I've finished The War of the Worlds by HG Wells in honour of David Bowie and am half way through An Idiot Abroad. Just went to visit India (hilarious) - Mexico's next.I started A Morbid Taste for Bones on the bus this morning - a mediaeval murder mystery, which sounds fascinating, but has been sitting on my Kindle for ages..

I found the book completely by accident and know nothing about the series. Having read the first few pages, i think I'm going to enjoy it.
Glad to hear you're reading one too. The books mustn't be as obscure as I thought!
I have heard of the Brother Cadfael series too, Annerlee. Never read any of them though. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think.
Lisa wrote: "I have heard of the Brother Cadfael series too, Annerlee. Never read any of them though. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think."I'll let you know : )
Annerlee wrote: "...I found the book completely by accident and know nothing about the series... ...."I became familiar with Brother Cadfael through a BBC mystery television series starring Derek Jacobi, a well known British actor.
The books are easy comfy reads, and there are so many of them that you can practically find one to fit any YLTO! challenge!☺
Lisa wrote: "Almeta, I hope you enjoyed The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender?"I really did enjoy it Lisa. I still have to go to the Group Read thread to talk about it. (After the Toppler.)

It was a toss between a Brother Cadfael and a Crowner John mystery e.g. (The Sanctuary Seeker. I've not read any of that series either, but they are both mediaeval murder mysteries and possibly similar..?
Have you read any Crowner John? I was thinking of reading one for the Doctor Doctor challenge, seeing he's the 'equivalent' of a modern day cororner (A mediaeval Quincy?) Might even squeeze one in this week- they're short too
Annerlee wrote: "...Have you read any Crowner John? t ..."Curses!@*!% I have not!
Another interesting series to add.

I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I'm looking forward to what you have to say about it.
Oh no, I just added Crowner John to my TBR (sigh). So much for reducing it by participating in the toppler... It's always the same...
I have Brother Cadfael (BBC series is great, Almeta!) on my TBR and NOW I'm adding Crowner John. Oh dear, I'm with you on this Alexandra!
How's everyone doing. I'm at work... a long day, 10-8. Won't get much reading until my hour lunch and a bit after work before I conk out!
I have also added Crowner John to my TBR.If anyone wants more books to add to their TBR, the book I'm currently reading, The Queen's Man, is really good and it's the first in a 4 book series of medieval mysteries.
Debra wrote: "How's everyone doing. I'm at work... a long day, 10-8. Won't get much reading until my hour lunch and a bit after work before I conk out!"Debra, I have read 60% of my third book. I should get a bit more reading done this evening before bed and I'm hoping to get it finished tomorrow.
I finished my 3rd book and am going to start a Miss Marple mystery The Body in the Library because that is what I brought to work with me. I left my Nook in the car, I think.
ANOTHER series added thanks to Lisa!I was doing well reading at lunch until my son called me and talked my ear off for nearly an hour! sigh....
Debra wrote: "ANOTHER series added thanks to Lisa!"Lol, I just thought you could use a few more books on your TBR, Debra! ;)

Amy does this to me sometimes, just before I leave work to go home. All I want to do is get off the phone and go home and read. Kids - huh?
Lisa wrote: "I have also added Crowner John to my TBR.If anyone wants more books to add to their TBR, the book I'm currently reading, The Queen's Man, is really good and it's the first in a 4 ..."
Yes, I added it, as well as the other. :)
Hi Everyone!Glad to see everyone doing so well. I am still on my 2nd book (The Language of Flowers ) about 1/2 way through. I'm like you Debra; can only squeeze in a bit after work it seems. I like the book, but it's definitely not a happy read, for the most part. I am also starting to read Life Itself as a breather between reading the first book read. It's an autobiography by Roger Ebert, the hollywood movie critic. It's interesting & he mentions my home city Toronto in it and our Toronto Film Festival.
Sleep well, ya all; happy reading tomorrow :-)
Good morning, I've just finished my third book - Le Montespan. It was just gross and definitely not my cup of tea. Now I'm looking forward to gophering for my next read.
Morning everyone!!I've managed a third of my Brother Cadfael book and half of my 'bedtime read'....
I hope to finish them both soon, but might need to go shopping in my lunch hour and am getting a lift home, so can't read on the bus either (drat and double drat)

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your book, Alexandra. I think I might leave that one off my TBR ;)

Well, I can not recommend it. There was one review saying it was borderline pornographic but not in a sexy way, lots of talking about feces and necrophilia - I think that nails it pretty much.
The naive part of me thought it would be an amusing story playing at the times of Louis XIV. Oh well...
I read Never Lie to a Lady, a romance for Glenn Frey – founding member of the Eagles along with a solo career. The Best of My Love - Read a romance
I have just finished The Queen's Man. I gave it 4 stars. It was very enjoyable and had some intriguing and likeable characters. The ending didn't really work for me but it did set things up nicely for the next book in the series.I will start on my fourth book later.
Perla starts out really good and I will finish it, but I've decided to switch to a shorter book, The Alchemist for Phil Rickman, fantasy.
Debra wrote: "Perla starts out really good and I will finish it, but I've decided to switch to a shorter book, The Alchemist for Phil Rickman, fantasy."I really enjoyed the Alchemist. It's told in quite a simple way and yet, if you can suspend disbelief and go with the fairy tale magical realism aspect, it's quite powerful.
I have made a start on my fourth book, A Single Man. I didn't get as far through as I hoped because a pretty nasty headache decided to develop! :(I am going to sign off for the day and head off to bed.
Goodnight everyone! Happy reading!

And if you listen to the audio book narrated by Jeremy Irons, you will want to listen all over again as soon as you get to the end. At least, I did!
I am half way through The Body in the Library. I hope to finish it tonight, but my right eye is giving me grief today. I guess I did not get enough sleep last night. It is blury and my eyelid keeps twitching. I hate that!I love the cat reading Military Strategy, Lisa! I hope your headache gets better soon.
