Julie M (woolyjooly) | 314 comments Just began The Collapse: The Accidental Opening of the Berlin Wall. A nonfiction read for my local book group. Surprising and intriguing so far!

message 53: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ I finished How Does It Feel to Be a Problem? Being Young and Arab in America by Moustafa Bayoumi How Does It Feel to Be a Problem?: Being Young and Arab in America which I found completely enlightening.

I just started Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor Lagoon.

Lisa O'Rourke | 13 comments I have just finished 'Fever at Dawn' by Peter Gardos...a flawless journey in love and what it takes to survive. Just starting 'The Odd Woman and the City' by Vivian Gornick...quietly hopeful.

message 55: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Jones (mindyrecycles) I read Billy Budd, Sailor by Herman Melville for my book club. Really good, I'm excited for our discussion on Wednesday.

I was in France and read some travel books; still reading Louvre, Pocket Guide by Thomas Schlesser .

I also read Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer and really enjoyed it. Fairy tale retellings aren't usually my thing but I started the Lunar Chronicles for a group read in one of my GR groups, and was surprised to find it so entertaining and now I want to read the whole series.

I'm listening to The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton and it's fabulous.

Next up Wonder by R.J. Palacio . It will satisfy the middle grade requirement for the Read Harder challenge I'm in...plus I just want to read it. :-)

Hannah | 63 comments Wonder is great!

Britany | 814 comments Finished Siracusa by Delia Ephron by Delia Ephron-- 4 Stars.

Two couples vacation to Siracusa Italy and madness ensues. A character study with people I loved to hate. Really enjoyed this one.

Leanne | 4 comments I strayed from my To-Read list a little bit and read 84, Charing Cross Road this weekend and am almost finished with The Nest.

Tonight, after some required reading for an insurance course, I'm going to crack open The Complete Persepolis to try to finish it up for the Goodreads book club with Emma Watson!

message 59: by Sue (new)

Sue | 415 comments I'm just starting The Nest on audio after finishing Kitchens of the Great Midwest, which I enjoyed a lot more than I expected to.

Jennifer Ryan | 4 comments Janet wrote: "Just downloaded The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen and reading Blindness by José Saramago from the library"

I loved Blindness. I hope you are too.

message 61: by Kate (new)

Kate | 270 comments I have had a crazy, busy time since Booktopia. I am still reading War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy , War and Peace. I finished Girl Waits with Gun (Kopp Sisters, #1) by Amy Stewart , Girl Waits with Gun as well as The Mirror Thief by Martin Seay , The Mirror Thief. I enjoyed both of those immensely. I am now deeply into The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney , The Nest which is a great summer book, one of those where you stop doing what you are supposed to be doing, just to get back to it. Thanks, Ann Kingman, for the suggestion!

message 62: by Britany (new)

Britany | 814 comments Finished Where We Belong by Emily Giffin by Emily Giffin- 3.5 Stars.

Two narrators telling a story alternating chapters. Light and perfectly enjoyable for the summer.

Kimberly (epkimberly) | 1 comments Just finished The Sound of Gravel The Sound of Gravel by Ruth Wariner , which was amazing! I have honestly never read a memoir about polygamy life, but this one had such insanely good reviews that I couldn't pass it up. Ruthie's story was so heartbreaking and brutally honest. 5 star read!

Right now, I've started It's Kind of a Funny Story It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini . I love the film, and have had the novel on my TBR for quite a while.

message 64: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ Kimberly,

I loved the movie for It's Kind of a Funny Story. The scene with "Under Pressure" is the best.

The book is pretty close to the film.

Thank heavens for the last couple of books I've read in June.
Both were excellent. Including links to my comments.

The Hummingbird

A Man Called Ove
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

These both redeemed a month of reading I could have easily been called mediocre.

Britany | 814 comments Finished Hidden Bodies (You, #2) by Caroline Kepnes by Caroline Kepnes-- 3.5 Stars.

Joe's back and this time he's not leaving anything behind. Crazy situations, murder, drugs, and explicit language. I devoured it guiltily and greedily.
