I've finished The War of the Worlds by HG Wells in honour of David Bowie and am half way through An Idiot Abroad. Just went to visit India (hilarious) - Mexico's next.

I started A Morbid Taste for Bones on the bus this morning - a mediaeval murder mystery, which sounds fascinating, but has been sitting on my Kindle for ages..

I found the book completely by accident and know nothing about the series. Having read the first few pages, i think I'm going to enjoy it.

I became familiar with Brother Cadfael through a BBC mystery television series starring Derek Jacobi, a well known British actor.

The books are easy comfy reads, and there are so many of them that you can practically find one to fit any YLTO! challenge!☺

It was a toss between a Brother Cadfael and a Crowner John mystery e.g. (The Sanctuary Seeker. I've not read any of that series either, but they are both mediaeval murder mysteries and possibly similar..?

Have you read any Crowner John? I was thinking of reading one for the Doctor Doctor challenge, seeing he's the 'equivalent' of a modern day cororner (A mediaeval Quincy?) Might even squeeze one in this week- they're short too

Hi Everyone!

Glad to see everyone doing so well. I am still on my 2nd book (The Language of Flowers ) about 1/2 way through. I'm like you Debra; can only squeeze in a bit after work it seems. I like the book, but it's definitely not a happy read, for the most part. I am also starting to read Life Itself as a breather between reading the first book read. It's an autobiography by Roger Ebert, the hollywood movie critic. It's interesting & he mentions my home city Toronto in it and our Toronto Film Festival.

Well, I can not recommend it. There was one review saying it was borderline pornographic but not in a sexy way, lots of talking about feces and necrophilia - I think that nails it pretty much.
The naive part of me thought it would be an amusing story playing at the times of Louis XIV. Oh well...

I have just finished The Queen's Man. I gave it 4 stars. It was very enjoyable and had some intriguing and likeable characters. The ending didn't really work for me but it did set things up nicely for the next book in the series.

I will start on my fourth book later.

Perla starts out really good and I will finish it, but I've decided to switch to a shorter book, The Alchemist for Phil Rickman, fantasy.

I really enjoyed the Alchemist. It's told in quite a simple way and yet, if you can suspend disbelief and go with the fairy tale magical realism aspect, it's quite powerful.
