a pattern you get a new card. But we can also finish squares that are not in the pattern for points.

...which makes the point calculus even more interesting! Bwahaha.

I got confirmation that the dropping of The/etc. is for letter purposes only. All words count when counting words.

...that last sentence is very nearly a palindrome. Woah.

message 3042: by Bety (new)

Bety (betyplusbooks) | 211 comments So I guess, for BINGO, if we claim a slot and finish but the board isn't submitted yet, we could probably read whatever and then try to fit it in somewhere later? Seems like there's enough flexibility in interpretations of pictures at least that most books would eventually fit in somewhere during the three weeks.

Thanks Bethany! I went through favorites (just in case) and found this. I definitely enjoyed it.

Seeing as we are nearing the end, I'm only pouring characters that relate to our word

N - Nessira

M - mercedes lackey

Not a lot of choices, but every little bit counts right? Lots of characters with K and J names...very unusual.

I might get another book in tomorrow because long flights. But is there anything we need?

Also, if I start a book tomorrow, but don't get it done it does count for bingo?

Also, I'm glad you liked it. I loved the idea of having a horse when I was younger and the idea of getting chosen by a magic horse was just the best thing ever. Considering this for a re-read at some point; one of those 'I remember loving it but only remember like 3 scenes in the whole series' things.
