Yep, next week works fine for me...I'll mark it down on my monthly reading list for Monday the 6th, if that's ok with you?

(It might be especially disappointing because I can't help but compare it to Flex, which is a quite different books, but toys with somewhat similar magic systems - there is a videogamemancer, for instance. And it's a great book...!)
However, it reads fast, so I don't mind finishing it and then deciding about the rest of the series.

The geek references were just awesome, though! Being a self proclaimed geek, I grinned, chuckled, laughed or cheered every time something I recognized came out.
I think I might stay in for the second book, at least. Reviews are saying it is much better than the first one.
(And I've never heard of Flex, but if you're saying it's great and comparing this book to it, I definitely need to check it out!)

Eww, I hate migraines! I suffer from them as well, so I totally understand not being able to read! I'm glad you're feeling better now!
I agree, it was mostly boring in the middle, and I really had to force myself to keep going!

Well, I finished this, and then promptly forgot about it, hence the time it took to get back to this thread. :p I will have a look at Celebromancy, just to see if the first chapter or so manages to hook me.
I love fiction that heavily features geek culture/references/tropes, but it does need to do a little more than just... list names of comic books and tv-shows as it plods along.
How did you feel about the characters? I was sort of convinced, or even hopeful, that Drake would turn out to be an antagonist - just to add some interest.

I love geeky type books too! That being said, this felt like it was just throwing geek references in there because it could. It got old, quick.
I kept hoping Ree would wind up apprenticing under Drake, or even falling for him! I really liked him as a character, he kept me thinking of steampunk, and the book needed him. Ree was slightly clueless, even after things were explained to her. Made me think of a ditzy blonde, and I hated her for it. I also hated Underwood, though we might have been meant to. I really don't want him to mentor Ree, especially in light of Ree's mother's relationship with him.
