Zach In the book Legend by Marie Lu, the United States is in a post apocalyptic dystopian reality. It is split in two right down the middle between the Colonies and the Republic. The Republic is a military ruled totalitarian government. Every year, they host "the trials", a way for the Republic to assess and determine jobs for people. June is the only person to ever score a perfect 1500 on the trials, consequently she is sent to college to learn about the military. She is then selected to be a detective in the Republic to find the most wanted criminal in the Republic, Day.

Day has grown up in the poor sectors of Los Angeles in the Republic, wanting to just get noticed and be successful, to help his family. Day was told he failed his trial and was experimented on by the Republic along with the rest of the "failures". Day escapes and becomes a criminal, plotting to overthrow the Republic. Then one day he finds out his brother has contracted the plague, a deadly virus spreading throughout the Republic. Day tries to get the cure from the LA hospital and fails, but he does get suppressants. As he escapes he ends up killing June's brother, Metias. June is sent to catch Day, and is on the path to finding the Republic's most wanted criminal.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes a book similar to The Hunger Games. It had a lot of action and flowed very well. I read this book in a weekend and couldn't put it down the whole time.
