Ashley | 1439 comments Event 1: Title Relay

Work as a team to Relay books to each other as you race towards the finish. Titles of books must have no fewer than 2 words. Work with your team to relay titles along from player to player.

Last word of 1st book must match 1st word of 2nd book.
Last word of 2nd book must match 1st word of 3rd book.
Last word of 3rd book must match 1st word of 4th book....

Examples:
Another Day / Day After Night / Night Heat / Heat It Up / Up Up Up

To mark Title Relay as √ COMPLETE:
--- Team must finish Heats 1 & 2 per rules to mark this event √ COMPLETE
To move on to NEXT Olympic Event:
--- Team must finish Heat 1 prior to beginning books for Event 2: Page Jumping

Title Relay Heats:
Heat 1:
leg 1: Title Relay of THREE books
leg 2: Title Relay of FIVE books
leg 3: Title Relay of SEVEN books

Heat 2:
leg 1: Title Relay of THREE books
leg 2: Title Relay of FIVE books
leg 3: Title Relay of SEVEN books

Heat 3: (Bonus Round)
Title Relay of FIFTEEN books

Heat 4: (Bonus Round)
Title Relay of TWENTY books

Title Relay Points
Heat 1: 5 points per book, bonus 10 points upon completion (of full heat)
Heat 2: 5 points per book, bonus 15 points upon completion (of full heat)
Heat 3: 10 points per book, bonus 25 points upon completion
Heat 4: 10 points per book, bonus 50 points upon completion

Rules of Title Relay:

Follows General Rules of Wobble Event
▲ Heat 1 must be completed prior to moving on to Event 2: Page Jumping
No books may be STARTED for any other Olympic Event until Heat 1 of Title Relay is COMPLETED!
▲ Heat 2 must also be completed to consider Event 1: Title Relay √ COMPLETE
▲ If any Olympics game is not considered √ COMPLETE, then teams may not work on any BONUS Rounds
▲ Heats 3 & 4 are BONUS ROUNDS and may only be started after all other Olympic Events (1-5, all parts to "complete" tasks) are COMPLETE.
Heat 3 OR 4 OR both may be attempted. Points for bonus rounds only valid after 10 books
▲ Books for all 3 legs of Heats 1 & 2 may be started/read at the same times.
You should not wait for a leg to be completed before starting the next.
ALL Members MUST read at least 1 book in Heat 1 OR 2.
Book 1 of required 3 books for Olympic 3 week event
▲ One member PER Leg maximum for Heat 1.
One member may read for each Leg of Heat 1, but only once per leg.
At minimum, 7 members may read for Heat 1
▲ Any number of members may read for Heat 2 (and Bonuses) as long as ALL members have read at least 1 book.
▲ Members, however, CANNOT relay back to back, at minimum they must read every other book.
▲ Can NOT exclude A, And, The. Titles starting with A, And, The can only be used if the previous book ended with A, And or The.
▲ Word MUST be exact (no adding of plurals, or be "part" of a different word).
▲ Each leg of the heat starts new and should begin with a NEW relay word.
Do not start the 2nd leg with the word that ends the 1st leg.
▲ Books do NOT need to be read in order, but you only get points for books in order.

For example, If you are trying to read a 5 book relay of: Another Day / Day After Night / Night Heat / Heat it Up / Up Up Up and you do not read "Night Heat" by the end of the Olympics round (July 21st) then your team will only receive 10 points for the first 2 books read, and no points for reading Heat it Up or Up Up Up, and nothing for the 7 book relay.

Lots of planning to be done for the relay! If you have a shelf with what you can read next can you please post it.

My shelf is; Next

These are all the books that I have available and can pick up at immediately and read - am I dying to read them all right now? No...the point is that I can read them. (No waiting on the library etc.).

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I suggest we use the READ BOOKS thread starting Olympics. We are getting chattier and it would be more organized.

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 616 comments I'm going to try and finish And I Darken on my computer and I'll put together a Next list later (which will be pretty much whatever I own in paperback).
message 910: by kat (wanderfulbooks) (last edited Jul 01, 2016 04:53AM) (new)
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments We put up a spreadsheet for Olympics to keep track of stuff (reason to just chat lol) and everybody has access/can edit. Just PM me your emails :) Nikk and I have chatted up a storm already ;) There's chat there! lol of course we talked about real priorities in life aka checking Goodreads first thing in the morning.
I feel like when I'm awake everybody else is asleep.
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Karishma, my bookstagram account is @wanderful.books
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Oh boy. Putting up a next list would take me ages (sheepishly hides face). I have a tendency of buying books faster than I read them. Then there's the matter of living right next to a cousin who's worse than I am. Buys from Book Outlet every freaking month. So yes, I prolly have that book. But I will try to put up one. *readies self*
Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut  (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I have made a July TBR list here of books I plan on reading July for challenges, review etc however as some of those won't be available till later in the month I will almost make a next shelf shortly moving those currently avialble across pus other stuff on my shelves at home or in my kindle/ibooks
Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut  (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments made a shelf with available books I can read here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
I will go through my shelf when I get home tonight and throughout the afternoon as I think of them adding books to it :-)
Also gonna try and finish Sharp Objects before the battleship timer runs out and if I do then I will try squeeze in Cruel Crown as it is a short read but has the minimum page requirement :-)
actually does anyone have a book ending with the word cruel as it would make a perfect relay leg book :-P
message 918: by Ashley (new)
Ashley | 1439 comments My email is; ashley.butters1@gmail.com.
Just a reminder for the relay that you cannot read books back to back and you cannot read more than one book per leg in Heat 1. Ie. 3 books maximum in Heat 1.
I would suggest that our quicker readers focus on multiple books in Heat 1. Noa, Gillian, Kathleen & Karishma I'm looking at you! It may be beneficial for you ladies to sort out Leg 1 and/or Leg 2 solely between you?
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments i could only think of books starting with cruel. crown seems to be a common word too.
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Ashley i read somewhere that one member has a maximum of reading one leg straight? but i think this can be done only after we have unlocked all events.
yup, we can do that. lemme scour my shelf tonight after i settle in. this app should let us do more!
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments i think rules say we need minimum of 7 members to read for leg 1 and 2 of event 1 heat 1?
Nope: "▲ Members, however, CANNOT relay back to back, at minimum they must read every other book."
Ashley | 1439 comments Kathleen wrote: "i think rules say we need minimum of 7 members to read for leg 1 and 2 of event 1 heat 1?"
The whole of Heat 1 is 7 people minimum (Leg 1, 2 and 3)
"▲ One member PER Leg maximum for Heat 1.
One member may read for each Leg of Heat 1, but only once per leg.
At minimum, 7 members may read for Heat 1"
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I think for Event 1, it's strategically sound to read books with lesser pages as page count don't have bearing on points (unlike in Event 3 where we will need to consider page count). Also it will be faster for readers to complete the legs. Maybe just for the 1st round so we can unlock the other events and start working on them.
kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I dont get this.
One member PER Leg maximum for Heat 1.
One member may read for each Leg of Heat 1, but only once per leg.
At minimum, 7 members may read for Heat 1
I havent read the Q and As will prolly go red it tonight.
Olympics is a bloodbath.
Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut  (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I will check through my shorter books and some of my free e-books cos they will probably be shorter and pop them in either the spread sheet or my anext folder if I think they might work
message 927: by Rebecca (new)
Rebecca (rebeccaemma) | 85 comments Heyyyy girls! Sorry I've been MIA... It's taken me a good 30 minutes to catch up on all the chat!
I've finished Anne of Green Gables
date: 1/07/2016
Fits task: B2
How it fits: main location as Canada
I'm about 80 pages off An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination for task A9 (Read a book where the first word of the title is An.) I will be finished that tonight but will confirm when I'm done :) :)
I've got to say this next task is SUPER confusing. I have a USB with over 10,000 books on it that I acquired through my real-life book club. I also have access to 3 different cities libraries digital catalogue (plus it's the weekend and I can go in person too) And I have an audible membership with at least 6 credits. And I have a Scribd membership.
What I'm trying to say is: If you have a word you're stuck on, I'm happy to fill it because I have a lot of books on hand. Rather than list all of what I can read, if you give me the word I can present a few options.
Hope that makes sense!!!
message 928: by Skandia (new)
Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments I have a very large kindle book collection, too. I think I can pick up a word if needed to fill some title chain.
For the first legs - shorter books would be great, that way we could unlock next rounds. BTW - is the min page requirement still 100?
I do not have any book for the word 'Cruel' but have a book for 'Crown' - Crown in Candlelight . But someone has to find a book for Candlelight to work the sequence.
message 930: by Elspeth (new)
Elspeth | 101 comments Ooh, combining my love of organisation and spreadsheets with reading! I might not get any actual work done this month :)
I'm in the same boat as Rebecca and Skandia. I'll start putting together a shelf of available books but could stretch outside of it if needed.
I'm working on The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There, shelved as fantasy and young adult and the audio is narrated by a female. Should have it done today!
It's not "One member PER Leg maximum for Heat 1"
Each member can only read once PER Leg for Heat 1
I'm having a look at your shelf now
message 936: by Rebecca (new)
Rebecca (rebeccaemma) | 85 comments argh, this requires some serious juggling!
Okay Ash, trying to pick books of mine with common words
You: Dear John
Me: John Dies at the End
Me: The Heiress of Water: A Novel
You: Water for Elephants
Me: Elephants Can Remember
Either "End" or "Remember" should be easy-ish to find matching words?
message 937: by Ange (new)
Ange (bentleyrise) | 484 comments Sigh *shoulders relax*, kids are fed, Ive changed outta my heels and work clothes and have my jammies on, I have a wine and its the weekeend yay.
I also have a gazillion books that I own so can try and fit in with other people. Yes I too am a book hoarder.
My own shelf is here books I own
I dont have a book ending in Cruel though.
Strategy wise I think the suggestions to post our books read on the other thread would help Ashley and Kat organise a bit better and also reading shorter books rather than big tomes for this first challenge.
Im happy to start in whatever heat suits.
WOW!!! 2894!? You've made me realise that I'm not a book hoarder at all hehe.
Actually my preference is for books to be posted on this thread too and to not use the other one. There are a lot of background threads for captains so one less thread that I have to keep an eye on is good for me :)
